That'll be a quid in Poundland. It is inevitable they will shrink in order to still do 4 for a pound.

It's a bit like multibags of crisps from a supermarket, always smaller than if you buy a single packet from a corner shop

On the positive you can get packets of four normal (double) Bounty's in Poundland for a pound.

So, you're trying to tell me that they are a pound, in Poundland? Are other goodies to be found there at such a price, too?

Is it not? I thought it was run independently but under the Tesco name. If that is not so, my apologies, but I can't imagine they would be overjoyed by the way those that I have been in are run.

Edit: Googled it. Seems they are just a shambles

Official Facts:

24Hrs store opening is not only no longer being rolled out to stores, but is actually being reigned in as it is largely unviable and creates more logistic and operational headaches then it is worth.

Tesco Express is still Tesco PLC, but it is a sub-group.

You have the large stores, Tesco Metro, Tesco Express and one other which I cannot remember the name of.

One-Stop was bought out/taken over by Tesco about ten years ago before the massive opening of convenience stores by Tesco, Sainsbury's and Morrisons.

Morrisons failed in their convenience quest so have closed them down. Sainsbury's still run theirs, and Tesco has been expanding on a massive scale to the point that in many areas, there can be more than one within half-a mile of each other. On top of this, Tesco was recently given the go-ahead by the Competion Commission to take-over Booker. The result is that Tesco and Booker are merging their logistical operations and you will see both sets of lorries delivering to Tesco stores, Booker stores and even independents including the majority under the banners of Londis and Premier etc who were supplied by Booker. The independents are also being forced to become Click & Collect collection points. The vast majority of the independent businesses involved actually reject this but, unless they find an alternative supplier, they will be forced to accept.

Additionally, The Co-operative Group which has now returned to being named as just Co-op or Co-op Group have been given the go-ahead to take over Nisa which is meaning that Co-op will have to sell/close some stores just as they had to when they took over Somerfield who themselves took over some Safeway stores all those years ago, such as down George Street which later became Waitrose as it is today..

To add to all this, the Safeway brand which was originally taken over by Morrisons is making a comeback and will be exclusively available in Martin McColl or McColls Retail Group stores. This is as a result of an agreed deal which started in January where Morrisons and McColls agreed a tie-up for Morrisons to return to the convenience sector in partnership with McColls but under the various McColls banners. McColls are also closing all their newsagents hence the closure in George Street, Croydon, and if it hasn't already happened, the one in Addington/Shirley is closing too.

Confused?

In short, there is little competition anymore. All the big-boys have basically been given the go-ahead to destroy all the independents. Tesco in particular.

I was listening to Gold London in the Internet yesterday, and each set of adverts had at least 2 of these public announcement type adverts regarding child abuse or sexual harassment.

I was thinking much the same as you Bubbs. It seems like a mass over reaction to "advertise" in this manner. I'm sure with all the current publicity if you were a victim you would have found a place to notify the authorities and not wait for a public announcement to motivate you to do so.

Then again, I suspect there are many people that are victims and are scared or too embarrassed to report their ordeal, and maybe these ads will move them to report it. But as Bubbs alludes to, this has to be handled very carefully to protect the innocent as well as genuine victims.

Yes, all power to anyone who has been abused as a child. Not many more heinous crimes than that; but these advertisers are more out for sensationalism and the sell than any moral stand, and in doing so, produce something irresponsible and potentially damaging like that.

Never 100% hopeful of a Palace win at the best of times but when weekends start like this its even less positive. Am unsure where i stand with the hire car if they cancel it because i dont turn up. Caused me a bit more than that already. Left the house at half three yesterday. Now told that my hire car was cancelled and reallocated after 5 hours. Grr. Thatll be the bus replacement service all morning then. And then trains all weekend then more bus replacement services.

When you're sat on that leaning seat by tube doors at the end of every carriage which has has enough room for one person but not for two but some random tries to sit on it next to you on it.

I should add the train was not busy and the person could have easily stood, if it was busy I would have been polite and just stood to make as much room as possible.

Another murder confirmed in London yesterday bringing the tally to 48 this year, and a story that happens in another country thousands and thousands of miles away that involves the death of one person, the actual shooter, becomes wall to wall coverage for a few hours and still gets higher billing on the news this morning.

If people do not think we can be manipulated by our news coverage, here is an example where we are being led by the hand to focus in on what in the grand scheme of things is really trivial news while we have one on our own doorstep that is of great significance and another pointer to an underlying and very disturbing trend involving our youth in urban areas.

The story of this woman in California should not be newsworthy here, but we have been manipulated into believing that it is. Now I dont think in this case there is any reason other than sensationalism that it has attracted the level of coverage it has, but it is an example how easily we can be manipulated by our media output.

Bipe 04-04-2018 08:39 AM

I think the fact that it happened at YouTube's HQ has given it extra zeitgeisty gravitas in the media's eyes. If the incident had taken place at some nondescript Hicksville Tennessee mini-mart there wouldn't have been nearly as much coverage.

Very good post - the amount of US news stories we get now Is just incredible - so what if they have had some bad weather - there are places getting it worse.

Really good post. Had never thought about it in those terms. Rep sent

Anyone suggesting that Ronaldo's goal is possibly the best goal ever. DOH! Great goal but come on, there have been so many better ones before but because it's CR7 (how stupid is that too while I am ranting) its being uber hyped. Sinclair' overhead goal was far better for one and I could be here all day listing others. Stupid people :(

New rolls of toilet paper that refuse to let you begin the process of tearing off a strip, sometimes meaning you are left with a thin slither of paper as you attempt to sort yourself out.

I got caught up in the hype, think I said top 5 in champions league history. In hindsight, probably top 30.

I think we all do to an extent and it was obviously a great goal to score in an important match but I think they were posing the question on the news this morning about it being the best ever - but if it had been Macca who had scored it no one would have noticed :).

Ahhhh, I can dream of Macca roofing one in the Champions League for the mighty Eagles - Yessss!

What gave you that impression? :D

I absolutely hate the idea that if he gets his career back on track, that even at his age, he risks beating Jack Nicklaus in number of major wins.

Not gonna happen. Rest easy on that one

Geeky looking wankers who pretend they're walking, when in fact they are just running like they've shit themselves. Embarrassing sport. Winner looked like he walked it in the end though.

And the numpties in the audience who obliged. Not that I saw or would ever watch such unadulterated tosh.

Isle of Wight 08-04-2018 10:16 AM

City are still holding a 13-point lead in the title race with six games left and yet it was their supporters with head in hands, SOME IN TEARS, as the fans of a team that has trailed in their slipstream all season celebrated wildly.

WTF?? How pathetic is that? I hate the "we deserve" plastic support now a days. Man City fans NEVER used to be like that.

congress 08-04-2018 12:53 PM

I did not watch it, it seems the BBC thought it was newsworthy enough to put it on their website.

Dont start me off on news programmes on tv, ITV London news thought that with all the violence going on in London, they would do a piece on an elderly couple who works a extras in films! They even put the twitter names up of their journalists.
