I've Sky plussed a lot of the Americas Games and am working my way back through the ones i'm interested in. Went through the Dolphins undefeated season, the 49ers in the late 80s as well as the Bears 85/Packers 96 Superbowl games for purely selfish reasons.

I've taped all the 2000 onwards ones as well apart from 04 which I have saved on DVD :D.

When the Patriots lost to the Steelers Nov. 30, receiver Wes Welker was knocked out of the game in the third quarter by a vicious but legal hit by safety Ryan Clark.

The way Welker responded earned Clark's respect . . . and something else.

"Wes got my Pro Bowl vote," Clark said yesterday. "Obviously, he deserved it numbers-wise, but also because of the way he handled that situation. He handled it like a football player should."

Welker was here yesterday as part of the "Got Milk?" campaign, and while he made the media rounds, Clark's hit inevitably entered the discussion. Welker reported that he's felt no ill effects from the blow, although he hasn't forgotten it.

"He made a good, solid hit, but I'd just say that I'm anxious to see them again," Welker said.

A great clip on Total Access the other night when Dion Sanders was in the media group questioning Clark and you could tell he was waiting for Sanders to start. Now Sanders suggested that his hit on the Ravens player in teh Championship game was illegal .... Clark gave him some but it all ended in Sanders offering 'some love' ... :D

Tis also true. But how many teams (Dallas :D) would want him considering the hell they will take from the media for taking a dog-killer on board?

I don't know if it will come to that though, I think Goodell will ban him.

The three were elected on Saturday along with longtime Buffalo Bills owner Ralph Wilson, who at age 90 will be the oldest person ever inducted; former Minnesota guard Randall McDaniel; and the late Bob Hayes, a standout wide receiver for Dallas and the 1964 Olympic 100 meters gold medalist.

Inductions will be Aug. 8 in Canton, Ohio.

The only candidate among the seven finalists who didn't get in was former Falcons and Eagles defensive end Claude Humphrey.

Former Commissioner Paul Tagliabue was denied entry for the third straight year, not even making it past the first round of cuts.

Tagliabue, who retired in 2006 after 17 years in the job, has met strong resistance in his three years of eligibility despite the profitability and labor peace the league enjoyed during his tenure.

There was no such problem for Smith and Woodson in their first year on the ballot.

"I am overjoyed," said Smith, the career sacks leader who spent most of his career with the Bills.

"It's a great honor, a great feat," said Woodson, the former defensive back who played for the Pittsburgh Steelers, among other teams. "I'm still pinching myself a little bit, thinking it's surreal."

The moist poignant moment, however, came when Hayes' sister, Lucille Hester, read from a thank-you letter Hayes left in case he made the Hall of Fame. He died in 2002.

"It didn't matter how long it took. ... The day is here, and it is historic," she said.

A defensive end, Smith retired five years ago with 200 sacks and made two all-decade teams. Drafted No. 1 overall in 1985, Smith had the most seasons with double-digit sacks (13) and the most postseason sacks (14.5). He earned defensive player of the year honors in 1990 and 1996 with Buffalo and concluded his 19-season career with three seasons as a Redskin.

Smith previously said making the Hall of Fame would be a bigger honor if two other Bills, Wilson and wide receiver Andre Reed, also got in the same year. He got half of his wish.

"What a phenomenal class, and especially with having Ralph Wilson, the founding owner of the Buffalo Bills, to be inducted in the '09 class as well," Smith said. "This is truly special."

Then his thoughts turned to his family.

"Just thinking about my father and all the sacrifices he and my mother made when I was a child growing up to be a man," Smith added, tearfully. "How he wanted me to have a life better than he had. I just wish he was here. He would be extremely proud of this day."

Redskins owner Daniel Snyder issued a statement after Smith's induction: "We were fortunate to have Bruce as a Redskin for his final four playing years, and as a Redskin when he set the all-time sack record. He's a consummate professional in life, as he was in the locker room and on the field. He's a personal friend, and the epitome of a Hall of Famer. He still joins us at games, and Redskins fans will always feel part of his stellar career."

Wilson and the Titans' Bud Adams are the only original AFL members who still own their franchises. Their teams will meet in the Hall of Fame Game the day after the inductions.

Wilson has steadfastly kept his team in a small market while other owners bolted for the bright lights and big bucks of mega stadiums. He drew the biggest ovation at the announcement and mentioned that he'd seen every hall enshrinee perform at some point.

