Still the greatest game in the history of the FA CUP , What an awesome game / day / weekend
had been to the 0-9 and 2-0 and like everyone else wasn't expecting much , it was just so amazing/ emotionally draining , Liverpool had a bloody good side but we were pretty decent even without Wrighty We shocked the footballing world that day and it's a day that for anybody that was there will never forget |

Greatest game I've ever been to involving Palace and I've been lucky enough to have been at the most important games in the 47 odd years I've been a supporter. As pissed up as I got on that day I still remember everything about it. A treasured memory I will take to my grave.

I watched it again the other week and Liverpool's defending from set pieces was bordering on criminal.
This is the Thorn header that hit the bar. Liverpool won the league that year FFS! To view the link you have to Register or Login

Yeah, what a day that was. No understatement to say it's the best ever FA cup semi-final. Emotionally shattered at the end of it.

The first half went as expected, Motson, Wilkins et al wanking furiously at half time. Then we came out second half and basically split their butt cheeks with our red and blue totem pole of destruction. And much like a pretty boy with no scars emerging from Riker's after a long stretch having experienced similar treatment, Liverpool were never quite the same again.

Indeed. I was only a kid at the time but I recall Liverpool looking like scoring every time they went forward. John Barnes, in particular, frightened the life out of me every time he had the ball in our half. Complacency beat them that day.

Picking up on your John Barnes point, I think Ian Rush's injury was crucial. Barnes looked very dangerous in the first half, but he moved to a central position when Rush went off, and Thorn and O'Reilly shackled him very effectively.

In my top 3 worst departures ever- probably no.1 thinking about it!
The other 2 would be when we lost Jansen & Lombardo- I think within a week of each other in late 98/early 99. I never allow myself to have any favourites now!
