Tax credit overpayments, or that fact I have to pay it back :hmph:
Edit - Finding out that they were all paid into my ex's account, and although I knew nothing about any claim in the first place, I'm still liable for half :veryangry |

Without flogging a dead horse, here is the actual photo about the math quiz from Facebook I was talking about:
https://s9.gifyu.com/images/math-pro...202b7caf22.jpg This has to be "New Maths" because I sure as heck didn't get taught anything like this. |
Why do something in three steps when you can do it five...
|
Five multiplied by three is clearly 5+5+5 and anyone who says otherwise is why the world is going down the toilet.

I think the maths question is practical for 5 x 3, but suppose the questions posed was 11 x 12?
It really would look silly (and impractical) to write 11 12 times across a sheet of paper. What purpose is there in that? |

Quote:
So 5x3 will be 3+3+3+3+3 so the child can know the answer by slowly adding the 3 another example is 4x6 will be 6+6+6+6 Etc. We know our times table as we have learnt it by heart but the child is just learning |

11x12 is 11+11+11+11+11+11+11+11+11+11+11+11 = 132. Most kids would do 10x12+12 - hell of a lot quicker to do mentally. Hey Teacher, leave those kids alone! :D |

This blxxdy annoyed me
I haven't been on here for a while but wanted to issue a warning
My son was driving to work for the early shift, and at a set of traffic lights, the car in front of him stopped sharply when the lights changed from green to amber. He hit the back of it damaging it's bumper. He is fully comprehensive, so rang his insurance company and was told as he was commuting to work he isn't covered. He is obviously very worried as he could now face a very large bill. To be honest he should have checked his policy more thoroughly, but when you took out your policy did anyone from the Insurance company mention this. I checked my policy and not only am I not covered but if I was commuting to a place of study I also wouldn't be covered. For those of us who thought that comprehensive ment comprehensive - Beware To those of you that are saying I knew that, well I didn't Most people use their car to get to work. Insurance companies hide behind these things to prevent paying out. Always remember you were visiting a friend. Rant over :veryangry:grrr::veryangry:grrr: Apologies if this is in the wrong place |

Unfortunately commuting is often now listed as “driving in peak periods” I have sympathy. I got 6 points, had my car towed and a dirty great fine for driving uninsured, despite being fully comp on my own policy. I was driving my partners car to my dad’s to look at fixing something, can’t remember what, when I was pulled over by the plod. (ANPR showed female driver, Police see bearded male in driver seat). Anyway, it transpired that under 25 years of age, driving other cars with their party insurance wasn’t automatically applied to the policy and that I had to pay a further £12 for it. I was 24 and 11 months. Old Bill, who can use discretion, decided to **** me anyway. |

I had not heard of this either. Will be checking my policy tonight. Another ‘dark pattern’ from the insurance industry

Never heard of this before, wonder if they've tried it here? You would think it would be a known thing. However it looks like there are a few levels of comprehensive insurance and most should choose to be at least covered for commuting.... just in case.

I may be wrong but at renewal time I think I am always asked if my travel is for social and domestic purposes only or includes business use and commuting. Of course that assumes you speak to someone at renewal - most people probably renew automatically or use online and/or price comparison sites
|
I have learned that if you are driving for anything that would even resemble work that you need to be fully covered for commuting. Even volunteering I think.
|
I also presume that if working from home permanently you would still need to include commuting if there was the off chance of ever being called in and using your car.
I almost fell into a pitfall when my employer asked me to use my own car to go on a business meeting. Thankfully I realised after an uneventful journey and made sure they insured me for future use. |
Is this insurers sneakily trying to avoid paying out since it appears drivers have decided things like stopping at red lights is no longer a thing since lockdown ended?

There are six insurance classes of use you can choose from: Social, domestic and pleasure: this covers driving to visit friends, go shopping, travel on day trips or holidays, and other day-to-day driving trips. It doesn’t cover driving to work. During the pandemic, people with this class of insurance were temporarily covered to drive to work, but from 30 April that won’t be the case. Commuting: this covers all of the above, plus commuting to work. This includes driving to a train station and leaving your car there while you get the train the rest of the way to the office, and it also covers driving someone else to work. Thanks for the interest
this is from my certicate of insurance, which is online and I admit I never look at Limitations as to use What's covered: ● Social, domestic and pleasure use. What's not covered: ● Travelling to and from one permanent place of business or study. ● Trade, business and professional use and any use connected with the motor trade, hire or reward. ● For racing on a public highway. ● Use at any event where your vehicle is driven: ● On a motor-racing track, including de-restricted toll roads such as the Nürburgring ● On a prepared course ● At any off-road event, such as a 4x4 event ● At an airfield. I always thought that getting to work was covered as you are not running a business with your car, and it is one of the main reasons for getting a car |

Odd that different people have different experiences of this. |
yeah its always one of the questions when you apply for insurance, are you using the car for social/leisure or for commuting too. Surprised that so many people havent noticed this.
Not sure what difference it makes if you are using car for leisure or commuting though, as long as the total mileage doesnt exceed what you've specified. |
I don't use it to commute... or do I?
I use it take the kids to school. I then leave the school and take a bus to work. I return on the bus to school, collect the kids and use the car to drive the kids home. |
I've been driving since the 1970's and wonder if over the years travelling to work has moved from the covered list to the not covered list.
I am with a reputable company, renew fully comp every year and don't remember being asked the question, may have been at some stage. All I hope is a few people check their cover. |
(I don't anymore thanks to covid)

I haven't however driven for close on 15 years, due first off to not being able to afford it and for the last 10 or so due to health. I must say, with all the brain-dead arseholes now on the roads ruling the roost I don't miss it. |
In my experience they now phrase it as "Driving in peak periods", as there's no real way to prove you're driving to work if you just say that you weren't.
|
Insurance is simply a racket. I don’t know anybody who doesn’t work in it that disagrees…

Quote:
Apparently being advised by a US Government Agency not to travel to the destination due to COVID and being upgraded to a red level country is not a reason for the insurance to pay out. Seems the hotel being destroyed by a hurricane, a terrorist attack, plane getting hijacked, war being declared to name are few are the only triggers for them to pay out. Fortunately the hotel we planned to stay at has given us a rain check for the next year, so not lost the money (yet), but in all honesty at this stage would rather have just got our money back. Pretty much you or your traveling companion have to die for the insurance to be effective. |
It's simple. If insurance is required by law, buy the absolute minimum coverage. Otherwise don't insure.
I have always done this. Maybe you could say I've been lucky but I've never had the need to make any insurance claims so the money I've saved over the years by not paying insurance will easily mean I'm quids in even if I write off the car tomorrow. |

On subject I to worked at grass roots football, parents should be banned as far as I’m concerned, just two quick and pathetic examples, Back in the late eighties Cambridge as other counties had a share of migrant asylum seeking Vietnamese. A young lad who had no papers or birth certificate played in an under 14 game, upon scoring a loud cry came from the opponents parents quote take his trousers down we can then see how old he is I abandoned the game. The other was pretty common tackle boy break his leg if you have to. Absolutely disgusting.
