Yeh. I had noticed that. Didn't really want to interfere. You looked like you were enjoying setting the world right.

Rumours that Roy Williams (S) will be cut in Dallas as well as Greg Ellis.

Nah, it'll probably be the Pats against someone. Yep, deffo the Pats. THE PATRIOTS WILL WIN IT ALL.

As if the Redskins need your help to have a mediocre season ;)

As in lanky Wide Receiver Williams? Send him to DC, please, perfect for the West Coast. Oh hang on, you mean the safety.

elliott 11-02-2009 10:03 AM

RL Williams = the safety I think.

Not RE Williams Jr (the WR)

pauldrulez 11-02-2009 10:16 AM

Who cares ;)

Not sure about Jaz, but the Cowboy fans I've heard on radio or forums hate both Roy Williams's.

:D

I don't know them personally so I couldn't comment. I'm sure the hatred for the WR Williams stems from the stupid deal with Detroit to get him and then he simply doesn't turn up. I've read though that he is in the TO camp when it comes to criticising Romo and Garrett ... which may not be the wisest idea at the moment.

pauldrulez 11-02-2009 04:23 PM

Favre retires.

Where've I heard that before........

ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper is holding a conference call today and the Patriots came up a few times.

Kiper was asked to put himself in the position of the Lions (picks 1, 20, and 33) and Chiefs (picks 3 and 34), assuming they were considering taking quarterbacks Matthew Stafford and Mark Sanchez in the draft.

Given that, would he take Stafford or Sanchez, or would he rather have Matt Cassel in a trade?

"If I were Detroit or Kansas City, I would make that move in a heartbeat. If you’re asking me if I would rather have Matt Cassel or Matthew Stafford or Mark Sanchez, I’d rather have Matt Cassel," Kiper answered.

“He looked like he should have been the No. 1 overall pick in the draft. It’s amazing. To watch him play this year, if he would have been the No. 1 pick in the draft, people would have been very happy with the way he’s playing right now,” Kiper said.

“He came out the same year the other three quarterbacks did [Alex Smith, Aaron Rodgers, Jason Campbell] and right now he’s better than those other three – and I’m including [Jay] Cutler in that. I would rather have Cassel than Cutler. So, to me, I think Cassel is more than worthy of being a guy that the Kansas City Chiefs or Detroit Lions go after. He’s played to the level of a No. 1 pick overall this year.”
So I am on Casselwatch and now on Favrewatch.

Is a kick in the nads an alternative option instead of those three? I'll take that rather than any of the above.

And if Kiper really puts Cassel ahead of Cutler then I've lost a lot of respect for him.

Strathclyde Eagle 11-02-2009 04:44 PM

Love the Detroit fan in the comments of one of the places that Paul's article was posted suggesting that Stafford be picked #1 and then the Lions picking nothing but defenders. :D Yeah, let's see how good Stafford is when being thrown to the turf all the time (alternatively, ask Urban Meyer how effective he was in the last Florida-Georgia game).

elliott 11-02-2009 04:48 PM

line = win.

close thread (again).

pauldrulez 11-02-2009 04:51 PM

If I was playing the Lions, i'd have 8 in the box and 3 others on Calvin Johnson ;)

Strathclyde Eagle 11-02-2009 11:16 PM

Sadly, that probably does the job there. :D

pauldrulez 12-02-2009 08:55 AM

As a warning to you all, i've almost finished my pre-combine/FA mock draft.

I don't expect it to be anywhere near right though ;)

Kiper has clearly lost the run of himself.

Cassel better than Alex Smith? Yes, fine.

Better than Jason Campbell? Too early to say.

Better than Cutler and Rodgers? Hahahahahahahahaha. HA!

Time to hang up the pen, shut down the computer, and retire, old man.

nookiebear 12-02-2009 11:21 AM

I want to see how Cassel does in another offense before passing judgement

Would Jason Campbell be better if he didn't have to learn a new offense every season? Probably? We'll find out next season.

