Commuting to W Croydon by train and tram and seeing the amount of tenants/owners who fly-tip over their back garden fences onto Railtrack/Croydon Tram embankments/property, it's disgusting. I'm assuming like local authorities/Housing Associations they don't bother trying to trace the culprits as it costs too much and if necessary it'll just be cleared (or left for eternity).

Most A roads/motorways also have seas of litter just chucked from vehicles too.
We really are the fly-tipping, littering scumbag kings of Europe. Just what is wrong with people? I'm assuming Keep Britain Tidy have waved the white flag and given up.

We have a small estate in my town that is mainly inhabited by Romanys, there have been inter family murders etc...anyway, behind the estate is a large slope down to a river, which is also right next to a primary schools playground.

This is used as a rubbish chute for everything from old washing machines and fridges that have been stripped of parts, to household and human waste. They also have a system of stripping plastic from wires by lighting a huge bonfire at least once a week which produces plumes of black, toxic smoke and on many occasions, ignites the rubbish avalanche below, endangering their own homes and the school.

Nothing is done by the police, the town hall and the fire brigade rarely attend due to threats of violence. The Andaluz has absolutely no respect for their surroundings, litter and dump rubbish all around the countryside and get rather nasty when confronted.

On that subject. The changing of the name of Little
black Boy lane to La Rose lane and the subsequent defacing of La Rose lane sign. Times move on and I think LaRose, as a street name, is a great positive change. The fact that someone bothered to deface and go to the trouble of buying a big replacement sign in the old name shows that there is still a few wankers out there and is exactly why the sign should be changed.

Terrace Bickle 01-02-2023 12:09 PM

TBF It was on the Beeb a lot of residents (all races) didn't want the name changed.

west country boy 01-02-2023 12:16 PM

Also, the old name was still on the new street sign (as was the case with Mandela Street, formerly Selous Street, when I lived in Camden a billion years ago) . Also x2, no one seems to know the origin of the original name.

I have to always keep this in mind when I criticise the scumbags here in Chile.

I still honestly think you chaps would explode if you see the filth we see everyday here. Authorities and individuals provide bins etc. here and people leave their rubbish a couple of metres away.

If fly tippers are caught on camera and interviewed by police and/or council officials, it becomes a sweary mary session with it being everyone else's fault except the scumbag.

PeterH 01-02-2023 01:05 PM

I think there is a new system of the three Rs to repalce what we learnt at school.

Rights, Respect, Responsibilities. A certain underclass of society want all the Rights, but without showing any Respect for the lives of other people or any societal or even personal or family Responsibility.

This is in all areas. Whether it be groups of fans acting yobbishly at football - i.e. our own fans deciding to stand where we like at away games and bullying others out of their seats, or whether it be someone just deciding that the disposal of a mattress, sofa, or fridge is something they can't be arsed to deal with. Throw in dreadful road users, twats that throw their fast food packaging out of the window, forecourt road rage, or some of the suipermarket and other shite that went on during the pandemic. TBF the leaders are hardly setting a good example.

It can only come down to us regular people just living our own lives and trying to do things the right way, and hope we are treated as well as we treat others. Confronting these scummers is only likely to turn out badly eventually. They have a predisposition to be scumbags, that can only result in one thing. However satisfying it might be to hand someone back their discarded Big Mac box, those little victories aren't going to learn them, and one day a 'gangster chav' is going to pull a knife, gun or use their car as a lethal weapon because you have disrespected them.

I get involved in rows here, and I have stood up to nuisance criminals almost in a Crocodile Dundee way (without the big knife), and had knives waved at me. The drugged up teenagers here are waving pistols about now, and in some cases are killing people even after they have handed over their property quickly and celebrating their 'gangster' behaviour on social media (yep, soon to be caught generation idiots). As my wife says, a hero husband is not much use to anyone in a box. Especially when the captured crimbos are part of a group and no-one can tell who pulled the trigger, and we have to respect their rights.

I ignore that, but then when it is time for the meeting to start there is no ‘such and such started the meeting’ notification so I often forget and end up joining late. Annoying

Where i grew up, when the travellers turned up there was always chaos. Increase in local robberies, crap strewn everywhere. During the 80s there were quite a few cases of old people being robbed in their houses and being badly injured and sometimes murdered in the process. Not saying that travellers were involved, but they were the ones convicted. And when they fought amongst each other, well, different league completely - the guards didn't want to get involved - way too dangerous and risky.

I know that sounds awful, but thats what happened.

Interesting that you call them "travellers".

They were always known as pikeys and calling them travellers kind of helped to sanitise their reputation.

Same as Bristol Black Boy Hill....named after a local pub in 1600s.

There are a few reasons for pubs of that era being called the Black Boy. It was a nickname of King JamesII. Related to his connection to the Slave Trade. There are other explanations if you check Google.

Pub names and road names are often related.

Records held by Haringey show it is named after a pub in the late 1600s.
What the issue is was why was the name Black Boy used by the pub. This is unclear but Charles II was nicknamed the Black Boy by his mother. He died in 1685 Therefore one view is the origin of the name has nothing to do with slavery or race. James I is behind for instance the Red Lion name for pubs. White Lion is Edward IV origin. Let alone Kings Head named pubs. Naming pubs after royalty or royal connections is very common.

This post reminded me that my Ma used to used to call some of the ‘travellers’ gypsies (very few tbh) but mostly she would term them didicoys. It’s a word that exists because I checked it but not one I have heard used by anyone else. The distinction being (as per the dictionary) that gypsies were the true Romany ones and tended to be good to deal with but the diddicoys were most definitely not. Would often trigger a bit of a rant about how they were scavengers that took whatever they saw/wanted, destroyed the area they lived in and then moved on. I.e with no respect for laws or the area.

