Kent beat Essex last night by 28 runs on DLS.

We batted first and scored 167-9. After the way we started I would have liked more. In reply Essex were 31-4 after five overs when they went off becasue of nearby lightning and then it rained and they didn't resume.

Agreed, also produced a decent pace mid 80's plus with a good line and length also fair movement. I was impressed.

Well he is certainly our most impressive quickie
Good night and the rain held off no problem. What a quality player Pope is. Not really the biggest of hitters but a quick accumulator of runs. He reminds me of another class Surrey oldie Graham Thorpe.

Our top order batting line up needs Finch back. Burns and Smith although talented red ballers are not 20/20 players. Will be a struggle to finish in the top 4.

Bit of a moan but even in the reduced capacity at the Oval on Friday, there were still plenty of loud, drunk idiots, many of whom were not wearing masks when moving between their seats & the bars.

Also, unimpressive scenes at Edgbaston on Thursday….

Bloody rain. Hope it is not a 6 over game as we will likely lose.

The crowd at the Oval (excluding pavilion) for T20 is horrendous. They showed some tart in the crowd chatting up three drunk blokes behind her whilst with her boyfriend and the the boyfriend decided to bite on her breast. The cameraman cut away pretty sharpish but what was seen was seen. :D

A whole new generation of SW-postcode Hooray Henry's and Henrietta's seem to descend on the place for T20 in recent years. Must be the now "grown-up" offspring of the 80s originals.

Another rained off game. Three now means we cannot pull away from Somerset in 5th in the South Group who have two games in hand.

On the flip side, we absolutely blagged a point there. If they’d bowled one more ball (i.e. a full 5 overs), there would have been a result - a Sussex win.

Sussex furious :p

spike 27-06-2021 07:22 PM

Was just about to post the same: the umpires gifted us a point.
I'll try to fire up the dl calculator to see if a wicket could have won it for Surrey.

One more ball and we'd have lost.

No doubt Sussex will be annoyed (to put it mildly) but can they really say they deserved a win?

I'm just grateful for small mercies.

Agree. I would have been annoyed as a Surrey fan if it happened to us. Under those circumstances no one deserved to win. Pity as that game could have gone either way. If Wright stayed they probably would have won but in those conditions who knows what the result would have been.
A point not too bad for Surrey. A win at Glamorgan would see them in a decent position.
We are all looking forward to see Jamieson in the County games. What a difference he could make.

Wonder if there is any official guidance given to umpires in such situations. Grateful for the point but seemed quite unfair on Sussex, fortunately!

With both batsmen having been hit on the head & a wet, slippy cricket ball being used, the umpires must put player safety ahead of ensuring a result.

Surrey would have needed a wicket off the next ball to tie, or 2 to win (Mankad or dismissal from a wide / no-ball, followed by another from a legal delivery).

DLS par scores at 5 overs when opponents have scored 175 (according to ECB scoring app):
33/0
37/1
43/2
51/3
62/4
75/5
94/6
116/7
140/8
159/9

Surrey v Kent 20/20 9th July is up on site now as social distancing.

cappuccinoeagle 30-06-2021 08:16 PM

Surrey lost to Glamorgan yesterday by 1 run. Jamison ( 31 runs off 15 balls) was run out off the last ball!
Mark Stoneman has gone on loan to Yorkshire for the duration of the T20.
Surrey playing Hampshire tonight.

Yeah, can’t go to that one. Might do the CC game vs Somerset starting on Sun 11th. Bottle of bubbly in the Peter May or Lock Balcony - nice.