How scarily good would the Big Ben be if the Steelers had an O-Line that protected him?

It's not just down to the QB's abilty, mind, as we all know

jazman 12-02-2009 12:34 PM

The free agency looks very tasty this year with several decent players up for grabs. It has been mooted that Peppers would be a great shout for the Pats - comments?

As for Dallas, I'd love us to get hold of Ray Lewis and a WR, the Housh ideally to relieve TO of his duties ...

An awkward looking Jason Whitten interviewed on the sidelines at the Pro Bowl being asked what can be done at Dallas to stop the in fighting ... He never denied that he and TO had issues but was confident things would happen in the close season to resolve such ...

Just watched the Pro Bowl highlights. Great to see Larry Fitz not sulking about the SB loss and getting on with it and putting in a great performance ...

pauldrulez 12-02-2009 11:11 PM

Can we have a reasonable debate here :)

Cassel IMO is worth the amount of a first round pick at least if traded.

A first round pick from KC, Detroit, Minnesota, San Fran for example.

Lets say Stafford is as good as Flacco has been this year as he is nowhere near what Ryan was. We'll say that Detroit take him at 1 and rule them out of any Cassel trade.

That leaves the Chiefs sitting at 3. Do they take Mark Sanchez who is the 2nd QB on the board? Despite him not being rated anywhere near as high as that? Or do they attempt to trade down, maybe get someone to trade up who wants Crabtree or Aaron Curry. That could leave them at say Number 10. And in doing that they may pick up either a 2nd or 3rd rounder as well. They then trade 10 for Cassel who would then become their Franchise QB.

Then they have pick 35 that they can then use to trade back into the first round to take a Franchise Left Tackle.

Should they do this, then they get a QB with a years experience. They get a rookie LT who can be the future of a Franchise.

They have Dwayne Bowe, but arguably need another receiver. So they trade their 3rd (67) and whatever they get in the earlier trade and move up to take Darrius Heyward-Bay to be the 2nd receiver on their team.
He's quick, tall and catches a lot of balls and broke a few records in his senior year.

So in the basis of 2-3 picks, they have a franchise QB in Cassel, a Left Tackle to protect him and a 2nd Receiver for him to throw to.

Its a start for them and its a way for Pioli to stamp a mark on a team rather than going for a lesser QB in Sanchez.

My opinion is that all Cassel did was improve from Week 5-17.

I went from worrying about the Offense every game to hoping that the D would stop more than 20 points so that we could get a big win. Yes, there were a lot of Slants, Screens and dump-offs, but you have to make them passes when you have an awful OL for the first 7 games of the year.

He was sacked about 30 times in the first 7 with a makeshift OL. For the final 9 he was sacked 18 times, ad some of them were when he took off on a Draw but was taken down quickly.

I know I go on about it a lot, but everything that was thrown at him after the Week 4 bye, he handled perfectly. Except for Pittsburgh where he was battered.

Mock Draft to be posted tomorrow night :D

And not to reopen this debate.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=090...s&confirm=true

I don't know how they can dismiss Peyton Manning that easily? I rank him and Brady almost the same. Tom only being ahead due to the 3 Championships as well as the records from 07.

Quote:

The poll:

Who is the greatest quarterback in NFL history?

Sammy Baugh

Otto Graham

Johnny Unitas

Terry Bradshaw

Joe Montana

Dan Marino

John Elway

Tom Brady

You guys are way off
I dont know loads about the older guys, but saw Sammy Baugh in an NFL special a few weeks back and he was awesome.

When I didn't know much abut NFL, but visited my Uncle when I was 6. I always heard the names Elway, Montana, Marino. On TV programmes I heard those 3 names. Obviously I know a lot (probably too much) about Brady.

So what I want to know, Bradshaw, Unitas and Graham. Teach me about them. I've heard of them, i've seen and read bits about them. But what did they bring to their team?

And why no Favre or Manning in their Top 8?
