Getting rid of the Routemaster 'buses actually made it materially more difficult to get around London. You could jump on and off anywhere as long as they weren't going faster than jogging pace, which was usually. You could bounce off one in the middle of Oxford Street and onto another and if you got on the wrong one it wasn't too much of a problem because you could just jump off again. Same applies if a bunch of Millwall get on and start giving it large. Get on the wrong 'bus nowadays and you can be in Stoke Newington before you have a chance to do anything about it.

Thats due to insurance and liability, if the bus is hit or you slip and fall getting on or injure yourself or any occupant of the bus is injured then you can be liable.

If a bus driver allows someone to get onto the bus anywhere but at a designated stopping area then he can have disciplinary measures and could also face a fine in the case of any incodent occurring.

I'm sure I read once about someone just missing the bus / not being let on, so as the bus was in traffic anyway, he walked in the road in front of the bus all the way to the next stop where the bus driver had to let him on. I think it was in Tooting or somewhere like that, so it wasn't miles between the stops.

Wife's sister lives there. I have been to BA about ten times, but we haven't been together for maybe 10 years.

Nice parks, culture, coffee/tea houses, good restaurants, meat, tango, street markets. A bit different (and better) to what Santiago offers.

I always found the people to be quite nice as well. There are some arrogant twats around, but less so than Brasil for sure.

The quality of experience had declined. The first few times, the place was truly terrific. Maybe, it was because we had seen a lot of it, so they experience wasn't as brilliant, but we certainly felt a decline - some of the gloss had gone. We just like avoiding most of the tourist traps, and walking from cafe to cafe, from park to park etc.. Finding hidden gems like churches that no one visits or a local restaurant off the tourist trail. Speaking Spanish and having a Chilean wife helps.

Going out on the Rio Plata to Tigre is a real treat as well.
