Of the 16 contracts signed by NFL players with a maximum value of at least $100 million, no one has ever earned $70 million in those non-guaranteed deals. That will change this year with Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, according to ESPN Stats & Information's John Parolin.

Roethlisberger is scheduled to receive $11.6 million this year ($9 million in a bonus as part of a restructured contract), which will give him $76.5 million from an eight-year, $102 million deal that he signed in March 2008. The most any NFL player had received from a $100 million contract was $69 million (Donovan McNabb).

Victor Cruz was asked about the 5-year, $43M contract he just signed.

Quote:

“I'm not going to lie, it’s tough. It’s tough,” Cruz said on Sirius XM Radio, via Newsday. “When you understand from a numbers standpoint, and the numbers you put up you feel like deserve a certain amount of money ... and you want your team to owe that to you.

“But I think playing in New York, you can't take that away,” he said. “You have to hold that up to an account at some point when you’re going through these negotiations. You ask yourself ‘Would you want to play for this amount in New York and play in the best city in the world and play football, and - I'm a hometown kid [from Paterson, NJ] - be close to home and your mom and your family? Or do you want to take a big pay day and go somewhere like Kansas City or Minnesota where your family might not be able to come as often as you want and you're living in a city you’re not too familiar with and it’s an adjustment for you?' So you have to take all those things into account as well.

“But I'm not going to say it's easy when you see guys getting these huge paydays and you feel like you're at the same caliber, if not better than some of those guys,” he said.

I wish people that planned on posting videos on Youtube would start rotating their iphones to landscape so we don't get this crap.

What a moron.

The San Francisco 49ers have picked up an additional $2 million of salary cap space as a result of one of their players opting to not participate in the team's voluntary offseason workout program.

Cornerback Tarell Brown had triggered a $2 million escalator to his 2013 base salary and was scheduled to earn $2.925 million in the final year of his contract. However, since Brown opted to do his offseason training at his home in Texas, instead of participating in the 49ers' workout program in Santa Clara, Calif., that escalator has voided and his base salary has returned to his original $925,000, a source with knowledge of Brown's contract details confirmed to "Shutdown Corner". Brown was also scheduled to receive a $75,000 workout bonus, but that has vanished, as well.

"For me, I wanted to do a different type of training to get my body ready," Brown said. "Last year, I feel my body broke down a bit at the end of the season."

I know everybody has been worrying about the Matt Ryan contract negotiations. Your nightmare is over:

Quote:

The Atlanta Falcons and quarterback Matt Ryan are in the process of finalizing a five-year contract extension worth over $100 million, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports.

According to Mortensen, the deal is worth $103.75 million and includes $59 million in guaranteed money. Ryan will receive $63 million over the first three seasons.

What's going on in the NFL? Not really been keeping up to date lately!

peagle 26-07-2013 10:32 AM

Training Camps starting NOW. That's about it though, nice and quiet other than lots of interviews about the upcoming season and in some cases the off-season's dramas.

Tebow through an Interception to a defensive end on a bubble screen.

He also caught passes from Mallett and Brady.

That's your Tebow update for this week.

Hire me, ESPN!

Really want to get the draft started in "alternative" fantasy nfl. Need 1 more player to give s 10 teams.

Funk Butter 29-07-2013 10:16 PM

I guess Eddie Lacy though he was drafted as a DT.
