There's lots of different designs that are meant to suit certain styles.

This is my pride and joy, and nothing other than Orval is fit to be poured into it.

Supposedly professional colleagues who don't understand workplace safety.

ie. Do not move backwards towards someone who says "hot behind" when walking behind you - they might be carrying a 20 litre pot of near boiling stock.

'Willow Smith opens up about being polyamorous.'

I don't know who Willow Smith is, not entirely sure what 'polyamorous' means and not sure why this is news.
It's just more pointless noise, isn't it?

Raising the village idiot who excels at stupid moments even though he will be turning 17 next month. Topping last week's, I'll give the brand new front door fitted the previous day a nice little pressure wash when washing the car, by buggering off out and leaving the house completely unlocked. Despite knowing that there had been a spate of break ins in the village overnight. Probably minor offences in the scheme of things but it was only six weeks since the idiot was brought home in a panda car having been found staggering through gardens in the early hours whilst off his head on Xanax blocks, so the buttons are certainly being pushed of late.

Just yesterday we had a tantrum because she'd made "everyone" banoffee pie and then "everyone" ate it.

We had a door slamming session because she as decided to reinvent herself as a school hating teen and she didn't like her mum pointing out that up until a year ago she loved school, her brother didn't help with his " ooh, you're such a rebel" comment.

Had I "I hate this place!" Outburst because she was asked to removed her dirty socks and top that she'd left on the sofa . And then a huge stomp and stamp sesh because no one had brought her water bottle down from the roof terrace where she had left it whilst " doing her yoga"

What did you say? A few years ago I was on their naughty step and all my comments were pre-moderated just because I was consistently rude about Stephen Bush.

Speaking of the Guardian, this article about the racist tyranny of apple pie is utterly ludicrous: https://www.theguardian.com/environm...icas-apple-pie

It was yet another look at me article by a journalist expecting a baby, and the rubbish she had purchased.

The Guardian has become very precious indeed.

Excessive packaging on things. Tassimo coffee pods, come in a plastic pod, inside a cardboard box, inside a foil bag (why? its not like the coffee needs to be kept fresh). Hersheys kisses (yes I know they are horrible), each tiny sweet has a paper thing, with a foil wrapper, inside a plastic bag. Theres more packaging than chocolate. So wasteful.

We had the opposite yesterday... ordered a new glass mixing bowl, and it came in a cardboard box with no packing, bubble wrap or even newspaper around it.

We were commenting how stupid that was considering it came by FedEx.

The reasoning behind a lot of this complicated packaging is, if you are not happy with the contents then you become overwhelmed with the thought of repackaging it and sending it back. If you do happen to repackage it you will probably make a right dogs bollocks of it, so the company will have an excuse to refuse you a refund or a replacement.

To be fair, I didn't break the original mixing bowl. Also to be fair to my wife, she didn't either... it just cracked while in use. It was exacerbated when put in the micro wave despite being allegedly microwave safe.

You are right, I do seem to be having a rough time with glass things at the moment! :embarass:

I just got back from the supermarket, and never cease to be amazed at how crap women are at shopping. I always thought this was their forte?

They can't steer the carts, oblivious to their surroundings, can't decide what they want, and as for going through the check out process... how come it is such a surprise they have to get their credit card out to pay?

Don't fret so. As you continue to age and start to shrivel up like a prune, , any cuts you may suffer will result in a trickle that requires a dab of cotten wool and a plaster. No stitches needed.

And that is the perhaps the most naive comment of the week. Seemingly simple plumbing/toilet jobs hardly ever turn out that way.

We have a similar 'ghost' issue with our water pump. It seems oversensitive so will turn on for any drip (I am not the drip - not sure if you are allowed to say drip these days without a different kind of oversensitivity appearing).

It doesn't over bother ME, but it bothers the wife.

It then annoys me that her ears seem to shoot up like a dog that hears a bark from half a mile away, and she drops everything to search out the drip, and, of course, if I know what is good for me - I have to be part of the search team.

PeterH 07-05-2021 07:06 AM

My contribution is the changing moods of the missus - in the following context.

She forcefully announces she is going to have a lazy day with a lot of it spent in bed. Meanwhile, I work, I go to the shops, I walk the dog, I do chores, I prepare brunch or lunch and serve it to her in bed.

She gets up at 5pm, and then to psychological make up for that she goes into overdrive on some fruitless jobs she decides are the most urgent. Maybe we have visitors coming in a couple of days - thus, she decides to spring clean all the bedrooms, and she is not happy with which beds are in which rooms.

Imagine the situation, I have been busy all day and settle down to relax at 8pm. At 8.15pm I am moving beds between rooms that have little manouvering room between them and the hallway. The double beds require a certain logical puzzle to be solved and the removal of the the wheels to fit through.

At times she has even doubled down on this and decided to put the beds back in their original spaces.

During the process, she often shouts at me if I am not following her 'obvious to me' wrong instructions on how to solve the puzzle.

The last time we did this particular dance, I asked her to make her mind up what beds she wanted where nad stick with it. She responded with the idea that she should get a new husband (victim). My comment that that idea was perfectly acceptable to me, put me in the doghouse for the rest of the evening.

It's not all days of wine and roses.

Brilliant.

Today, I turned off my Santiago fridge freezer. Defrost the little ice ready for a clean tomorrow. Our Santiago place is just a bed for a few nights for occasional visits and we will be out of it by the end of the year.

Served us better than Stav's cornettos. The freezer and the cooker are still working well after 18 years. The VHS (although we haven't used it for years) is 20 years old. My laptops all still work - even the one I bought in 1998. Albeit they can't keep up with the functionality that is required today. Use them to back up photos, and according to wcb, hide away my child porn images.

