Of course that was probably the intended replacement and what the profit from DG was mainly spent on - not really foreseeable that he would be broken quite so early - just rather unfortunate that DG is now doing so well and Remy is presumably still on treatment.

In light of Remy's latest knock, I have sincere doubts that we'll ever see him play for us in a competitive game. Even if he does, it'll take him a long time to acclimatise to the standard and pace required, which could severely limit his impact. Just have a feeling that his Palace career has Padovano and Ventola written all over it. Great DG replacement on paper, sadly seems unlikely to give us what we needed. Hope and pray I'm wrong.

We have a terrible record for loan deals. All we do is pat out money for players to keep physio busy or bench warm

What a brilliant comment! You clearly know your football. Newcastle now strolling the Championship and Gayle well top of the scoring charts.

You might have admitted you were wrong. Instead you introduce the childish tagline "Chris B out" presumably because you want to silence those you disagree with.

Censorship alive and well on the BBS. Well done you!

I would have loved to have seen DG paired with CB - I think their play would have worked well together.
To be fair though, it's only the reference to the 2 goals that doesn't make sense though isn't it. The underlying point that the Premiership is pretty much full of top class defenders and the Championship isn't is solid enough.

Having watched Gayle's game today on TV I would say that there is a bigger gap than I had remembered. The real test is can he come back and be as effective in the Premiership as he is now in the Championship. Other than against us - I hope so. I am not so sure he will score as many but I think a season of goal-scoring confidence will help him. Good move for everyone concerned but shame he didn't breakthrough for us. Good luck to him.

Ive given Gayle a fair amount of stick but id much rather have Gayle and Murray as back up right now as opposed to Remy, Wickham (Saturday aside) and Campbell.

Lets not also forget Bamford and Jerome scored for fun in this division in far worse teams. And Sako scored 15 from midfield.

Gayle will prove you all right and he shouldnt have been sold once he performs in the Premiership consistently.

the Newcastle comment was in jest. You start having stops as soon as somebody disagrees with you, and you are clearly very precious over DG. aS Forza touched upon next season will be the acid test IF Newcastle go up, but for now he is doing well. I just disagree with some of your earlier statements claiming he is a proven premier striker. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but the clubs queuing up for his signature a few months back will say otherwise.
Some of my favourite strikers at Selhurst haven't necessarily been good enough for the top flight. Dougie was never really given a run by Sir Steve first time round (97/98) before being bombed out to Wolves, and was only a bit part player in 04/05. Even Clinton struggled with the step up at Brum.
It is no indictment on them as players individually, but rewind 4 months when the fans begged for a "Proven" top flight striker, very few would have stated we already have one on our books in Gayle.
4 managers (5 if we include Millen) never thought he was good enough, and although parts of his game improved in the last year he was still decidedly mediocre (Put in a very credible effort at home to United, and was very good at home to Stoke)
On a sidenote it's a real shame Pulis left as Gayle was developing in to a better player, and then his career stalled again.

This forum had many people demanding Pards play Gayle off a target man. However on the few occasions that we did retain possession in advanced positions, I didn't see enough movement or, importantly, pace to frighten top flight defences and he often looked very static. If you rewind to his goals, most are well taken, but he seldom burst past defenders with the ball or off the shoulder, nor did he drift into space to collect the ball. I've had people comparing Gayle to AJ on this thread. AJ made the lone striker role his own in the Prem all those years ago pulling off the defence/working the flanks, making positive runs, and he had more of a natural instinct in my opinion, I don't think any of these apply to Gayle.

Anyway, it's irrelevant now and we move forward as a club.

Not joining in the debate, but a few Leeds fans at work were saying how clinical he is and a step ahead of everything, I was smiling until one of them said he was the best striker he had seen at Elland Road since Jermaine Beckford

This thread. Jeez

Gayle got a rough ride from some on here while he was here and quite a few thought he wouldn't cut it in the Championship. But he is. And he's doing very well

But that doesn't mean Palace were wrong to sell him. There is an inbetween.

The frustration bores from us having another bad weekend. Meanwhile Glenn and Dwight have another great one. Simple as that.

His performances in the Championship, whilst impressive, are irrelevant.

In my naivety I started this thread expecting him to do well and expecting for the thread to be in some way cheering him on.

Instead what we mostly have is either people going apesh*t saying we shouldn't have sold him or people going apesh*t saying he was terrible.

People really are a bunch of moany f*cks
