That was so brilliant. It’s also not talked about how good Freedman’s goal was - he was about 40 yards out when he initially got the ball

Forgot how important Speroni's save was in that match. Legend

I’m no big believer in fate, but the stars just kept working for us that season.

Tommy Black’s generous penalty with not long left against Walsall
AJ misses the penalty but the rebound comes straight back to him to slot home
We go to Coventry who have nothing to play for, only needing a point
We manage to lose for what seems like the first in months
Brian Deane of West Ham scores against Wigan in the dying moments to give us life again
The Sunderland home leg - brilliant game, brilliant atmosphere, and we just shave a ding-dong battle
Losing the away leg, we need a goal, and Julian Gray gets sent off
It is over now, right?
Darren Powell, a central defender who hasn’t played a minute for months, comes off the bench to head home
It’s also not really noticed that Shipperley is almost certainly fouling the keeper at the time
Both teams look finished at extra time, and we manage to win the penalty shootout
Gray is now suspended for the final and his replacement Shaun Derry has probably his best game for us in his first spell here
Shipperley scores
Leigertwood possibly gives away a penalty
There’s no real scare from West Ham and that’s it - we’ve done it

And I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it, I liiiiike it, liiiiike here we go, rockin all over the world

What a few months they were to be a Palace fan

Pretty much spot on (though Leigertwood's tackle was never a penalty )

After our amazing run from December, we were actually completely running out of steam at the end of the season and really limped over the line. Thankfully, Pardew sent his West Ham team out thinking they just had to turn up to win in the final.

We were watching it at a rammed Alma in Crystal Palace. Think there were a few broken limbs at the end as shit-faced fans fell off tables. Great night

That was a great time. Dowie was a real hero for that play-off winning run.

What were those silly t-shirts that West Ham wore? ‘The original academy’ or some such bollocks?

Derry was exceptional in the final.

Think we lost at home to Crewe in December having just sold Mullins (who was one of our best players) to West Ham thinking what a slog the remainder of the season was going to be. The turnaround in January was crazy, scoring goals for fun and winning 5 in a row.
It was Easter Weekend that it felt like it would be our year. We beat Cardiff away on the Easter Saturday, and then we narrowly beat West Ham 3 days later on the Easter Monday. As cpfc4evandeva said in an earlier post it almost felt like it was meant to be. Even when we were two down at Coventry, I was still confident we'd make the play offs, really good memories.
We met some Hammers fans at a service station on route to Cardiff in a limo drinking champagne and smoking cigars (this must have been 10am) and their arrogance was something else.

The iconic image from their defeat

Yep, they had those, whilst we had the 'one more round' ones. I know Dowie's gimicky approach came unstuck in the end, but I think the different slogans showed the difference on the day. They thought they should go up by right; we knew we had to earn it.

'Moore than a football club'

Bunch of tits.

I cried at the final whistle. One of 3 or 4 times I've cried over Palace in 44 years. Always happy tears. Always.
