Fair enough then.
But, I don't think he is a good enough contender for coach of the year. But thats my opinion. Along with the rest of the AFC East, we had some of the easiest schedules in the league. The Patriots strength of schedule being the hardest at 11th easiest. I think Next season is tough for ourselves but you have got both the Steelers and Chargers as you finished first whereas we got Denver and Baltimore. I wont go into schedules as some of you actually have teams in the playoffs :sob: |
Manning(the H.O.Fer one) wins MVP.
Pretty sure there are more deserving candidates considering he missed part of the season, but he does have the stats to back it up. |
chaps... a few months ago someone (quite possibly me) put up a link to a US website which sells loads of college & NFL merchandise. When I mean loads, I mean loads!
Did anyone perhaps bookmark that website? I've lost it, and with the chance to purchase some american stuff, I need it back!!! Any ideas??? Tried googling, but I couldn't find it. I don't really want to hunt around for it... |
I think the strength of schedule argument is a weak one - remind me of our record a season ago compared with yours?
Belichick did a great job in keeping his team afloat given the Pats' injury troubles, but the fact is that squad went 16-0 a year ago so they clearly had plenty of talent depth and experience at winning games at the outset of the season. In comparison Miami had none of those, yet finished above New England. And yet you still want Belichick to claim an award over Sparano? Crazy bias there, Paul. Manning played in every game, by the way. He only sat out a portion of the finale because the Colts were already in the play-offs. |
elliott, that was me.
www.footballfanatics.com And Ben, didn't he miss out the first few games or was he overshadowed by t the Brady situation so no-one took much notice? I thought he had some awful games? |
top work paul!
have a star. |

Once he regained his sharpness he was outstanding - hence the Colts going nine unbeaten heading into the play-offs. I've no argument with him being named MVP. You realise they haven't lost since 27 October? |
Yes, although if it weren't for two plays against the Patriots they would have in that time.
They are unbeaten in 9 I believe. |

Of course it was the same for the rest of the AFC East (if that is the point you were making). BTW for anyone disputing Manning's MVP credentials, you need to read this part of his interview with Peter King: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200.../Week17/1.html What he went through in the close season and early part of this season is nothing short of bewildering. As one journalist (Jim Caple) said a few years ago, I don't think we really have any idea what the pain tolerance of an NFL player is. |
That was the point I was after as well.
Yes, we did go 11-5, but we had a pretty weak schedule and the strengths of schedule have only increased due to 3 AFC East teams being 10-6 or above. I think all AFC East teams went 4-2 in the division. And Buffalo went 0-6. Remove that and all teams went 7-3 outside of the division against two of the easier divisions. I think, like Miami we lost our two "strength" games against the Colts and the Steelers and Miami against the Ravens and the Texans/Jags? We had all but the same schedules but we had the extra play-off team. This isn't a game of oneupmanship, but saying that our injury problems equalled out because of a weak schedule is frankly stupid. Brady, Bruschi, Thomas, Harrison, Maroney and the rest. I would say with Brady we would have been 13-3/14-2, but we shall see next year. Brady - Comeback player of the Year/MVP/Superbowl MVP 2009 :lux: |

While i'm in the mood, would anyone like to argue the point of Phillip Rivers and Brett Favre again.
One dragged his team into the play-offs. The other lost his team the play-offs. One had the best passer rating in the league. The other was 21st. One had more TDs and less INTs. The list goes on and on and on. |
Trouble in camp at the Jets. Fired Mancini and now rumours abound that Favre was favoured to much and he doesn't seem all that welcome in the locker room .... Ouch!

"Unbeaten since..." We played them in Week 9 and should have beaten them. They hit their run after the Week 4 bye and lost to the Packers in Week 5/6 as that was when I raved about Rodgers. They lost one between Weeks 5 and 17 IIRC. Thats one hell of a run. I just think that either Harrison or DeAngelo Williams deserved it. But looking at Manning's stats, I wont go into a debate about it after this. |

One quote I like from this whole situation. Media: "Why didn't Favre have an MRI straightaway, they only take 10 minutes?" Tennenbaum: "He didn't want to have one" I mean. What the hell. He is your player. You own him. He goes for an MRI whether he likes it or not. They wanted the offense to be opened for Favre. The Jets then became the Bretts. And then you hit trouble. |
Good read that about Peyton...
Have to admit my opinion about him has changed this season. I couldn't stand him before, but he's actually not that bad really. And his injury sounds horrific. Didn't he lose like 2 stone over the summer? (I didn't read that in the interview piece so can't remember the exact number). |

I also like Peyton after looking more at him, his life and his career as well as what was said between him and Brady this season and last.
Nice guy. Jaz, people have had a go at me for it before. But I think Brett is an arse and has been awful the last few years bar one. He screwed that season up in the two biggest games as well. Let's wait for him to cry at the podium when he is retiring. Then we'll know he is back again. |

Oops.
I should read people's entire posts before posting. Have looked a prat for that (and many other things) before. |
