Hester's return of a missed FG (against the Giants at Giants Stadium) was 107 I think. |
Could have been. Either way... today's was the longest play in NFL history.
EDIT -- You're right Tony. Now that I think about it... Vasher's was two years ago against San Fran -- Windy as hell in Chicago that afternoon. Orton was QB that game |
Chicago 38, NY Giants 20
Preview - Box Score - Recap By TOM CANAVAN, AP Sports Writer November 13, 2006 EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- Standing eight yards deep in the end zone with the ball, Devin Hester couldn't believe his eyes -- the New York Giants were actually walking off the field. He had just gathered in Jay Feely's field-goal attempt in the fourth quarter, a kick that fell short. But the Chicago Bears' return specialist wasn't going to go sprinting off just yet. He gave the Giants a few extra seconds to vacate. And with that, Hester was off to the races, giving the Chicago Bears the inside track on NFC title with a record-tying 108-yard romp that was the knockout blow in a 38-20 victory over the injury-ravaged Giants in their NFC showdown Sunday night http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/recap?gid=20061112019 |
He only just caught it as well it was a fantastic return
|
Just announced, WR Marvin Harrison and Right Tackle Tony Ugoh inactive for Colts. Ugoh out is good news for our defense, we might have more opportunities to get to Manning.
As I said previously Watson is active and starts. Wilson and Morris the big outs for us. |
Shawn Rodgers -- Big DT for Detroit just had a 67 yard INT return for a TD. Great stiff arm and dive into the endzone :D
|
Chad Johnson being taken off in an ambulance
Doesnt look too hot. Had to be in Buffalo as well |
|
Pats go three and out... don't score on their first possesion for the first time all year
|
Indy looking v good but Pats have managed to keep them out so far
|
It's going to really hurt Indy that Harrison is out. For the obvious reason... but also because they can key on Wayne. Moorehead and Gonzalez are not very good.
|
Go Pats
Randy Moss is the Dogs danglies this season! |
This just feels like a post season game. The intensity is up there!
|
Christ, The Jets' rookie David Harris notched up 20 tackles today.
Is that high or REALLY high? Can't find anyone else with more than 11 on my quick look thus far. |
Anyone getting caught up in the hype of the Colts game and backing o56.5 must be questioning their judgment right now!!
|
really high
|
Wow. Addai is the man this game so far.
|
187 total yards, Rushing/Receiving
|
Still got a ways to go if he wants to equal Adrian Peterson's rushing yards today
|
Peterson's a beast. Probably would have gone top three had he not been injured in his senior year at OU.
|
Sidney Rice was a great WR at South Carolina too. Good draft for the Vikings this year. If they want a mobile QB does anyone reckon they trade up and try and get Woodson from Kentucky?
|
I'm not sold on him as a pro QB yet...
I think McFadden is going to be an awesome pro... |
Brady runs like a mincing duck
|
That's why they pay him to throw it ;)

I'm surprised by the amount Peyton has been under center and not in the shotgun on third downs.
|
What a time for Sky to lose the feed!!
I see (via NFL.com) Indy scored a TD on that drive. |
Yeah Peyton sneak... Brady just connected with Moss on a bomb... first and goal
|
You want me to keep updating?
Bob Sanders down hurt... ball on the three... timeout |
Some dubious penalties against Moss in this game
|
TD Patriots
|
Penalties killed that drive...
|
Browns v Seattle is a great game right now too...
|
Cheeky little spike there
:D |

OR a FG now and a FG in OT will do Sweating buckets on this |
And to think I took Moss out of my Fantasy team this week because I thought it would be too tough for him to get points!!
|
OOOOOH!
Nearly got the TD I needed |
Thought he had missed that
 |
2nd game I've followed that's gone to OT tonight.
Only been 6 OTs all season and three of them have been in the last 6 days |
I honestly think it may have been a different game with Harrison. One, he can catch the ball. It would have also helped free up Dallas Clark. Nothing taken away from the Pats though. Great win. I hope they meet up in the AFC Championship game. Those two teams are heads and shoulders above the rest of the league.
|
Great game between the two best sides in the country.
Brady delivered at the important times tonight. Cant see anyone stopping them this season. So strong in all areas. |
That's it Hasselback
Good lad |
FFS
Now the moron officials are dragging it out He got the 1st down for crying out loud |
Oh my God
Not given!! |
then dont make it
:bash: |
Still a profitable night but I really should have quit betting at 10 and not carried on.
Looks like another loss coming up |
Funny hearing that song by The Who in Cleveland.
That's what they play at Hull FC rugby when the team's come out. |
6 overtimes
3 won by coin toss winner - 3 not The 50% ratio lives on!! |
Couple great games tonight. Hopefully Philly Dallas will be a good one too!
|
Cincinatti, San Diego and Seattle have killed me this season.
|
Bengals are just shit. Don't know how, but they're horrible.
|
They are a hideous team at the moment. Chad Johnson couldnt catch a cold if it hit him in the face.

