It's the other end of the spectrum to Carolina who try a lot of things on offensive, but since taking Newton haven't gone after any wide receivers, running backs or tight ends high in the draft to help him out.

The Panthers have a number of decent WRs, just no big names. Looks like Ted Ginn Jr has finally turned the corner, which is good news. The trouble is, the Panthers have had so many big needs for a number of years now that a 1st Round WR has not been a priority. When you look at the last 3 1st Round picks of Newton, Keuchly and Lolotelei (sp) you can't really grumble. They're already calling our new big man 'The Death Star'! He's been great so far, look out for him.

As for TE's, we did a fairly expensive trade for Olsen from the Bears. We have a back up guy, new recruit with great athleticism and lots of upside (forget his name). But with our high investment on runners, the second TE tends to be kept mainly for blocking prowess.

I think it's fair to say that the Panthers have never had much trouble grabbing big chunks of yards in the air since Cam arrived. The problems have been a mediocre at best secondary, spluttering and expensive running game, and until this season, a front defensive line that couldn't bring any pressure. Excited about Star though - he's going to free up some monster stats for Greg Hardy and Charles Johnson.

Forgot to add - the Panthers drafted Kenjon Barner at RB this year. Fairly low down, but he wasn't expected to fall that far. Thus bearing in mind we already have D Williams, Stewart, Tolbert, and of course Cam. I think this led to having to release Tauren Poole and Armond Smith, both of whom could do a decent job for any NFL team IMO.

It wasn't meant so much as a dig at the Panthers, more the plug-and-play approach of teams like St Louis & Minnesota. They play more expansively even without the high profile picks in skill positions.

If Newton had Patterson or Austin I think we'd see far more interesting plays.

I didn't take it as a dig, I just think it's one of those things that's become a bit of a lazy assumption. Of course the Panthers would love another bona fide big name receiver to complement Steve Smith, but I actually really like the way NFL teams can't handpick loads of big names all at once. You have to address your needs, and try to build effectively through the draft. We have a lot of players who can catch a pass, but not so many who can stop one!

Star L should have never fallen to the Panthers, that heart ailment diagnosis is the modern version of the Dan Marino cocaine rumours.

Third week in a row that I won the satellite over at Fanduel to get to the satellite to the Million Dollar Vegas tournament. Not been close yet, but this weekend I am rooting for:

QB -Drew Brees (What the hell is wrong with me)
RB - Bilal Powell
RB - LeSean McCoy
WR - Josh Gordon
WR - Demaryius Thomas
WR - Eddie Royal
TE - Julius Thomas
K - Nick Novak
D - Indianapolis Colts

If Schiano isn't fired by the end of the day, I'll be amazed. He pissed this game away against the Cards. To top it off, for some reason he decided to use his last timeout to ice the kicker on a 25 yard FG with a minute and a half to go. (Expect to see that on the "Thank You For Not Coaching" article on Grantland)

Really enjoyed that at Wembley tonight.

AP was a beast.

Might try and get tickets for the next one as well despite the inevitable blow out.

Amazing come back by Seattle. Almost makes me feel guilty for selling my Seahawks jerseys... :o

The Browns' players and coaches aren't following management's script.

Looks like they knocked out a few in the Survival League.

pauldrulez 30-09-2013 10:10 AM

Aqib Talib is an all-pro.

The man is a monster.

4-0 :lux:

Gronk and Amendola back soon :lux:

pauldrulez 30-09-2013 10:16 AM

Gutted for Wilfork though, LB's have to step up.

saxoneagle 30-09-2013 10:26 AM

4-0 Paul? Isn't that what you're NOT going to be in TWO fantasy leagues? ;)
