Cor! There's some corkers on there, though not sure how Jazz Funk-y Dinosaur L's "Go Bang" is.

Jazz Funk is great. If I'd been around in the mid 70s, I'd definitely be into JF rather than rubbish old punk.

Hilltop Meggie 16-11-2007 12:09 PM

Southern Freeze - Freeze, one of those goosebump intros. Happy days.

Well lets praise the Lord you weren't around in those heady days then eh?

As ever, your post makes no sense.

Still thriving at The Grey Lady, Tunbridge Wells.
Fat Freddie's Cat, Hard Lines & Over The Edge the best groups to see :)

A friend of mine used to be into a band called Spiro-Giro ? Not sure if the spelling is right but they where quite jolly.

Spyro Gyra (I had to look it up). "Shaker Song" is the only thing of theirs I know but it's ace.

weltklasse is an oaf.

Blimey never thought I would ever see a thread on jazz funk. However, for those that were in the 80's the best music and before it hit the mainstream those lucky enough to listen to Invicta, JFM... and partied at the alldayers, Cats Whiskers the music was the nuts.

A selection of musicians to listent to if you dont understand - Roy Ayers, Lonnie Liston Smith, Ronnie Laws, The Blackbyrds, Donald Byrd and the great thing there was a British scene with the likes of Atmosfear, Freeez, Centra Line & even Level 42 before they went commercial.

The music was awesome :) :) :)

WCB fails to realise that punk was also involved in the growth of reggae listening in the UK. He is rubbish.

I am fully aware of that crossover (Don Letts and all that). I'm not sure how me preferring Jazz Funk to punk has any relevance to this though. (I am a bit rubbish though).

This is good, too:

A1 Mezzoforte - Garden Party
A2 Lonnie Liston Smith - Space Princess
A3 George Duke - Brazilian Love Affair
A4 Azymuth - Jazz Carnival
A5 Tom Browne - Funkin' For Jamaica (N.Y.)
A6 Shakatak - Invitations
A7 Bobby M - Let's Stay Together
A8 Herbie Hancock - I Thought It Was You
A9 Quincy Jones - Stuff Like That
B1 Weather Report - Birdland
B2 Spyro Gyra - Morning Dance
B3 Bob James - Sign Of The Times
B4 Rodney Franklin - The Groove
B5 Stanley Clarke - Together Again
B6 Level 42 - The Chinese Way
B7 Brothers Johnson - Stomp
B8 Harvey Mason - What's Going On
B9 Mezzoforte - Rockall

MikeyDread 16-11-2007 12:32 PM

Expansions is an an anthem - whilst there are several versions on Always There - all pretty awesome from Willie Bobo (my fave) to Side Effects...

Need a party now.
