He's never been the best defender but is still contributing to our attacking play - people just refuse to finish the chances off.

Which specific comments do you find awful? Maybe you’ve read a different article to the one I’ve read.

If a player didn’t get on with Hodgson and was being benched or worse, I wouldn’t have a problem with him asking for a transfer during a window. I fully expect Jairo to do so in the summer, for example.

I don’t see why this was disrespectful, as the clubs agreed a fee? Patrick didn’t refuse to play, but I think it was a mistake of Moyes to select him. Would you go in for a dangerous challenge if you were leaving next day?

Moyes didn’t particularly rate him nor want to keep him, so better that PVA moved on. Don’t forget, he’d already helped Sunderland in their previous relegation battles, probably doing more for that club than Moyes did then.

I think they were a whole load of deep rooted issues at Sunderland which was evident from the documentary I watched. I wouldn’t blame anyone for getting out of they could and probably better than some that took the money but didn’t play

And Patrick played 82 matches for Sunderland, so he’d stuck it out for 3 seasons.

It’s not like he disappeared the moment Sunderland hit difficulties.

But it wasn’t clicking with Moyes and he had a chance to return to working with Allardyce and returning to London. No certainty for him that this opportunity would come around again.

It’s not as if we stole him from them, they accepted the transfer fee.

You know that Richard Shaw, Freedman and possibly Mark Bright did similar things in the past and all currently employed by the club. In reality it is just a job and most of us would move somewhere else for a better environment and more money.

Created Jimmy's chance, Kelly's headed chance and Batshuyai's huge chance. Players wafted the chances he made but he was a major threat for us.

It is hard to justify 60/80k a week and 10m transfer fee for a left back who can't defend for shit. His best position at the moment would be left wing, if he could in fact score. He is the wink link in the defence.

He can't be that bad in defence considering we haven't conceded many goals this season. If you look at his overall contribution he isn't bad. Could he do better? Sure but don't ignore his strengths.
