Dear lord...

Er, Merriman has been out all season.

Rivers has faded out as the season has gone, but I would prefer him to Manning in my team.

The Chargers have a shit pass defense which costs them games, LT hasn't performed and they dont have top receivers that the top teams do.

Rivers and Kaeding have done everything asked of them (although being a Kicker its difficult not to).

IMHO, Manning is not an excellent QB, I would have him just behind Rivers in QB rankings. He and the Giants have relied on the Earth, Wind and Fire combination in most games.

I'll find some stats to back myself up since I know everyone likes jumping on any opinion I have.

pauldrulez 10-12-2008 08:40 PM

1. Rivers 102.0 rating
10. Manning 90.1 rating

Rivers 26-10 TD/INT 2.6 ratio
Manning 20-8 TD/INT 2.5 ratio

Rivers 63.9% completion
Manning 61.1% completion

Rivers 8.4ypa
Manning 6.9ypa

Rivers Total Yards 3169
Manning Total Yards 2747

New York Giants Number 1 in Rush offense
San Diego Chargers Number 26 in Rush offense

San Diego 9 in Pass O
NYG 17 in Pass O

What about the previous seasons when Merriman has been fit?

Merriman, Kaeding and Rivers combined rings = ZERO

Manning = ONE.

Yes, but stats don't show that Rivers can't manage the game in clutch situations, do they?

I'm off to New York on Friday :lux:

Going for two press junkets. Never been before, it's supposed to be freezing right now.

pauldrulez 10-12-2008 08:52 PM

Well, I left out the important stat of all

Not that it has any relevance to the QB debate - Giants 11-2, Chargers 5-8

Go to the Jets game on Sunday :p

pauldrulez 10-12-2008 08:57 PM

For ••••s sake,

The Falcons are the main game on SKY again in Week 16 as well as this week

6 bloody weeks in a row.

6pm: Tampa Bay @ Atlanta
6pm: Buffalo @ NY Jets (red-button)
9pm: Pittsburgh @ Baltimore
9pm: Minnesota @ Arizona (red-button)
Sunday Night Football: NY Giants @ Dallas

Week 16

Saturday Night Football: Baltimore @ Dallas

6pm: Arizona @ New England (red-button)
9pm: Atlanta @ Minnesota
9pm: Philadelphia @ Washington (red-button)
Sunday Night Football: Carolina @ NY Giants
Monday Night Football: Green Bay @ Chicago
I like Mattyice as much as the next guy, but 6 weeks is taking the pee, especially if there is a chance of the playoffs going into the last game.
Quote:

The Chargers had eight consecutive games for weeks 6 through 14, although that span included a bye and three of the appearance were in primetime games rather than chosen by Sky.

The Saints only managed five games from week 4 and ending at Wembley, one of those was a primetime one too.

Here are the number of appearances for all games shown on TV (including interactive) here through week 16:

12 Pittsburgh Steelers
11 San Diego Chargers
10 Dallas Cowboys
10 Green Bay Packers
10 New Orleans Saints
10 New York Giants
10 Philadelphia Eagles
9 Indianapolis Colts
8 Chicago Bears
8 Cleveland Browns
8 Denver Broncos
8 New England Patriots
8 Tennessee Titans
7 Atlanta Falcons
7 Buffalo Bills
7 New York Jets
7 Tampa Bay Buccaneers
7 Washington Redskins
6 Arizona Cardinals
6 Carolina Panthers

6 Minnesota Vikings
5 Baltimore Ravens
5 Jacksonville Jaguars
5 Seattle Seahawks
4 Miami Dolphins
4 Oakland Raiders
4 San Francisco 49ers
3 Cincinnati Bengals
2 Detroit Lions
2 Houston Texans
2 Kansas City Chiefs
1 St Louis Rams

Also, so far every Chargers and Saints home game has been shown on Sky.
Edited: Those in bold are either shown too much or not shown enough.

NOT ENOUGH SINGLETARY :grrr:

I think I'd already mentioned that actually Paul, but you were still on your "Manning is shit" parade.

saxoneagle 10-12-2008 09:00 PM

BTW - you do realise these nicknames you use for players are stupid and annoying, don't you?

And yes, I realise Matty Ice was his BC nickname but it still f*cking lame.

pauldrulez 10-12-2008 09:03 PM

Yep.

Although Phil Rivers would make a good ice candidate.

Philice - Phyllis ;)

pauldrulez 10-12-2008 09:05 PM

And I dont think I have called Manning shit anywhere, I just dont think he is as good as made out.

There was some arse on NFL.com making a serious case for Eli Manning - MVP ahead of Kurt Warner, Cutler, Harrison (not Rodders), Brees and the various Running Backs.

saxoneagle 10-12-2008 09:16 PM

I'm not arguing with you anymore. Look at the schedule the Giants got through last season to win the Superbowl and then tell me what Rivers has achieved.

In the last 2 complete seasons, the Chargers have been 11-5 and 14-2, which is great when you play the Chiefs and Raiders twice a season, but have then bottled it in the play-offs, losing to the Pats last year but even worse, losing at HOME to them the year before.

Funny, Manning Jnr managed to get past the Pats... oh hang on, the penny has dropped... ;)

I'd say it is more important than anything else.

saxoneagle 10-12-2008 09:38 PM

I think a more interesting debate would be: How good would the Titans have been with Vince Young?

Despite not playing great, they won the first match of the year prior to his enforced lay-off. He'd won with them the prior year, too.

So, with the same personnel as Collins, would the Titans be staring at a #1 seed spot in the AFC?

pauldrulez 10-12-2008 09:38 PM

Rivers had a ruined ACL at the time of the playoffs, something that I respect him for despite him sulking a lot this season when things have gone wrong.

I suppose we can call Romo worse than Manning since he blows the playoffs when they get there?

Yes, we can. He is another good quarterback that can't manage a game. Look at the Pittsburgh match. Even though Witten said he ran the wrong route, with a clear lane, Romo could see he'd run the wrong route yet still threw the pass.

Oh, and he can't hold a snap on an extra point, either. :p

They would be worse, different QB, different playbook.

Young would have the ball a lot more and using his legs. Johnson and White as well as the defense have got them the points. He has been a game manager which is exactly what they needed.

Dont make mistakes, pass when you have to.

Not to cause a bigger argument, but I would say that should be Mannings job for the Giants as well as you cant stop them 3 backs. And he doesn't have the greatest receivers in the world either without Burress. Smith, Toomer, Boss and Hixon have all proved they have ability though. And Derrick Ward catches a lot of passes as well.

I'm interested in the Jets WR's who both have the hump with Favre at the minute and I believe are both out of contract at the end of the year (I'm sure Coles is and I think Cotchery is)

saxoneagle 10-12-2008 09:48 PM

And for the record, with the team they have down in Dallas, their performances post-season are completely unacceptable, including the QB.
