Massive fan of Roy but found his FA Cup comments poorly judged. Not a major issue and may be brtually honest but talking down the Cup is poor

Whether RLC was a permant player is irrelevant. He was in our team and the latter half of the season enhanced it massively. We miss that drive and ball carrying. Him and a fit Benteke, even if the latter is misfiring, would be a huge difference.

We will agree to disagree on Cabaye. Massive loss. Kouyate is fine, Meyer could be very decent. But Yohan was a different class .

Anyway. Roy doing what Roy does, a very good competent job. Wilf recovers some form, Benteke back, we can really move up.

Maybe yes maybe no. The cup has been devalued gradually each season. No replays. Penalty shoot outs . Change of K.O time after over 100 years . I am a few years younger than Roy but agree with all he said. Used to be a buzz Cup Final day no matter who was playing. One of the few live matches shown. If you got through around you waited for Monday lunch time for the draw done by someone you had never heard of. Now the draw is done before the round, normally spread over 4 days is finished.

I don't think he was disrespecting the cup just more regretting what it has become.

I still would like us to win it though.

RLC was amazing, but not a player we can expect as anything more than a bonus for a period of time. Some loans work out, some don’t. But you’ve got to look at RLC as elevating the team in the short term, rather than judging the team with him in it as the benchmark.

We've not really though have we. Our midfield lacks creativity and we are not as solid in the middle of the park. Our midfield has gone backwards. The back five in the main has improved, and Roy is performing miracles with a less talented group of players in the middle of the park. RLC was the fourth best dribbler in the league, Wilf was second. Loads of goals came from the left and that trio of PVA, RLC and Wilf was lethal and brilliant to watch. Cabaye and Luka were both defensively fantastic AND good going forwards supporting Wilf, Andros and RLC.

Take what we have now add those two into it and we'd be finishing 7th to 11th. Right now we are likely to bounce around from 12th to 17th if we're lucky.

Palace have one of the best defence's in the league who do not buckle under pressure and the only problem area has been scoring and converting the many chances that we create.

Five goals in our last 2 tough matches against top sides shows what a huge difference having a striker in the side makes.

I fully expect this upward trend to continue now that we have started to convert our chances into goals.

Palace are far better than the relegation sides.

To be fair, RH said, from day 1 this season, that survival was his objective this season. He was certainly repeating the instructions given by the board, perhaps in light of the limited funds available for strengthening. A lot of fans were baffled and thought he was deliberately lowering expectations.
You could say, "aim low - underachieve".

The word 'deserve' is interesting here.

If - if - it means 'what you should get out with the resources you have available', then you are failing if you consistently get less than you deserve.
