I feel like a bloody pin cushion lately!

I've since been told by a colleague in remission from cancer (who really is a pin cushion) that if they'd hit a nerve we'd have known and jumped about 6ft (I didn't feel a thing). My reaction is bizarre as I've had no swelling or bruising at all. It's definitely vaccine related too as the issue started as soon as I had it. Maybe the injection caused something local which has trapped a nerve. It's annoying and makes me feel nauseous when I lose the feeling in my thumb. Thankfully my arm doesn't ache quite as much and I can sleep.

Almost.
It's George Eliot. The slightly effeminate look, the flowing locks. It's a dead give away.

Maybe a slightly controversial one but Children in Need.

The U.K. is a developed country in the 21st century. It should not be the case that a TV channel has to ask people to donate to charity to help such children. It should be the job of a government in what is a rich country to provide such help. Instead of an evening trying to raise money, the BBC should focus their energies on holding governments to account to explain why such children have to depend on charity.

Pudsey would be more effective haranguing government ministers about their next round of spending cuts.

My frigging bank (again).

I made my first Zelle money transfer today, and apparently that triggers some extra security steps until it is established it was me making the transfer and authorized it.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate their concern and the steps they take, but I still find it annoying especially as they don't explain the reasons for the extra steps being taken, i.e. no warnings.

Ronaldo this, Ronaldo that, Ronaldo whatever. I couldn't give a flying **** about him, but see him everywhere. No fewer than 6 different articles on the BBC's Premier League page are about him, adding to its wider wankfest over Manure, Liverpool, Chelsea, Barcelona, Real Madrid, and now the barcodes. Back to the wanker, I don't care who's the better player between him and Messi, but the gulf between the two in class and humility seems to be a mile wide.

Very good point. There are other instances like this, e.g the volunteers the govt used during the pandemic. And recently one minister suggested using volunteers to help out the NHS this winter. On top of that, I understand that things like the RNLI are all manned by volunteers. Even things like the Park run are all run by volunteers, and I’m pretty sure this saves costs (indirectly, due to improving health) for the NHS.

The stupidity of the panel on the Jeremy Vine show.
1. Complaining about Joe Lycette who has threatened to shred £10k if Beckham goes ahead to take his £10m sponsorship from Qatar for being the face of the World Cup. Beckham is to earn £150m not 10. How the fk do these twits not know.
2. They were moaning about the Artemis rocket saying it was a waste of money. Not one of the fkwits mention Helium 3, which is ultimately the real reason for the launch.

I do not go because I enjoy having to avoid your camera tripod that you've set up in the hope that Gym Shark will send you free clobber. And also don't get muchos when some poor group of young men is looking at you. They don't fancy you, they just think you're a dick.

I decided to work at a local business today - it's a multi-use venue (cinema, cafe, etc) with a large open space with lots of tables where they encourage people to come and work. I can't believe the number of people with laptops who come and work without buying a tea or coffee to support the local business providing the space/heating/electricity. If you've got a professional job where you can work remotely on a laptop, surely you can afford to buy a tea/coffee/bit of cake?

Are you aware that the biggest growth operation in the UK is foodbanks? You may wish to re-evaluate your definition of a rich country.

I'd also suggest that Rashford actually offending Tory politicians on stuff like that and school dinero means they really are several steps removed from where wealth should be distributed. To them and their supporters the needy are all feckless wastrels that should be in workhouses. It is a mindset that is unable to consider the privileges that have spared them from the possibility of the same fate. The bank of mummy and daddy got them through the arduous path of decent school, uní, shoe-in job or immediate political career. They seem to think everyone had those same chances. Or are unable to compute the possibility that other people haven't. Worst still are those that believe the lower classes are there to serve the interests of the well off. I fear at least a couple of those have been high ministers and PMs in recent years.

That is why Children in Need is needed.

Poncetastic.

Then on their same electronic devices posting pics about what a great location they have found.

Personally, I would naturally feel ashamed to be doing that. Even when I have taken the odd class in Starbucks, I usually have a couple of coffees. Or a coffee and later a juice.

Why dont they look to the top earners and want to vote for a party that would claw back some of that off shore loot, rather than look down at the people at the bottom? How can they vote for a party that carved up the best part of £47 billion NHS PPE money- to friends of bungle in a dog canning company- now dog food and PPE R US, and a pub landlord, going from food and drinks- to , food, drinks and PPE are us?

You had me at Self Service Tills...

davech 19-11-2022 10:50 AM

If the DIY jobbies are so great, why do they need so many staff to explain how they work and put them right when they go wrong? They could open a few more proper tills if they closed the poxy DIY ones and re-deployed the presumably till-trained staff to normal tills.

Self Service tills are presumably why so many people are being dicks and clogging up queues at kiosks with far more items than they should. Lunch items and newspapers only. How can I get my lottery ticket without waiting for ever?

And what happened to the 6-items-or-fewer/basket only tills? (They called them '6 items or less', but that is another argument.)

The bureaucracy involved when selling a flat, I have to get 3 other co freeholders to sign a document saying they agree to my new owner taking over my freehold, 999 year leasehold- each must sign with photo id, an independent witness must also sign with phone number and address, the other 3 freeholders must also provide a recent utility bill. Not to bad you might think, but none live in the actual flats, one is up north, and has dementia, is 80 0dd and doesnt answer his phone! Let alone reply to the form i have sent him!And all these things can"t be done online- the solicitor doesn"t work that way!

Spain's greed inspired tax laws, which mean that as a singer I would have to register as autonomo (self employed status for tax, about 300€ min a month) for me as a solo act, another for the duo I'm in and then a third for the band I'm in, also meaning the other three members would have to do the same. All that if we want to play in hotels and for wedding organisers. Looks like we ain't playing hotels or weddings next year.

Was this the same pre brexit? Or because we are no longer part of the EU?

That’s not right, I don’t think. You just do it in a show by show basis and the promoter pays the tax.

Went to the newly restored Battersea Power Station today. Impressive restoration, same expensive brand shops as every other upmarket shopping centre but dogs everywhere - in the shopping areas, in the shops, in the restaurants. When did that become the norm? Won't be going back again.

Watched the promo video, think its part of the sell, you can bring your dog. Also Battersea being part famous for a dogs home. Its ,£15 to go up the lifts for the view.

They’re probably trying to stop him singing.

Well - it’s how we do it when we promote gigs - the promoter’s entered a commercial relationship with the musicians in which the promoter acts as employer for the duration of the gig. And so we have to pay IRPF, you don’t pay autónomos. But I guess maybe there’s some circumstances I don’t know about.
