Just gone through, Moss is a Viking

y2rich 06-10-2010 02:29 PM

All confirmed. Vikes now need to agree a contract with him. Moss is back in Minnesota! Time to get out all my old jerseys.

pauldrulez 06-10-2010 04:28 PM

Not yet.

May well be more than a 3rd rounder. Not gone through as Moss and Vikes discussing contract.

This was a request from Moss. No argument with the team, no argument with the players. Bill granted his request as he wasn't going to retain him at the end of the year.

He wants to end his career where he started.

Good Luck to him. And keep an eye on Vincent Jackson.

Swanny32 06-10-2010 04:32 PM

What's the chances of Jackson moving, Paul? He is available as a FA in my Eagles league, worth a shout?

jazman 06-10-2010 04:47 PM

Vincent Jackson would fit in well at the Bengals .. but I wonder if the Niners take a punt on him in a bid to get their season going ... not sure what they have to trade with though ... Good pick by the Vikes though, they needed another WR with their injuries ... depends if the old man can reach him though ... ;)

Thinking about dropping Felix Jones for Jackson

pauldrulez 06-10-2010 04:49 PM

Keep an eye on it.

There had been rumours about it in New England all year.

50/50 for me.

The most important part of the Moss trade for me and my confidence in the Patriots, is that we've moved away from last years offense which was "Run, Welker, Welker, Moss, Run, Moss, Moss, Welker, Edelman, Run"

This year, we've had: "Run, Run, Hernandez, Welker, Run, Moss, Run, Tate, Welker, Run, Gronk". And that is more the style of the Superbowl winning Brady rather than the 50 TD Brady.

The mood in NE from what i've seen, is very mixed.

We knew Moss was gone at the end of the year, but a lot of people held out that tiny bit of hope that there was a chance he'd stay.

It's weird that it all happened as it did.

Last Night, I was putting some coins in my savings jar (for next years NY/Boston trip, over £400 in there now). Next to it, I have two 12" figurines. One of Brady throwing a pass in a white uniform. The other is Moss lined up in a formation wearing the blue uniform. It was only then that it hit me that we were seeing one of the best QBs of all time with one of the best WRs of all time (probably the best downfield WR ever). I don't think that Patriots fans appreciated what we were seeing on the field.

And amazingly, that's probably the only post i've done on this thread that actually had deep thought in it. I've sat here for a good 10 minutes trying to put it into words.

I'll miss Moss. From the deep bomb against the Jets in his first game, through his interception vs Denver on a hail mary and his one handed masterclass on Revis. Truly an incredible physical specimen.

Don't.

Felix is about to get a more extended role in the team.

jazman 06-10-2010 04:56 PM

And RDS has him anyway

Swanny32 06-10-2010 04:58 PM

Nah, this is in my Eagles league, 3-1 and showing those yanks how it's done.

Bill Belichick:
Quote:

"Over the course of the past several months, I have spoken with Randy and his representative about Randy's place on our team and his future in football. Consistent with my dealings with Randy from the day we acquired him through our conversation this morning, it has been honest, thoughtful and with great mutual respect.

"While I will keep private the details of internal conversations with players and staff, suffice it to say that many things were taken into consideration before making the trade. In this business, there are complex and often difficult decisions, but it is my responsibility to make them based on what I feel is best for our football team, in both the short term and long term. I am grateful for the opportunity to have coached Randy Moss and aside from facing him as an opponent, I wish him the very best for the remainder of his Hall of Fame career."

Looks like the Pats are going to have one hell of a 2011 draft!

y2rich 06-10-2010 05:52 PM

Looks like we're getting a 7th in 2012 in return as well.

Benzhiyi 06-10-2010 05:53 PM

They horde picks every year and then usually piss them away on players they cut in pre-season, or draft picks for the following year.

Although this year, to be fair, they got huge value in the likes of Hernandez, Gronkowski and McCourty.

Not worried though. Prob be back to normal next year. :o

I think we'll be trading up this year with some of the picks.

Especially if a rookie cap is in place.

Julio Jones and that Robert Quinn guy would be nice. Throw in Mark Ingram as well ;)

jazman 06-10-2010 06:31 PM

We traded up for the first time in what seems like ages and I'm pretty happy with that work ... Dez Bryant looks like a true star, if he can keep his attitude right ...

pauldrulez 06-10-2010 06:34 PM

Argument on WEEI Boston(radio) right now.

If Bill knew Moss was done, why not draft Dez Bryant?

Fair enough, but I think the first 3 WRs in this years draft are better than Bryant.

Plus, we needed other positions ahead of that.

I like our receiving corps still, even without Moss, but who would you say is that deep threat now?

saxoneagle 06-10-2010 08:36 PM

Oh, and agree with the "other positions of need" but don't think we filled them all as we should have done.

Are we going to have a serious discussion unlike Sunday? ;)

It's tough.

Tate can go deep, he's got the speed to do it, and hopefully he can clear out the room for Hernandez, Welker and Edelman.

The unknown is Taylor Price as well as Darnell Jenkins from the Practice Squad.

Price is a speedster. He's got the potential, but I wonder if it's a year too early.

Jenkins is even quicker. Clocked at 4.2 and a sub-11 second 40, he can get deep against anyone. He can also catch the quick screens and make players miss. He'd be the logical guy to promote from the practice squad.