Having to turn over from Election Coverage because that stinking smirking Tory fop Laura Kuenssberg is delivering some gloating horrendously biased 'assessment' (more like a Tory Party Political Broadcast) on the state of the Labour Party.

So I end up watching 'Rip Off Britain' which turns out to be a show that features bleating whining wankers with shitty first-world problems such as having to use a mobile hotspot because their broadband was late being installed. Ah f*** off diddums.

It all went wrong with playmaker I reckon. Sweeper was fair enough. It was a different role and explained something new. Wingbacks the same. But Playmaker was the earliest unnecessary b/s commentator label I can think of. :)

It's the same life one way or the other. That's you're posting a (heavily filtered) picture on social media makes no ******* difference.

F*ck off with your new bullshit sporting terminology.

'Low block' is the one which annoys me, I think it's what we always used to refer to as 'sitting deep'?

Changing the subject, when writing a report for work in Microsoft Word, the damned thing STILL changes the font from Arial to ******* Calibri EVERY TIME I attempt to insert bullet points into the document. Why have the Microsoft corporation never fixed this bug which has been in the software for something like two decades now?? Is there a way you can fix it yourself? Drives me nuts.

There's a lot of old footballing adjectives that you rarely hear anymore. A full back was always cumbersome. A midfielder ( if he was Scottish) was canny. If he was English he was a midfield dynamo. A center half, if he was older than 25 was often described as craggy, rugged or uncompromising and of course wingers were nippy or wee. Unfortunately like many other things, English football is being infiltrated by American football and baseball terminology. Many commentators now refer to the second period, instead of half. Extra time has become over time. Subs are brought on to close the game out. We're informed that the inside left is playing the number 10 position, even though he has 127 on the back of his shirt. And someone playing behind the front line is a dummy number 9. Prepare one self where in the future the game will come to a halt every few minutes so those watching from home can sit through 5 minutes of adverts. Oh hang on, we have VAR for that.

Someone posted "nearly the ballgame" after Benteke's 1st Half fluffed header/great save on the matchday thread today.
Not sure if serious.

Wonder how long before we get Zaha rushed for 200 meters.

My Epson printer periodically bugs me to update its firmware.

Like a fool I usually end up doing it, and regret it every time.

Next time I go to print something my PC seems to have lost connection with the printer (usually when I'm in a hurry to print something) and have to go through the whole wi-fi/password/connection finder diagnostics before they talk to each other again.

Never quite sure after all this I ever seen any difference in anything... I mean it's a printer... what can they improve/update, other than making the ink run out quicker!

We've gone back to using a cable to connect to the damned printer. I just cant deal with the process of connecting it to the wifi using the inadequate buttons and cycling through endless and confusing menus.
Both the Mrs and I use laptops so walking to the printer and plugging in isn't so bad.

I’ve been doing exactly the same for a while. Every other technology seems to have come on leaps and bounds yet the printer is still the annoying, irritating little sh*t it was when you first started using one.

Hedgehog 09-05-2021 06:45 AM

I dug up an old CV of mine recently and it was obviously printed using dot matrix!

Used to think that was the bee's knees!

But, yes, I agree... generally speaking printer technology is in a bit of a rut.

When did Set Piece become ‘Set Play’ I noticed it around the time Pulis was managing us and it has taken over. Just sounds wrong to me.

I miss everything to do with player movement being called just simply transfers. ‘Recruitment’ makes me want to wretch everytime I hear it, why would anyone want to use a corporate term is beyond me, I guess they think it’s sounds smart.

Case in point:

‘Clearing his lines’ again makes me cringe, commentators say it about 10 times a match now, just seems like an affectation that makes they feel good. It’s it just a clearance or a hoof.

So very true. And the cartridges are SHITE.

A couple of years ago I splashed out on a laser printer and it seems to come from a different planet from those cheap inkjet ones that are such a pain in the chimps. The cartridges in inkjets last about 100 pages and they seem to screw up the paper, bleed and blot, jam and throw errors every five minutes, and woe betide you if the ink leaks - it's impossible to clean anything it touches. The cartridges that came with my laserjet ran out last week after just over two years.

One thing to know though is not to buy extra laserjet toner cartridges and store them for ages. Apparently they just decide that they're life-expired and refuse to be recognised when you put them in the printer.

Most of the problems I've seen with connecting to a wifi printer seem to be to do with Windoze. My Linux machines never drop the printer.

A lot of this new-fangled language seems to be to do with statistics, and analysis of games dependent almost entirely on statistics seems to be common especially from US authors, giving the impression that the writer has not actually watched the game but has downloaded a bunch of statistics and tried to infer from them what happened. Expected goals, assists, passes completed, percentage possession, number of touches in opponent's half, number of touches in opponent's penalty area, number of visits to opponent's toilet, sorry I mean bathroom, and so on.

One of the great things about football is surely its subjectivity?

The coverage of Football and the game itself take it all too seriously now, there is no fun or humour to the game. The US sensationalism approach from the UK commentators as aided this change. Rather than listen along to someone’s opinion or observations that interest or amuse, now they focus on the cadence of their voice as they say their planned phrases and impose their superior knowledge. Alot of people didnt like Motson, but he was the last of his breed, he was almost bemused by what he was seeing, and just enjoying the sport he loved naturally rather than imposing himself.

Sure this is unfair and she is a person not a thing but Nicola Sturgeon. The first time I saw/heard here I thought. Oh something different, logical, articulate and talking about the real subject rather than deflecting but I was so wrong. To the point that I can barely listen to her now. So disappointed but I guess I should know better. Just the same as all the rest of them. Anyway - moving on.

I know exactly what you mean. I thought she was different and honourable.

Wrong on both counts.

See also ‘centre-field’ instead of ‘midfield’

Believe me, she's even more annoying if you live in Scotland.
