Adding on to Swanny and Zonin's conversation, Antonio Gates was drafted as a Basketball player.

Basketball players make very good Tight-ends.

Actually Gates didn't get drafted in the NBA. He was told he was too much of a "tweener" to make it, and then he got asked to go to try outs by NFL teams.

That was what I meant.

Well in NBA sense it means that he played more than one position but he wasn't outstanding in either to really warrant being picked. His favoured position (Gates) was Power Forward but those guys are usually 6'10" + and he's only 6'4".

"A tweener in basketball is a term, sometimes used derisively, for a player who is able to play two positions, but is not ideally suited to play either position exclusively, so he/she is said to be in between. A tweener has a set of skills that do not match the traditional position of his physical stature."

Another way to look at it in Antonio Gates circumstance is that he had the height of a Guard, but played as a Forward. Typically a Point Guard in the NBA is around 6' plus, a Shooting Guard about 6'3" plus, a Small Forward about 6'6" plus, Power Forward 6'10" plus and usually Centres are 7' plus, although Dwight Howard is arguably the best Centre in the NBA and he's only 6'11". :p

I think the 6'11" refers to the distance between his shoulders, rather than his height? ;)

And isn't Shaq about 8 foot around the waist these days? :D

In NFL, a tweener can be a DE/OLB. Like Brandon Graham. He's a DE in a 4-3, but in a 3-4, does he put on weight to be a DE or does he become an OLB.

Makes sense to me, tweener = utility man (kind of)

Or betweener. Between 2 positions. :p

Although it seems unless you're outstanding, being a tweener or utility man isn't going to get you very far in US Sports.

I wouldn't support another team. I assume you mean in similar circumstances that Palace face, extinction?

I would continue to follow the sport but enjoy it for what it is rather than follow a single team. Rather the same view as if Palace disapeared.
