Dear lord... |
Er, Merriman has been out all season.
Rivers has faded out as the season has gone, but I would prefer him to Manning in my team. The Chargers have a shit pass defense which costs them games, LT hasn't performed and they dont have top receivers that the top teams do. Rivers and Kaeding have done everything asked of them (although being a Kicker its difficult not to). IMHO, Manning is not an excellent QB, I would have him just behind Rivers in QB rankings. He and the Giants have relied on the Earth, Wind and Fire combination in most games. I'll find some stats to back myself up since I know everyone likes jumping on any opinion I have. |
1. Rivers 102.0 rating
10. Manning 90.1 rating Rivers 26-10 TD/INT 2.6 ratio Manning 20-8 TD/INT 2.5 ratio Rivers 63.9% completion Manning 61.1% completion Rivers 8.4ypa Manning 6.9ypa Rivers Total Yards 3169 Manning Total Yards 2747 New York Giants Number 1 in Rush offense San Diego Chargers Number 26 in Rush offense San Diego 9 in Pass O NYG 17 in Pass O |

Merriman, Kaeding and Rivers combined rings = ZERO Manning = ONE. |

I'm off to New York on Friday :lux:
Going for two press junkets. Never been before, it's supposed to be freezing right now. |
Well, I left out the important stat of all
Not that it has any relevance to the QB debate - Giants 11-2, Chargers 5-8 |

BTW - you do realise these nicknames you use for players are stupid and annoying, don't you?
And yes, I realise Matty Ice was his BC nickname but it still f*cking lame. |
Yep.
Although Phil Rivers would make a good ice candidate. Philice - Phyllis ;) |
And I dont think I have called Manning shit anywhere, I just dont think he is as good as made out.
There was some arse on NFL.com making a serious case for Eli Manning - MVP ahead of Kurt Warner, Cutler, Harrison (not Rodders), Brees and the various Running Backs. |
I'm not arguing with you anymore. Look at the schedule the Giants got through last season to win the Superbowl and then tell me what Rivers has achieved.
In the last 2 complete seasons, the Chargers have been 11-5 and 14-2, which is great when you play the Chiefs and Raiders twice a season, but have then bottled it in the play-offs, losing to the Pats last year but even worse, losing at HOME to them the year before. Funny, Manning Jnr managed to get past the Pats... oh hang on, the penny has dropped... ;) |

I think a more interesting debate would be: How good would the Titans have been with Vince Young?
Despite not playing great, they won the first match of the year prior to his enforced lay-off. He'd won with them the prior year, too. So, with the same personnel as Collins, would the Titans be staring at a #1 seed spot in the AFC? |
Rivers had a ruined ACL at the time of the playoffs, something that I respect him for despite him sulking a lot this season when things have gone wrong.
I suppose we can call Romo worse than Manning since he blows the playoffs when they get there? |

Oh, and he can't hold a snap on an extra point, either. :p |

Young would have the ball a lot more and using his legs. Johnson and White as well as the defense have got them the points. He has been a game manager which is exactly what they needed. Dont make mistakes, pass when you have to. Not to cause a bigger argument, but I would say that should be Mannings job for the Giants as well as you cant stop them 3 backs. And he doesn't have the greatest receivers in the world either without Burress. Smith, Toomer, Boss and Hixon have all proved they have ability though. And Derrick Ward catches a lot of passes as well. I'm interested in the Jets WR's who both have the hump with Favre at the minute and I believe are both out of contract at the end of the year (I'm sure Coles is and I think Cotchery is) |
And for the record, with the team they have down in Dallas, their performances post-season are completely unacceptable, including the QB.
