CPFC BBS - The NFL thread

Coming at it from a positive point of view, I can see a strong argument for the Tuck rule - we watch a passing league and we want to encourage the ball to be thrown. If someone is in the process of throwing and has therefore made himself more vulnerable to having the ball knocked away, why shouldnt he be protected against a turnover until he has the chance to regain strong control of the ball?

Fairly confident this argument could only come from a Pats fan... ;)

Why should he be protected from a turnover?

No one will be thinking, "I'm not going to throw the ball very often because if I change my mind when throwing the ball I'm vulnerable to a turnover..."

Stupid rule from the start.

Probably true but I think that the great players play the rules, maybe you dont start the throwing motion until a fraction of a second later because you have to be sure you're going to make it. The best QBs have a very quick, tight wind up (from 2 hands to throwing position), maybe they'll start working on how they get the ball back in two hands as efficiently as possible. Might see less fakes, or less extravagant ones at least.

As it stands now, the Cowboys will be barred from even making any draft picks. They better get that Romo contract sorted.

Look around. Who could have brought in to replace him? Nobody really any better that is available and worth trading for. Not high enough in the draft to select a rookie capable enough of taking the QB spot. I was suprised at the deal, is even question the deal. Could be silly but could have a lot to do with the time invested in Romo. Only time will tell, but there are a lot of Cowboys fans that last season was the last straw for Romo. Those that have any sense will see that our cap position will not give us much leverage in bringing in a new QB. I'm not sure about it, I've always had a soft spot for Romo but even I was losing my patience. However, he is crying out for support so perhaps that is what they will have to get him along with this new contract.
