Saints fan on talksport pointed out how awful they have been this season. Not only have they only won 5 games in the league this season (1 in the last 21 games) but every single victory has been over teams who were in the bottom 3 at the time. Their dreadful run extends even further than that and since December 2016 (ie their last 55 league matches) the only teams they have beaten in the league are Middlesbrough, Sunderland, Palace, West Brom, West Ham and Everton. There’s more chance of Saints finishing bottom than of catching us...

although of course we weren’t in the bottom 3 as Southampton lost and got zero points. Live league tables aren’t real league tables...

The comeback win at St.Marys felt pivotal on the night and it's now proving to be so. Reverse that result and we'd be in the bottom 3.

I hope Watford show the same amount of commitment and application to us as Spurs and Leicester have managed this week.

Burnley are still going for a Europa League place so I think they'd want to win on Sunday.

Catching up with the big picture

Huddersfield - 35 points (-27 GD), 12 remaining

Home - Everton, Arsenal
Away - Chelsea, Man City

Palace - 34 points (-18 GD), 12 remaining

Home - Leicester, West Brom
Away - Watford, Stoke

Swansea - 33 points (-19 GD), 15 remaining

Home - Chelsea, Stoke, Southampton
Away - Man City, Bournemouth

Southampton - 29 points (-20 GD), 12 remaining

Home - Bournemouth, Man City
Away - Everton, Swansea

Stoke - 28 points (-33 GD), 12 remaining

Home - Burnley, Palace
Away - Liverpool, Swansea

West Brom - 24 points (-25 GD), 12 remaining

Home - Liverpool, Tottenham
Away - Newcastle, Palace

Mathematically, anyone in the bottom half is at risk of relegation but realistically, I think the relegated teams will come from these six. Huddersfield might have saved their bacon with that last minute winner against Watford. I think 35 might be safe enough but that GD might come into play if Southampton can win a couple. They definitely have a stiff final stretch.

I think 2 points for us might be enough to finish ahead of Huddersfield. Win against Watford and we'll be in 12th place and looking good. Draw and we'll still be in good shape. Lose and this thread will go into meltdown while we wait for game in hand teams to play.

Swansea seem to be ok playing Stoke and Southampton at home but those are the last two games of the season. If they are still on 33 points heading into those games they might tighten up and blow it.

West Brom is done. Even beating Man United, they have to win out to even have a chance of survival. I don't think 33/34 points will be enough and 36 points might not be enough.

Southampton and Stoke have very similar games remaining but Stoke's GD will be the anchor that prevents them from surviving this season. Southampton have to beat Stoke and then actually hope Stoke beats Swansea and/or us to have a realistic chance of survival. I guess it's the same in reverse for Stoke. Looking at it now, I think the relegated teams will be West Brom and two from Stoke/Southampton/Swansea.
