Interesting comment on Facebook from Ocho Cinco

'if the lockout in 2011 happens then I will be part of the Barcelona Soccer Club'

And have I heard right on PTI that Kurt Warner has decided to retire? If so will be interesting to see if the Cards go with their backup ....

Also rumour has it that Philly will get some interest in all three of their QBs in the close season but will they try to offload McNabb for a good draft pick? Does anyone think that maybe Kolb can step up to the plate and mix it with Vick? He showed some promise last season when he came in for McNabb.

Warner retired a few weeks back, not a real surprise, he did consider it last year.

Philly wont trade McNabb, I'd give it one more year before handing the reins to Kolb.

Vick will be gone, where I don't know. If St. Louis take Suh with their first pick, i'd trade a lowish pick for Vick and have him play a decent amount of snaps. They got Bulger and will draft someone later on to use as well.

The lockout sounds very likely. The important part of this, is if there is a lockout, the contracts extend one more year so it doesn't majorly affect the teams.

But, if no new CBA is agreed, then there will be no draft in 2012 I believe. That means the college guys are free agents. And they don't want that, surely. Means the better teams get better as they do what they want.

jazman 11-02-2010 11:04 PM

The concussion issues must have ended any thought of maybe one more year ... I completely missed it as I think it conincided with the news at Palace so I was off NFL for a bit ...

PTI said the same, they doubt that they would trade McNabb but it is an option for them ...

You say the lockout doesn't effect the teams, but what about the fans? It happened in baseball didn't it I think?

Strathclyde Eagle 11-02-2010 11:19 PM

Not sure Warner's decision was concussion related, just he felt his time was up, and he didn't need to be all dramatic about it (cough - take note Brett - cough).

pauldrulez 12-02-2010 08:20 AM

Unlike Favre, I also think there will be no reconsidering either

saxoneagle 12-02-2010 08:24 AM

Just a question - I appreciate liking American sport but why would a non-American celebrate Thanksgiving?

I HAVE to and, apart from an extra day of back to back football, there is just no reason for it. Most Americans don't even know what Thanksgiving is for.

Whilst I agree with the over dramatic talk and discussion about a certain Mr Favre, surely he proved his decision was correct and he was still able to play by leading his team to the NFC title game?

After a season of battering, taking time to evaluate your body's resolve is fair enough, to an extent. Messing teams around, is not.

I think Kolb is good enough to take over next year, don't think he's good enough to win us a superbowl, but don't think McNabb is anymore either. Think for the first time we really have some good receivers, so what we need is a QB he can pass accurately to them, let them do the work. Most of McNabb's tenure he's had not much to work with and his scrambling skills have been invaluable in making plays. I think Vick would be a step backwards for us as he's never really been a top end QB, certainly not as good as McNabb IMO.

I think Andy Reid will do whats best for the team overall rather than whats best just for next season. When we let Dawkins go last year that was a good strategic decision, however we really did miss him a lot last season. I think it all depends on what we are offered, I think ideally we'd hang onto Kolb and McNabb and get a pick for Vick. But any combination of the two would be fine for us, depending on what we get back in return. Plenty of flexibility anyway.

Warner has definitely retired, I made the mistake of choosing the Cards against Ardeo on Madden the other night and they have taking him out of the game, I was forced to use Leinhart, duly got a battering! I have since made up for it though. :D :p

As for our situation, I'll be very surprised if McNabb isn't our starting QB next season, these rumours seem to appear every year.

Let me explain my reasoning. It was more to do with the fact that I was banging on about the Thanksgiving games on that evening. So we decided to look into it a little more and use it a kind of history lesson for the kids ... it was very enjoyable to be honest :p

I just wondered whether the issues that he has had this season ended any thought that Warner may have had of sticking it out for one more season ...

Seems to get a daily mention on PTI. Latest is Vick to the Bills?

Was just reading that we might trade Kolb for the Browns nose tackle.

Really think its a case of looking for the best deal out there. My guess is we'll keep two. But wouldn't like to say which 2, although think Kolb is most likely to stay.

Also hear we are looking at Julius Peppers, presuming he becomes available.

Snikt5 12-02-2010 03:01 PM

I have only recently (last few seasons) got back into the NFL. It is only this season that I bothered to learn how the draft works. Can someone explain to me in Laymen terms what this potential lockout is? I think I get it, but can't see why the teams would let it happen?

Swanny32 12-02-2010 03:35 PM

Yeah, I could do with knowing what this lockout is that everyone is talking about

pauldrulez 12-02-2010 04:34 PM

The lockout is no football for the year. At all.

That would be a moronic trade for the Browns. Probably their best defensive players for someone unproven.

You'd have to have someone stupid in charge to do that...
