Maybe this should be in the iPhone thread... it may also be operator error.

If you have someone's birthday in their contacts information it automatically adds it to the Calendar, which I thought was a nice feature.

But, what is annoying is it doesn't alert you on the day that it is someone in your contacts birthday. I guess they assume everyone looks at their calendar every day and would see it was someone's birthday.

Again, this might be operator error, and be a setting somewhere.

Oh, and Happy Birthday Gaz! (Although it was 2 days ago!)

Personal shoppers in Sainsbury's picking and packing their online orders and in the process clogging up the aisles and reducing available stock for physical in-store shoppers. Seems to defy the object of the online exercise to me. Can't they do it out of hours? What happened to dark stores? (did they see the light?)

It's the way the f*ckers shove past you that pisses me off. Kicked a few of their trollies out of the way recently.

It's not the Top Six though, is it? I thought it generally referred to the six biggest clubs.

Todays Gloss paint - about as good as using watercolours - 5 coats and still isn't doing the job - bring back the oil based planet killer stuff.

I don’t know. My missus got it from a stall in Grantham at the weekend and there’s no packaging. Just jelly.

Definitely a non-jelly person when it comes to pork pies. The texture makes me choke a bit. Morrisons seem to do a few different kinds of pork pie with no more aspic than necessary.

How long have you had it? Is it a temporary condition?

Deutsche Eagle 13-10-2020 02:45 PM

Two years now for me! Sort of got used to it!

Wayne Andrews is God 13-10-2020 02:53 PM

5 years for me, got me really down at first, I think mine is moderate rather than severe though. I had to tune it out by not focusing on it, if you listen out for it you get stuck in a feedback loop, I came to a place of acceptance and that made it quieter. It's psychological as much as physical.

It's a shame as you can't quite enjoy a quiet space exactly the same way again.

Years of blasting loud music whilst driving and then a gun shot in a bunker without ear defenders finally did it. I will never not enjoy loud music though...

Prince Phillip 13-10-2020 02:57 PM

I noticed mine for the first time since early this morning by reading the last few posts!

About a week in one ear. I sincerely hope it is temporary. It’s hugely annoying.

Maz 13-10-2020 04:00 PM

I have it permanently (in both ears).

Do therefore hope it's temporary.

Pink or blue noise will help you at night.

Funny you say that... I was experiencing the same problem last week.

Had to accept that it was going to take two coats of semi-gloss finish coat and stop trying to make one work.

I'll admit I'm new to the nuances of having an Ad Blocker on my PC, but today two of the sites I visit regularly have pop-ups telling me to turn off my Ad Blocker and have no way of closing the pop-up to continue, so I "pause" the Ad Blocker for that site, which allows me to continue, but ads seem to hit back with a vengeance on that site.

(And no, they are not porn sites... just The Weather Channel and CNN)

norwoodeagle 13-10-2020 05:47 PM

I’ve heard from a tinnitus sufferer friend that he’s benefitted greatly from having a hearing aid fitted. I don’t know if that will work for everyone but worth exploring.

Surely only if there's something wrong with your hearing?

Otherwise it would be rather counter-productive.

It's complex, and an ability to filter out some frequencies can be beneficial to some. Think of it as a graphic equaliser.

You can’t filter signals that come from inside your head! I agree with you on the graphic equaliser analogy, not least because everyone’s tinnitus is different and can be alleviated by different frequencies. For mine, as noted above, pink or blue noise is far more effective than red or white noise.

I wear 2, and it makes no difference to the tinnitus.

Bintang 14-10-2020 07:51 AM

There was an old thread on tinnitus that may have more info.

I suffer badly but I blank it out as much as possible. It's always there.
I did ask if a hearing aid would work for me, and was told they rarely help.

I live in a fairly noisy city, so sometimes appreciate the sound of passing traffic and the mosque out back. Drowns out the ringing in both ears.

When mine gets bad music helps. As long as there is some kind of noise it calms it down. Stress also seems to up the volume so taking a few seconds to try and relax also makes it bareable

Specifically the Lucas variety used in old UK cars to produce 10v from 12v just to power fuel and temp gauges.
I’ve tried making my own instead of using the bimetal type but seem to suffer from intermittent brownouts.

Costa del Sol they collect the bins through the night, therefore allowing the twats to make as much noise as they want and waking up whole communities.

My anal retentiveness is really annoying me and becoming debilitating... I think I'm really suffering from an OCD.

Biggest thing I'm noticing lately (and this came on after retiring) is everything has to be on a schedule or planned. Odd thing when the opposite should be true when you are not working. Maybe I'm over compensating and trying to justify my time.

Perhaps it's being exacerbated by all this COVID shit...

You can't blame the takeaways for jumping on this seemingly unstoppable bandwagon but the fact that the future involves everyone sitting on their fat arses, calling in everything they need to be delivered to their doorstep, really irks me.
And no, I have never used Amazon, Uber or Just Eat. Happy to be a luddite with legs that work.

Just Eat is ******* ****.

I can phone the pizza place for a pizza and collect it or have them deliver it and pay say £12 which the pizza place keeps. Alternatively I can order it through one of these things and pay £15, then have the pizza place pay them a subscription of £700 per year and 15% of their take, so that these parasites can get the order wrong, drop the box or waste so much time that the food is stone cold when it arrives. Oh, and I can use their **** website instead of speaking to a real person on the 'phone.

The Law of Averages.

Clearly USB plugs haven't been told about it.

Ifyou look there is a little symbol on one side of the USB, this should be facing up.

CT is south of the equator though, so this could be confusing.

They can shove it.

It’s the exact same people delivering your food whether you use just eat or not, and if the order is wrong it’s the takeaways fault not the website on which you selected what food you want?

But yes, I too find the delight of human contact to be an essential part of my takeaway ordering experience. Damn you, dehumanising internet.

there has to be some reason why I never seem to put the damn things in the right way up. It's reached the point where I'm just about to slot the thing in and think.. ahh no, you little bastard, you're not going to get me this time! And I quickly flip the thing over only to be foiled. :wallbash:

TBH I would be perfectly happy with the little shits being the wrong way up 50% of the time... but, as my original post stated, for some reason the Law of Averages doesn't apply to them.

Like buttered toast falling to the floor always lands buttered side down.

Which ever way you were going to put it in, just flip it over.

You're welcome.

What’s really odd is when you put it in, and it doesn’t fit, so you flip it over....and it still doesn’t fit.

Turns out the original way was right ! That a double flip to get it flipping thing working.
