Sorry Latvian, just caught your post.
As you probably know, I've seen it first hand, and it wasn't pretty.
Things are not happy in Carolina right now. The owner Jerry Richardson is a big player in the NFL behind the scenes negotiations, and I'm pretty sure has quite a lot of insight (and influence) on the upcoming labor concerns etc.
They've raised ticket prices a bit, but been steadily letting their big earners go, kept a lame duck coach, and it's increasingly looking like they're running the team down, ready to build for next year (or the year after). I've forgotten his name, but there's a really popular coach (both college and NFL with the Steelers I believe) who lives in Carolina but has been out of the game looking after his sick wife. Rumours are, they're biding their time with Fox before getting him in. But what's annoying the Panthers fans is still having to pay through the nose to see their team, and the feeling that they're putting out the very least quality team they can and still 'get away with it' with the fans, if you see what I mean. Like some other places in the NFL, we were threatened with a blackout if the game didn't sell out, so things don't look good really.
Moore has been terrible in training, pre-season, and regular season, and has been replaced by Jimmy Clausen. I think the moment they drafted Clausen, Moore has felt like the writing is on the wall. Perhaps he's just a confidence player, and can't deal with pressure so well. A lot of expectation on the rookie's shoulders. However, he seems like a somewhat cocky bastard, so this might not faze him too much.
Still on the subject of shipping out higher earners, despite 2 rookie WR and another guy being either on injured reserve or inactive, Dwayne Jarrett couldn't even get the 2nd receiver spot behind Steve Smith on Sunday. Instead the job went to this year's 6th round pick Gettis. Even then they threw more passes to TE Dante Rosario than him. So perhaps that's another earner they're trying to get off the books.
Add to that, the running game isn't functioning yet, and it all looks bleak. (Although Stewart and Williams usually take a while to get going). It was odd to see Moore throw 3 endzone picks against the Giants though in game 1. The Panthers seem obsessed with trying to force their disastrous passing game when running has always been their strength.
It's all a bit weird at the moment, and to be honest, difficult to see where the first win is coming from.
However, in the finest spirit of a Crystal Palace fan, I will of course be backing the Panthers to rally and win the Superbowl.