We live about half a mile from the field that has held one of the older gypsy horse fairs in the country (I am told) and so every year we get an influx of the community. It’s not that big a field but we see horse carts and transporters arriving. Every year the housebreaking levels spike (local police explained while looking at our CCTV). This is likely true of any event but this is relatively small affair so ma6be my Ma had it right :) As a result of the Fair there are a lot of gypsies/whatever that have settled into houses around here and their families seem to own a fair amount of land too.

LN1 02-02-2023 11:35 AM

My dad's side of the family was from South Yorkshire and heard the word 'Diddicoy' used many times years ago as a kid.

El Aguila 02-02-2023 11:50 AM

There was a children's book and a series, in the 70s, called Diddakoi - it's a Romany term for mixed blood.

My mother used to use it as well.

That's interesting. Funnily enough we lived in South Yorkshire and now we live between Leeds and Wakefield but have never noticed it used up here at all.

My mum was from South Norwood and we lived in Leicestershire later but other than visiting us I don't think she ever spent time up here. I really don't ever remember anyone but my parents ever use the word.

TBH the most common label given up here seems to be Gypo's but that's always preceded by a 7 letter word beginning with F and said with feeling :) around the time of the fair. The local gypsies say the same thing from what I can tell :) There aren't that many around but they often have a horse in their garden or tethered up on the verge and see them in those 2 wheeled buggy things. Never spotted Jonjo and his Dad round here mind.

Yeah i.e. travellers but not true Romany. I assume your mum was from croydon area (South London) although it could be a term my mum picked up from the gypsies that knocked on the door from what you say? Back in the day there would be an old gypsy woman that would knock on the door selling lucky heather and pegs. My Nan would always invite her in for a cuppa and a natter and always bought something and my Mum did the same, but only with what she took to be real romany types. Quite how she knew I don't know and she was probably a grifter from Neesden for all I know but she came every year when they were in town. Maybe it was the one that made that curse at Selhurst Park!

Surely normal people look at the Forums page and then New Posts?

Or people who use the Tapatalk App don't have such niceties as seeing peoples birthdays.

stange555 02-02-2023 07:13 PM

Youths. Well, specifically the little group of scrotes that hang around my local shopping parade, early evening, going on the rampage in my local Coop.

Twice now the shop has had to close because the Police have (apparently) declined to attend and the staff are scared. Madness. They were at it last night, although I missed the rampaging bit as I was in the pub, saw the aftermath though. I've suggested starting up a posse....

Joe85 02-02-2023 07:17 PM

People who claim they "always say it like it is".

No, you don't. You ****.

Tried that once but it wouldn't stick to my phone

This reminds me of Daniel Craig's quote from Glass Onion, when he says. it is dangerous thing to mistake, speaking without thought as speaking the truth (or something like that)

I bet if you say it like it is and call that person a name, that person would take offence :)

sunshine lucas 02-02-2023 08:23 PM

The McDonalds advert with Yello’s ‘OhYeah’ track.
Particularly awful

west country boy 02-02-2023 08:44 PM

Great tune though. Used in The Secret of My Success and another 80s film I can’t remember iirc.

Deffo… but it’s a bit tainted now with the bladdy eyebrow dancing on the ad… Still love a bit of Yello tho.

west country boy 02-02-2023 09:02 PM

Haven’t seen the ad so my memories are untainted. Was the other film Ferris Bueller or some other John Hughes film?

Phone zombies and people with no spatial awareness. I would tell them to F*** O** but they would probably crash into someone on the way!

PeterH 03-02-2023 04:16 AM

Wouldn't that be extra satisfying.

PeterH 03-02-2023 04:21 AM

I will labour this point.

Maz's worming, backed by wcb, doesn't cut it. Two decades and 171k posts, you have to be more observant than that when you eat, sleep, and shit on this site.

It was definitely used in Ferris Bueller.

west country boy 03-02-2023 09:07 AM

Ta.

pallet 03-02-2023 09:17 AM

Phone zombies
The McDonald's ad
Woke
Gangs of youths who seem to be invisible to the Police
Energy prices
Food prices
Life is all a bit crap right now

Pidster 03-02-2023 09:57 AM

My fault, allowing Mrs P access to my ITunes.

Cheers - probably a bit young for me, now. I wonder how she grew up.

Assuming you meant Kizzy rather than Miriam, it seems as if she never appeared in anything else unless she changed her name from Vanessa Furst.

PeterH 03-02-2023 12:24 PM

BBC Title LIVE....Liverpool, Man Utd & Man City news conferences

Summary Premier League build-up and 15 news conferences.

But apparantly only those three clubs are worth tuning in for.

Isle of Wight 03-02-2023 12:37 PM

EVRI. My god their customer service is not existant. Useless website, Chat bots and phone bots with no people. Absolutely the worst. I will also throw in the customs hoops to jump through for simply sending a gift to Solivinia. What a wonderful benefit Brexit has turned out to be.

west country boy 03-02-2023 12:44 PM

Sorry for going a bit POLITICAL CORRECTNESS GAWN MAD, but shouldn't rozzers concentrate on stopping and solving crime?: https://twitter.com/RichardWLewis/st...96473083793409

WLYWLYAWYPWF 03-02-2023 09:02 PM

That McDonald's advert. I can't find the remote quickly enough.

I really hope the young lady in the light pink suit chokes on her McNuggets. Not fatally of course, but just enough.

in-exile 03-02-2023 09:29 PM

McDonald's paper straws .... after a few seconds it's like trying to suck a milkshake through a Tampax!

Why would anyone want to suck milkshake through a tampax in the first place?

:D

It seems to have created a brand new country though.
