I love the fact that the 6-8 Chargers still have a chance to reach the play offs.

If they some how win in Tampa and Denver some how lose in Buffalo (Quite possible but the Bills are not exactly flying these days), then the Chargers can beat Denver on the final weekend and claim the AFC West at 8-8!! Quite ridiculous considering many teams with a winning record wont make it this year (In the AFC East especially).

Denver are hosting the Bills, not going to Buffalo. But anything is possible. I'd cry if the Chargers made it :D

Reality is that it's somewhat high but the voting was done around the time the Favre/Jets bandwagon was rolling. High profile wins over Tennessee and New England had many of us believing the Jets were the real deal.

I guess it makes up for last year when Leon Washington didn't make it (no one from the Jets did) when he's clearly the class act of the kick return fraternity

pauldrulez 17-12-2008 11:04 PM

The Jets probowlers were based on 3 games.

Tennessee, Arizona and New England. And the New England game had a team that conceded 18 points straight (or something like that) so how most of that D got in I have no idea.

Thomas Jones, yes.
Leon Washington, yes.
Kris Jenkins, maybe.
Nick Mangold, maybe.
Darrelle Revis, maybe.
Alan Faneca, NO.
Brett Favre, NO.

I wouldn't say Leon Washington is THE class act.

I really rate Ellis Hobbs as one of the top Returners in the league. Up there with the best. He only has one Return TD this year, but every game where he has returned, he has broken a biggish one. We always have at least one return that ends up in opposition territory.

Its a shame he is used so much at corner, as he doesn't get as much Special Teams work that the others do anymore. And he was supposed to get a break on returns this year with Wheatley (on IR), Wilhite (now starting CB) and Slater (fumble) sharing some of the returns. Hell, we have had Welker, Faulk and Morris back there returning at points to give him a break.

pauldrulez 17-12-2008 11:08 PM

Oh, and Johnnie Lee Higgins is an awesome returner.

Oakland Raiders - 3 of the best Special Teams players in the world. Lechler, Janikowski and Higgins.

Shame that their owner is an old bastard. They will never succeed until he is gone.

Example number one. JaMarcus Russell. He had a strong arm coming out of college. But not much else. I'm going to be honest and admit I didn't see much of him in college, but from what I have heard he wasn't great. And Brady Quinn would have been a better option.

But Al Davis got his own way. He is a senile old Paul Daniels lookalike, who wears black, has a face that came straight from the Black Hole and is a complete prat. Like accusing the Patriots of tampering with Moss, the League are now investigating him for slander against us.

Until he dies, the Raiders are slowly going to turn into the worst team in the NFL. They surely cant afford too many high draft picks, the cost of franchising Nnamdi Asomugha, Russell, McFadden etc.

saxoneagle 17-12-2008 11:18 PM

Doesn't Hobbs still have the highest average yards per kick-off return this season? He did up until a couple of weeks ago and with a TD recently that must only have got better.

pauldrulez 17-12-2008 11:38 PM

He is 3rd in consistent returners. Although he has 20 more returns than 1st who is Manning.

So really, he is 2nd behind McKelvin who had a 100yarder called off last week (bullshit call ;)) Which would have put him way ahead.

I do like Hobbs, but only as a Number 2 Corner/Returner.

Its no wonder our Special Teams keep allowing big runs as well, our 10 chasers/gunners are all now taking snaps bar 4 IIRC. Talk about tiring in a shootout

Early weather report Saxon.

25-30 degrees fahrenheit. Heavy Snow forecast for Friday Night onwards.

Lovely.

Oh, and I recommend that you listen to the PFW podcast today Saxon. I take part in it hugely with emails and Christmas presents from me and an Irish guy called Cormac who has gone over there for the match.

Listen to it once, you are hooked for life.

pauldrulez 17-12-2008 11:43 PM

We are first in team returns though.

Another first to add to the rest of the stats from last week :)

Interesting chat about how the outcome of the San Diego/Tampa Bay game could affect the result of the Buffalo/Denver game.

And I'd like to thank you for trading us a white elephant

AddiscombeEagle 18-12-2008 12:55 PM

How good is this?

I am on a Ravens message board and am a member of the UK fan group.

Some US based raven fans have sent over a “care” package over to the UK based fans consisting of Shirts and other merchandise. This is now going to be shared amongst the UK fans.

Very friendly and impressive.

Think I alluded to that last year, where he certainly wasn't playing to the level of previous years. I think he's definitely looking towards his life after the NFL.

Very impressive, no question about it. :p

According to the lines on the Office Pools site I was bang on with my picks on the lines with the Baltimore-Dallas and Green Bay-Chicago games. :lux:

Can't remember what they opened at. Sadly I tend to listen to podcasts when I'm driving and obviously then I can't write things down.

Lovely.

I think the Patriots-Cardinals line is only going in one direction. Pity the Cards if they have to travel to NY in round 2 (if they get that far).

Massive weekend this time around. So many teams with so much to play for. Fingers crossed that the Cowboys can keep it going to end up with a one of match in Philly. But I really do think the Skins will do us a favour this weekend by beating the Eagles... But first things first, we have to beat the Ravens which is going to be a very tough match. Hoping that Barber can play more this week but he is still down as a match day decision so here's hoping ... Choice is an able replacement but wonder how much he can really do before he has plays designed to combat him ...

Correct.

The prize is I don't say anything mean about you in the BBS Awards if I ever get around to casting my votes. ;)

I think the Raven’s have got big injury problems in the secondary, so that has to make the Cowboys favourites if they weren’t overwhelmingly anyway.

Let’s be honest, the Ravens have punched above their weight this year anyway, so the play offs would be a massive bonus.

Today's quiz question (don't just google it!):

Which is the only team in the NFL to never have worn a white uniform at home?
