Survived the session. Our best period down under so far. Bedtime for me and I look forward to waking up and finding out we have survived the day :D

Root and Malan going ok. 51/46
|
We're not going to win or even get a draw out of this, but it is worth remembering that crazy first test about 10 years or so years ago now.
Stranger things have happened. |
Joe Root is my old sports teachers son in law. He’s cricket mad and his daughter brings home the future England captain as a boyfriend.
|
Good to wake up and see some fight
|
Yes, a dash of spunk.
|
Wondering if some thing is wrong with Hazelwood. Only bowled 8 all day and everyone else seems to be getting a trundle except him. Still on the field though.

These Aussie tv commentators are absolutely dreadful, they have nothing of interest to say and just talk nonsense amongst themselves. There were some truely great Aussie commentators in years gone by, the current crop should hang their heads in shame :D

Fantastic reply. Well done England :lux:
|
Great partnership from Malan/Root so far, need to keep it up tomorrow, knowing England we could still easily collapse to 300 all out lol. But a great effort after a dismal first couple of days.
|
I still think the game is lost, but wouldn't it be nice if we got a 150-200 run lead and then made them bat on the final day?
|
I do agree, game is kinda lost but put up 250 to chase (no laughter please) and bowl in the right areas we may give a fight back.
Ok I will stop smoking that wacky backy But in all honesty that is some good batting today by Root and Malan |
Decided to get an early night. That did mean I naturally woke at 4:30 and had a decent nights kip and saw 2 hours of good cricket!
The new ball tomorrow is going to be so important. These 2 need to get through to the new ball first. That’ll tell us a lot about how far we can take this game. Ideally you want these 2 to bat the first hour and a half tomorrow and it might just give us a fighters chance of at least making it difficult for Australia. |
We need to score 450-500 to make it slightly interesting. 500 would leave them 222 behind.
|
Well i was not expecting to wake up to that score. Played Root and Malan
|
Bruised ribs for Warner? Nasty

Nice work. Good to see us putting up a fight. Hopefully augurs well for the rest of the series. Just need our openers to post a score or two
|
Well done. Day 3 is always the best day to bat in a test match, but not everyone takes advantage of it.
If you get 500 plus and set us 250 to win, it might get interesting on the last day and Leech might be a lot harder to put away. |
A very pleasant surprise to wake up to! Fantastic to see us show some fight. Looking forward to staying up for a few hours tonight and watching the first session.
|
Ah, some fight from the batsman (except the openers obvs)
Good stuff. See the new ball off without too much damage tomorrow, Buttler and Stokes pummel a few and who knows, maybe a lead of 200? Unlikely but you never know. |

Bastards have only gone and given us hope the bastards

Made me laugh listening to Warne and I think it was Hussey this morning sweating on England going well past their total. Have they not seen us this last couple of years and our fragility beyond one decent partnership in an innings, nearer a whole test if I was being honest. Either the Aussies aren't quite so confident in their side or they're just downplaying any lead up to a bit of top class early doors crowing. No chance will get anything more than lead of a 100 I'd imagine
|
Sunshine and a chance of showers in the early afternoon the current weather forecast for Brisbane on Sunday!

Great fightback. Pity about the 278 first innings lead. It is a huge unknown how the Aussies would have fared with the Day 1 conditions, but we are where we are.
Shows we can bat with the right application, but the nagging fear is th next collapse is just around the corner. Bat out Day 4, set them 200+ and we have game on (of sorts). I can dream, but it is not out of the question. Good to see us making a bit of a game of it. Outplayed so far, but maybe with better tactical awareness (never really Joe's strong point) and team selection there is a ray of light. But where are the terrestrial highlights??? Pathetic from the TV companies. |

The important thing is to get through the first 90 minutes tomorrow. if we could get through that without losing a wicket, and even a small lead, we can then start putting them under some pressure. |

Just making them bat again would be a bloody good effort! Even if we set them 100-150 to win and get them 4 or 5 down I would be happy. At least we will have shown some fight and can take confidence into the 2nd test.

To be honest, making them chase anything around 150 is a pretty good effort having been bowled out for 147 on day one. Will give them some belief if nothing else. BBC iplayer have highlights |
Agnew says the draw’s out of the equation but it’s not is it? Unlikely but possible.
|
With the next test back to back, their bowlers going into to the second test having actually used some energy to get us out, especially if Hazlewood is injured, is important. Our two best bowlers fresh as well.

Still think we will lose, but it’s nice to see a bit of fight and make the Aussies work a bit.
|
Iplayer have highlights but not until 17:00 each day :(
|
Is it midnight again for starting or are they still making up time? Quite fancy watching the first hour or so
|
11:30 start again.
|
Really good effort from Malan and Root, but I think they'll have to do a lot more
batting tomorrow, because I just don't trust the rest of the batting to not collapse in a heap. But in saying that, I fully expected the game to be over by now, so fair play. |
Malan spoke really well after. Love him to kick on big.
|
Fell asleep listening to the Ashes in bed on the radio last night.
Was like being a kid again. |

Malan came across as a right ****. Hope he gets castled first ball. |
Warner’s bruised ribs sounds like a really shit takeaway.
Having bruised mine a couple of years back, sneezing’s a nightmare so hope we pepper the twat if he bats second innings. |

According to his Wiki page, one of Malan’s nicknames is Sultan Of Bigitude.

Think the big selection issue we have is that we have no number 8 apart from Woakes, who is a great bowler at home, but not so great away. But we're forced to select him, as otherwise our tail is incredibly long. It's why I think Bess has to come into the equation, lets be honest we don't have a test quality spinner at the moment, Bess, Leach, Rashid, they are all pretty average county championship bowlers, but at least Bess could bat 8 and we could select our best three seamers.

Broad, Anderson, Wood, Robinson and Woakes, with Root to twirl a few. Heavy on bowlers but Woakes can bat and Robinson can hold his own. |

Fvcking rubbish Malan. Awful shot
|
**** sake. Such a soft wicket to give away.
|
Blame Art
|
Here comes the collapse
|
Start of the collapse…?
|
That Green looks about 13.
|
I’m going to stick my neck out and say Stokes will go ‘big’, ish. 50 plus.
Probably another Art special |

Nighty night
Hopeless |
Hahaha both gone within half an hour. Outstanding.
|
Root gone, I'm going to bed
|
That’s me done. Don’t know why I bother. It really is the hope that kills you.
Will do well to make them bat again now. |
Normal service resumed. Bed time.

They haven’t even threatened this morning. Haven’t beaten the bat once or caused any problems. Just literally given them 2 of the softest wickets.
******* useless ***** |
Dreadful start
|
I really hoped they’d both go on to get centuries and give us something to bowl at. I should’ve known better.

Pope gone

It's just so inevitable isn't it. That's what's so frustrating. Deep down we all knew this would happen.
|
You gotta laugh. Saves a late night.
|
Giving it away, be lucky to even put them back in to bat at this rate
|
What’s Tufnell doing advising batsmen?
Fvck off mate you were asleep in the dressing room after smoking weed |
