I certainly don’t think he ‘failed’ and it was his injury that saw him miss out rather than his form.

Maybe my choice of words "Failure" could have been different as he did have some decent innings against India and then the misfortune of the finger injury. But then his form fell away hence why he got ignored eventhough we went through countless of other opening batsmen, maybe the error was by the selectors to reintroduce him into an Ashes series in Australia, but looking at his nervous and unsure approach does not bode well for an Opener and that is what i am judging him by.
Lets see what happens in the months ahead and if the selectors still have faith in him or not.

They clearly see something in him, and have done for a while.

He looked assured vs India in the summer, and I thought he looked fine at the beginning of this series. Clearly he's struggling now but I'd not say it's going to be terminal to his england career.

Yes definitely well worth visiting and quite unique. I'm looking forwards to seeing how they Televise the Test there.

You literally said the following :

You might not like me calling that out as nonsense but it is, indeed, nonsense. He absolutely, completely lost form after his finger injury but in November 2016, everyone was clearly very impressed with his batting in the 3 Tests in India.

In fact, here's what Virat Kohli had to say at the time about the then 19 year old...

$$$$$

I see Joe Root has given his backing to Silverwood. That's another decade of Ashes misery :p

Well, I suppose he has to say that (in public, at least)

But **** me, we need to get rid of Silverwood ASAP.

He deserves to be sacked, just on his decision to leave Broad out of the 1st and 3rd tests, alone:clown:

Jordan's Jacket 13-01-2022 11:44 AM

Given Root has no say on the appointment of the Head coach it's kind of irrelevant what he says

To keep it in the same time slot as the Perth Test would have been for broadcast purposes (so ultimately $$$, as suggested already).

I've no issues with the Day/Night matches. I'm glad to see Test cricket is doing something to move on and develop.

What i find mental, is all this talk about rotation and resting players, is that Stokes, the player who'd played the least over the last year is the one we've not chosen to rest/rotate.

What time is everyone planning on getting up tomorrow? I'm toying with a 5am alarm but realise 'lunch' will probably be at 6

I’ll set it for 6 and take the dog for a walk through the “dinner break” so I’m back for the middle session. but imagine I’ll get up about 5 to go for a piss and justo go downstairs to watch it.

RazorsEdge 14-01-2022 03:32 AM

I am up already but the rain seems to have reached Hobart and toss has been delayed

KYLIE MINEAGLE 14-01-2022 04:02 AM

Root wins toss and puts Australia in.
