There are a few teams who won the division in Week 11. That's the current record and yes, Week 10 is the earliest the Pats can do it.

'85 Bears was one I believe and just three seasons ago PHilly won NFC East at a canter.

Trting to recall how quick the BEars won their div last year

Strathclyde Eagle 17-10-2007 07:38 AM

Think it was quite late - wasn't that OT game against Tampa something to do with them clinching?

Grim Reaper 17-10-2007 08:01 AM

WEll, as they were 13-3 and the Giants made the play offs on 8-8 I'm guessing either the VIkes or Pack were 8-8 or worse. As the Pack were 4-8 at one stage then surely CHi Town won the div quite early (but maybe not Wk 11)

Grim Reaper 17-10-2007 08:01 AM

How about this

The Dolphins go 0-16 the season someone matches their perfect unbeaten year!!

Wonder what the odds would be on that

(Note to self: Buy throwbacks in future.)

Interesting move. He'd obviously reached a comfort zone with Miami and a second pick should be exciting... except we've drafted so badly in recent years that it'll probably be wasted on a bust.

0-16 looks ever more possible.

GOD DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I need a new shirt for Wembley now.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH

Next shirts on my list:

Bob Kuechenberg
Jim Jenson (just CRASH written on the back)
Kim Bokamper
Larry Little

Can't go wrong with that

Seriously, you don't think I've thought about that?

Think the odds on that could get quite short. I think the only possible bump in the road for the Pats now might be Indy on the road, but that's another score for them to settle and they won't be short on motivation there.

I know Ben, I don't trust the Fins brain trust with a second round pick either. At least Norv Turner is still coaching the Chargers, so there's more chance of it being a higher pick.

On the whole as much as I like Chambers I think it's a good trade, depending on who we pick.

Here's a question for everyone: Is LaDanian Tomlinson a better passer than any QB Chambers even had throwing to him while he was a Dolphin?

Incidentally I don't know how some pundits rate us above St. Louis. They're ravished by injuries, we've only had that problem at safety.

elliott 17-10-2007 01:30 PM

In fairness we've been struggling at DT and LB too.

Strathclyde Eagle 17-10-2007 01:40 PM

Only Crowder's out at LB though now? His injury and Thomas's injury didn't overlap except for the second half of the Raiders game.

It's becoming a Dolphins love-in this thread :)

Strathclyde Eagle 17-10-2007 07:38 PM

What's wrong with that? ;)

"Let's hear it for Gary O'Reilly!"

Grim Reaper 17-10-2007 10:22 PM

That's the 2nd decent thing to do with Miami I've seen (the other being their 2 point conversion v the Jets to win me a bet)

.

Of course, it might not be NE that does - Indy could still be the 16-0 team.

I'll wait until after this week as -1600 isn't a worthwhile bet on NE.

I'll stick on a lazy $20 and keep doing New Eng/Colts doubles with Miami's opponents and then just doubles with the winner of INdy v Pats and keep putting the money. Could be a nice sum getting accumulated by Wk 17 even at low odds.

I hate the FISH!

Go the Pats:moo:

Strathclyde Eagle 17-10-2007 11:10 PM

Dave, who's your favourite ever Patriot?

Brady, Moss, Bruschi, Vinatieri?

Or Grogan, Morgan, Tippett?

Please ask "who?". :D

Bonus points if your actual answer is Rich Camarillo, and someone can find online footage of his 62 yard punt in Super Bowl XX that bounced and rolled for about thirty yards on the Superdome Astroturf.

Grim Reaper 18-10-2007 06:58 AM

No Patriot will remember SB XX - it's been erased from their memory!

Strathclyde, Dave might surprise you and say John Smith is his favourite Pat and, as a Brit in that league, was his reason for following New England.

You never know.

I'm still betting on - 'WHO?' being the answer though.

As a Dolphins distraction, who is everyone's favourite ever NFL player?

Think mine still is Brian Bosworth for sheer comedy value.

Snowplough!

One of my earliest American Football memories was John Smith being on the sideline of a Jets-Patriots game in 1985 with the score tied 13-each at the end of regulation. At that point in time the Patriots had never won an overtime game in the regular season in their history.

Deion Sanders, who I liked from an article I read when he was still at Florida State. In the article he was quoted about some algebra/academics issue he had, and said something along the lines of "Why do I need to know that X+Y=Z? I don't need to know that when I'm counting my money." I hated algebra at school so that comment made him instantly popular to me. :D

Ran his mouth, but backed it up and did it in the biggest spots, justifying the Prime Time nickname.

Possibly the greatest returner pre-Hester as well. Shameful lack of clips of his available online. One of his returns against the Giants on a Monday night was out of this world.

On a non American Football playing side it is also worth noting:
a) He was a decent enough baseball player. Hit over .500 in the 1992 World Series (don't get me started on why he was taken out of game 6 of that series in the bottom of the ninth with the game tied).
b) He has enormous ears, which are always good comedy value when he appears on the NFL Network.

Incidentally Emmitt Smith is working his way up my list. I've been looking out on YouTube for a clip of him butchering a famous Jim Valvano quote which is apparently hysterical. No luck yet though.

Think I might have to put together a team of non-Dolphin favourites for Madden purposes.

nookiebear 18-10-2007 02:17 PM

Always liked Ickey Woods as well because of his Ickey Shuffle as well

Strathclyde Eagle 18-10-2007 06:23 PM

I'd make Woods starting FB of a cult heroes Madden team.