Cromartie's return:
http://www.nfl.com/videos?videoId=09000d5d803debd0 |
All in all, a good weekend in the NFL with some amazing action.
I missed the early games as I was at the Bermuda Rugby Classic but got home for the start of the Pats Colts match, of course ;) Having seen the highlights, Cromartie's return was amazing. Just to keep the ball in was a great play with his foot almost on the line. That was 109 yards and 2 feet and 11 inches! But Peterson is an amazing runner that could easily break even more NFL records. They took him out for the last play, I think, otherwise he'd have got over 300 rush yards. And then my Patriots. I really thought the game was gone, especially with the umpires concealing their Colts jerseys under the zebra ones. Dubious defensive PIs, even more dubious offensive PIs... you could've knocked nearly 100 yards off our penalty count by correcting the calls. Harrison or not, I reckon some decent calls would've made it a different matchup. Still, Brady showed what everyone knows - he can lead a team down the field when it matters most. With the weapons he has this year and Maroney coming back to fitness, can they equal the Fins and go unbeaten? Seven left: @ Buffalo Eagles @ Ravens Steelers Jets Fins @ Giants To me, the games against the Ravens and the Giants are by far the toughest although the Steelers won't exactly roll over! Well done Pats, enjoy your week off! |
Some great games it seems last night from reading this thread and checking the scores online (haven't had the chance to watch any highlights yet!). Great win for the Patriots although it wasn't the game that it was built up to be, always the same though isn't it .... Great win for the Cowboys to put them on 7 and 1 and in charge of their division :p
|
Cowgirls only one ahead of the Giants, jazman... I can't say 'd shed a tear if the Cowboys blew the division down the stretch ;)
|
Quote:
Can't see the Pats losing one now, unless Brady gets crocked, in which case they're a completely different team. I won't be watching them again until the play-offs: like the Chelsea team which strolled to the Prem title a couple of years back, their robot-like efficiency has become tedious for the neutral. (Even Randy Moss outleaping double coverage and pulling pulls in one-handed has become routine now.) It's frightening how easy they're making it all look. |
Quote:
Any chance of the starters being rested though when they get the home-field advantage wrapped up (assuming they do...)? |
No chance of them resting starters if they're unbeaten.
I'm not sure I'd watch a Patriots game, but for a different reason to Ben. They're just so much better than anyone else (bar the Colts, which brought out their A game when needed) it isn't competitive. Of course this is part of what will make the Patriots-Jets game interesting. Pity we have to wait until week 15 for it. |
Indeed, be good to see Bill give Eric a good pasting ;)
|
Quote:
And the point I was making about that Moss catch is that he's been so good all season, it felt like 'just another Randy moment'. Whereas if a Chris Chambers or TJH or Kevin Curtis makes that catch, it'd be replayed endlessly everywhere for the next seven days, because it'd be out of character. |
Quote:
Eric Mangini 100% when taking the Jets to Foxboro :p Clemens will be bedded in nicely by then :D |
Quote:
And I've seen that Moss catch 3 times already since last night so it will be played for a while yet ;) |

So the Cowboys are the team fans love to hate still it seems ... :sob: The next fixture is Cowboys at the Giants I believe .... :p |
.
|
Well, not really hate the Cows as such as hate TO(sser).
Not a huge fan of Romo either but he provides entertainment - both good and bad. I like watching the Cowboys but if they could lose 42-38 every week to a last minute interception return, I'd be happy :D (My other half is Texan and therefore anything bad I say against Texas is forbidden, unless it involves the inbreds at Texas A&M or the pile of cr*p at Baylor... :D) |

Just a quick follow-up on the Olindo Mare vs Jay Feely discussion, taken from Peter King's column today: Quote:
I'd love to see a scouting report on Brady to see why he dropped so far in the draft. |
Be gentle with me, I've only recently started to get back interested in the game more recently after a 6 or 7 year lack of interest. Maybe that stems from the cricket season finishing and the fact that Palace are so poor at the moment ... :D

Good man, stick with it. I rarely even know what the Palace score is anymore until reaching work on a Monday morning! |
Grim will like this draft preview from 2000:
"The top two quarterbacks in this year's crop are Louisville's Chris Redman and Marshall's Chad Pennington." Brady is a mere footnote, and described as 'not a gifted athlete'. http://archive.profootballweekly.com..._qb_020200.asp |
According to these rankings -
http://archive.profootballweekly.com...ain_042000.asp Brady had a slightly better than 50-50 chance of making a roster. |

"However, this year there are no quarterbacks with the physical gifts of Tim Couch, Donovan McNabb, Akili Smith or Daunte Culpepper."
I liked that bit... I've followed NFL for a while and Couch and Smith barely register a blip on my knowledge banks! |
From here:
http://archive.profootballweekly.com...%20TOM%20BRADY It says Brady "has some Brian Griese in him..." :D I bet Chicago wish Griese had some Tom Brady in him! |

Bit harsh on Rodgers, Strath. He may yet be the Packers' QB of the future once Favre hangs 'em up.

There's a fair bit of talk about "system quarterbacks" regarding the draft now, the inferrence being that these guys are only putting up huge stats because of where they're playing and who they're being coached by. This could definitely happen to Colt Brennan of Hawaii next April (who wasn't helped by the one week his backup played and had a monster day). Incidentally I'd have been happy if the Fins had drafted either Harrington (when he first left Oregon) or Rodgers. :clown: |

Steve McNair is horrible.
|
Yep. He's done. And Boller isn't the answer. They should have taken a QB earlier in the draft. (Can't see Troy Smith making it in the long haul either...)
|
Missed the game last night but saw some highlights this morning. Big Ben is looking pretty sharp but given the shortfields he dealt with the Ravens offense made it easier for him.
|
Fins are going to grab defeat from the jaws of victory again. :sob:
|
And St. Louis win.
|
••••••• Dolphins. :(
|
How the hell were Duffalo available at decent odds when just 3-2 down???
Easy money. This Giants game proving to be a ncie touch - each team having spells of being in the lead and faves on the betting. God I love this sport. Just need Detroit to get the next score and everything will be fine and dandy. |
Shockey a season high 9 receptions last time he played Dallas - already on 8 this time at ht!!!
|
Quote:
Oh sh1t that means Jets are no longer 3rd worst but in fact jt 2nd worst!! :o |
Yay. Defeat from jaws of victory as usual.
At least we beat the spread, a victory in my eyes. Anyone hear my shoutout on five? Not happy that they didn't read out the business part of the email! |
Manning thrown 4 interceptions in a little over a quarter.
