Remember, NFL and its salary cap is being held up as some kind of panacea to all of European soccer's ills at present. |
It will come back in some form, the question is what exactly.
Salary caps are a big talking point at present in America. Talk of the NBA abandoning their soft cap and moving towards a hard cap (like the NHL). Amid all this financial strife the frightening thing is that the NHL could come out of this looking the healthiest, having stumbled upon what they now have a few seasons ago out of desperation. |
It has to come back, it will be ridiculous otherwise.
There will be some concessions made from both sides i'd imagine. For rookies, i'd suggest this. Salaries are too high for the top 20 picks. Reduce all rookie wages to a lower amount. But, reduce the contracts as well. All rookies would sign a 3 year contract with the team. Maybe 4 years for the top 10. Restricted Free Agency for 5 years based on that so people get value for their pick. Get rid of the Franchise Tag will be one thing that the NFLPA will ask for. Revenue sharing will need to be lessened on the Owners end. Why should a team that works really hard on bringing in income and sells out, have to give up some of their revenue for it to be spread among the rest of the teams. When the Jaguars aren't a popular team, don't sell out, merchandise sucks, why should they get as much money? |
I think for rookie contracts they'll have to do something along the lines of what the NBA have done, have a maximum amount and time they can be for. Young guys don't get overpaid, picks remain valuable and sooner or later the player gets paid too.

Speaking of the Cowboys, I'd like to criticise Wade Phillips for this clip, but then I realised that he appears to be the only man at this party, and all the women are about twenty years younger than him. So (arguably) nice job Wade. :p |
Read up a lot about the players that are coming through the draft this year. Looking like a bumper year for prospects it seems ...
|
Not many elite QBs after Bradford though I'd suggest.

NFL owner at Selhurst today.
Sadly one who already owns Villa, but still... Where does our solitary Browns fan sit anyway? |
Apparently Kraft IS not one of the 20 interested parties!

Couple quid on the Jets might be worth it just in case to cheer me up :) Otherwise Packers looks a decent punt.
|
i like the titans odds each way.
|
I might have an e/w on the Niners and Bears.
Ridiculous odds for those teams with what they have. |
Not sure if it's been posted on here, but they've been saying for the last week or so here in Charlotte that Julius Peppers is definitely not coming back to the Panthers. 'Not worth the money' was the quote I heard.
Any ideas where he'll be off to? Still rumblings going around about Vick coming to Carolina....I guess it's possible that the Panthers will get in a big name having freed up Peppers' salary. |
