According to the radio report I've just heard, the guy rescued from the boat was NEITHER of the NFL players. They reckon he was the only person the coastguard found.

For those in America or that are pretty experienced with being over there, how much are cross-country flights. I'm thinking that I go and see a home Pats game and i'm then tempted to see an away game somewhere and then fly somewhere else to see a game and then fly back.

It can be pretty reasonable as you could have a choice of carriers depending on where you need to fly to. Delta and Jet Blue, amongst others, have good connections out of Boston or JFK. Why don't you try and tag the home game onto whenever we play the Jets at Giant's Stadium - would make it easier and more local. Alternatively, Buffalo or somewhere else northern around the lakes.

Oh, seems Indy is the only northern away match we have apart from divisional. Wait for the schedule and then plan it that way, if funds might be a problem.

Alternatively, do what I do and just go to ANY game :p

I have to spend 4 days in Foxboro before and after the match as I will be on the Pats Radio show that I always go on about :) As they always let those visiting on.

Then I have to visit the Hall of Fame. Patriot Place. See the game etc lol.

I've driven past RW Stadium in Buffalo. If you don't have a car, good luck getting there. Actually, good luck getting to Meadowlands, too! And Foxboro, as well. In fact, anywhere :D

No other reason than 4 days near the stadium, some decent restaurants nearby and if all else fails then there is a McDonalds ;)

If not, I may do 4 days in Foxboro, 4 days in Boston. Maybe see a Sox game if there is one on at the time.

God, I wouldn't stay in Foxboro, not when Boston is half an hour by train and is an amazing city to spend time in.

And yes, there is transport from Manhattan to the Meadowlands but I hope you like sitting in traffic for three hours. After the Jets game in September, we just re-lit the grill and kept eating and playing football in the car park until the traffic was moving. That's what you need, Paul - the proper tailgating experience :lux:

Agree with Saxon. Why would you want to stay in Foxboro all that time? Particularly when the greatest city in the world is just up the road!!!

A word of warning though: you'll have to pay top whack for Sox tickets for any game from September onwards. Use stubhub.com to look for seats.

I'm waiting for the NFL schedule to come out and then I can get on with booking it.

I'm staying in Foxboro for a few reasons. First off, the Saturday will be when I arrive so i'm adjusting to the time. Sunday, i'm tailgating and watching the game. Monday, I'd bus or train into Boston. Tuesday, i'm visiting the Radio lot, getting a stadium tour and visiting the Hall at Patriot Place.

From then on, the week has no plan to it. I may stay longer though, especially if there are two Pats games in a week.

It's looking like I may have someone to take with me rather than paying for my whole family, so extra spending money and extra staying time is good.

I want to visit Salem for sure though.

I've been to Salem twice and it's an amazing place.

Adjusting to the time? F*cking pussy. Jetlag is for wimps.

Redskins release DE Taylor after one injury-plagued season

WASHINGTON -- Jason Taylor's disappointing tenure with the Washington Redskins came to an end Monday when the defensive end was cut for refusing to commit to the team's offseason workout program.

The Redskins wanted to add a workout clause to the former NFL Defensive Player of the Year's contract, but he declined. The clause would have required Taylor to take part in 25 days of offseason workouts.

"He wanted to spend the offseason with his family," said Taylor's agent, Gary Wichard. "He just kind of chose family over going up there."

The flap is reminiscent of last year, when Taylor clashed with the Miami Dolphins for competing in "Dancing With the Stars" rather than working out with the team during the offseason. Taylor finished second to Kristi Yamaguchi on the reality television show, then was shipped by the Dolphins to the Redskins.

That meant Taylor spent virtually the entire year apart from his wife and children in Florida.

"He had been away for four months in Los Angeles, then he got back to Miami and then he got traded," Wichard said. "He wanted to spend time with his three kids."

The six-time Pro Bowl pick had been considered a possible salary-cap cut in Washington because of the value of his contract, which would have paid him about $8.5 million this season. However, the Redskins were willing to give Taylor the full salary if he had agreed to the workout clause.

Instead, Taylor cost the team two draft picks and gave them one ineffective, injury-plagued season.

Taylor was acquired on the first day of training camp last year after Phillip Daniels went down with a season-ending knee injury. The Redskins gave up a second-round draft pick in 2009 and a sixth-round selection in 2010.

But Taylor, who was healthy for nearly all of his 11 seasons in Miami, sprained his knee during the preseason and then suffered a calf injury during a Sept. 21 victory over the Arizona Cardinals. Taylor required an emergency operation to have blood drained from his calf and had a second procedure about one month later.

The calf injury caused Taylor to miss three games and hampered him for much of the season. Also, he struggled to fit into a Redskins defensive scheme that gave him less freedom than he had with the Dolphins. Taylor, whose 120.5 career sacks are the most among active NFL players, had only 3.5 for the Redskins, his lowest season total since 1999.

"He played hurt," Washington head coach Jim Zorn said in a statement released by the team, "but still gave his best effort to be prepared and play hard every week."

The move rules out a chance for the Redskins to field a defensive line that would consist of three renowned sack-masters: Taylor, Andre Carter and Albert Haynesworth, who on Friday signed a seven-year, $100 million contract with a record-breaking $41 million in guaranteed money.

With Taylor gone, the Redskins are expected to focus on re-signing defensive ends Daniels and Demetric Evans, who became free agents last week.

Curry, the Wake Forest LB? Thought he looked a bit small in their bowl game against Navy. I could be wrong though, it was just a first impression (I tend to look out for seniors in bowl games and think about how they feel possibly playing their last ever game).

Very interesting Bill Simmons/Mike Lombardi podcast. Have listened to the first seven minutes of it so far, but there is stuff to do with contracts which I didn't know about, including the way some contracts are tied up to basically force a player into free agency. Haynesworth's deal is apparently one of these, and basically makes it a 4 year/$48m deal.

The $100m figure is for agents to throw around and help them earn recruits apparently, which sounds about right. :hmph:

It is POTENTIALLY a 7 year deal for $100m. In reality, it is a 4 year deal for $48m of which $20-something million is guaranteed.

Agents always quote the total value of the contract including any loyalty bonuses and stuff, too, for exactly the reasons you point out.
