I think we have tried to do that with Mcnabb but at the end of the day he just isn't good enough, you put someone like Rodgers, Favre or Manning behind centre in Philly and we'd be in the Superbowl year in year out.

To explain this, I think he is a top 15 QB. I used to think he was better than Romo, now I think they are pretty much the same player but Romo has got time to improve. Yet, they were considered pretty widely apart by the pundits at times. I still think he is overrated because he is black. There is no other black QB who relies on being a passer than having the athletic part to them.

I'm also going on the fact that you always hear him being described as a 2nd tier QB, so close to elite, etc.

I think he's 3rd level at best.

Elite: Brady, Brees, Manning, Roethlisberger (2 SBs don't lie)
Nearly there: Rivers, Rodgers (Favre is this tier as well, but he's sliding the opposite direction)
3rd: Romo, Schaub, Cutler, Ryan, Flacco, McNabb etc

It'd be interesting to do a QB ranking thing like we had last year. I think there is a top 6 who are pretty well clear from the rest now rather than the jumbled mess we had last year.

Dunno about Favre in big games (or Peyton) ;), but you stick one of the top 6 in there with all the weapons, you'd be the best team in the NFC by a distance. I think if you gave most QBs them weapons you'd find yourself in a much better position than you are.

Personally i'd be happy to see McNabb go, he's either very good or pretty bad. If he's under pressure he tends to be pretty bad, even if he does give himself time by scrambling.

Correct me if i'm wrong (i'm waiting...) :), but wasn't Kolb your first pick in the 07 draft.

He's now entering his 4th year. It's time to hand the reins over.

Rodgers had 2 or 3 years learning and watching behind Favre, and look how he has started.

It's only 2 games, but Kolb showed enough to become a threat to McNabb and the fans took to him.

Swanny32 18-03-2010 03:04 PM

Roethlisberger is not an elite QB......he's in the second tier at best.

jazman 18-03-2010 03:28 PM

There is something about Big Ben as women have been trying to testify ... :D

But in honesty, I think he is different from the normal QB, big and bulky and not as athletic as most. A QB that takes an awful lot of hits in a season, just like Aaron Rodgers ...

Swanny32 18-03-2010 03:48 PM

Doesn't make him good though Jaz, I can appreciate that he has two SB rings but at the end of the day he's not exactly the most consistent, and boy does his pump faking annoy me.

I think the Steelers will be a threat again in the new season. I can't see them having another season like last year but I did enjoy them playing like they were considering all their smack talk about back to back titles ... ;)

I really do think two SB rings makes a QB an elite no matter what people say. The QB is arguably a teams most important player.

Swanny32 18-03-2010 05:08 PM

Willie Parker to meet with St Louis tomorrow, could be a good pick up for them.

pauldrulez 18-03-2010 06:23 PM

I put Ben up there because he has the rings. Plus this year, he became a proper passer as the Stoolers became a passing team with an average defense :)

If Parker stays healthy, he could spell SJax in St. Louis.

I don't think you are elite without the ring IMO.

That didn't stop Rush Limbaugh. Oh, hang on a minute...

Sounds like pretty much the same argument that Limbaugh made actually.

In regard to the most important stat, in arguably the toughest division in the NFL, McNabb has at least a 64% winning record (92-49-1 overall). That's pretty impressive.

jazman 18-03-2010 07:56 PM

Thanks to Strathers I'm really enjoying the PTI podcasts, especially as I have expanded into other US sports ...

Paul bringing the racist card to the table reminds me that there is quite an argument going on in baseball at the moment. Not sure it is that made the statement but the fact that someone can pick up a player from teh Dominican Republic or the like for measly amount compared to a big prospect from the States or somewhere ....

Strathclyde Eagle 18-03-2010 07:59 PM

Ah, Torii Hunter's recent comments...

jazman 18-03-2010 08:07 PM

Who is?

Strathclyde Eagle 18-03-2010 08:52 PM

He's the guy who called Latin American players imposters.

jazman 18-03-2010 08:54 PM

Sorry to be off topic here, but who is he? A coach, former player or just somebody in the media?

SteveyHawking 18-03-2010 09:36 PM

More movement from the Eagles! Now released DE Darren Howard and WR Kevin Curtis. No big loss really for a rotation player and someone who's been unfortunate with injuries.

pauldrulez 18-03-2010 10:03 PM

Come on Bill, bring in Curtis. That's a guy i'd like in NE.

This is an incredible list. You could probably make 2 HOF teams just out of these undrafted players.

pauldrulez 18-03-2010 10:12 PM

Bloody Hell, that's an amazing list.

And what about when they had more rounds in the draft as well.