"Pro football to me is not about making money. It's a matter of competition, the flow of the game," he said. "People in the community become attached to a team. It gives them a quality of life.

"I had a chance to move that team. I think it would be crazy to do that."

Woodson, the 1993 defensive player of the year, also made the 1990s all-decade team. He led the NFL in interceptions in 1999 and 2002 with Baltimore, and in kickoff returns (27.3-yard average) in 1989 with Pittsburgh. He played cornerback and safety for the Steelers, 49ers, Ravens and Raiders in a 17-season career, winning the NFL championship with Baltimore in the 2001 game and making Super Bowls with Pittsburgh and Oakland.

Woodson is the career leader in interception returns for touchdowns with 12.

"I don't think any of us started playing football because we wanted to be in the Hall of Fame," Woodson added. "I started playing football because my brothers played."

Thomas, who died nine years ago after an auto accident while still an active player, also was on the 1990s all-decade team and was the 1989 defensive rookie of the year. He is 11th in career sacks with 126.5.

A rushing outside linebacker who also had responsibilities in pass coverage for Kansas City, Thomas set an NFL mark with seven sacks in one game against Seattle on Nov. 11, 1990, a year in which he paced the NFL with 20 sacks.

"Derrick Thomas was the cornerstone of the modern era of the Kansas City Chiefs and one of the most feared performers of his era," Chiefs owner Clark Hunt said. "Every head coach and offensive coordinator who faced the Chiefs during the 1990s knew when they came to Arrowhead Stadium they had to account for Derrick Thomas."

McDaniel was that rare guard as effective in pass protection as run blocking and could handle even the best defensive linemen singlehandedly. He missed only two games in his 14-season career and was yet another member of the 1990s all-decade team.

"Randall was a beast," Smith said. "Once he locked on to you, you couldn't go anywhere."

Hayes was the most dangerous deep threat in pro football from 1965-75. Nicknamed "Bullet Bob," he twice he led the NFL in touchdown catches and in average yards per reception. He also was a brilliant kick returner.

The long wait for Hayes to get into the Hall of Fame -- he was a senior committee choice -- had much to do with problems he had off the field.

Hayes served 10 months in a Texas prison after pleading guilty in 1979 to delivering narcotics to an undercover officer. That "destroyed my life" Hayes wrote in his autobiography, "Run, Bullet, Run: The Rise, Fall, and Recovery of Bob Hayes." The prison term ended at about the same time he first became eligible for the hall.

In a statement, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said, "This is a deserving honor for one of the Cowboys' most and truly gifted stars. We all know he changed the game on the field, but he also brought a unique star quality to the NFL that helped make professional football the most popular sport in the world.

"He was a world champion in two different sports, and he had a world-class heart. I couldn't be happier for Bob, he was always one of my personal favorites. ... This is a great day for Bob Hayes' legacy, his family and the Dallas Cowboys. "

Tagliabue's day still has not arrived. Critics cited his inability to place a team back in Los Angeles after the Rams and Raiders left in 1995, and said the labor agreement he pushed through in 2006 was cast aside by the owners last year.

As mentioned by Paul already a lot of backup QBs earn a lot of value from imitating opposition QBs. I can't remember which America's Game it was that had a feature about Damon Huard imitating Peyton Manning's mannerism's accurately, thus helping the Pats' defence be ready for his adjustments at the line of scrimmage. Interesting stuff.

(Yes, I'm also loving all the America's Game episodes on Sky. Have about 6% left on my Sky+ box at the moment because of it.)

Also been Sky Plusing a load of America's Game. 1985 Bears is the best I've seen yet. Gonna have an evening's worth tonight to build up to the big one, beginning with the '87 Redskins and climaxing with those unbeaten Phins. Whoop whoop!

Only a few short hours! watched loads of the build up all day and I'm so excited!

I've gone through 2003, 2004, 1972, 1985 and will be ending with 2001 from 9-10pm.

Got plenty of beer and redwine to keep me company though :D

Anyway, I'm starting to get a bit anxious now. Not at all confident, as a lot will depend on how each team starts. If Warner comes out flying it could be a long night for the Steelers. Just hope we can rely on the D to bail us out as usual. Should be a good game regardless though.

You need a lead going into the 4th Q IMHO.

You want Warner to be flinging it everytime when you have 5 DBs on the field.

I'm on my own watching it though, my friend was supposed to go to the Superbash with me, but changed his mind last week so I ebayed the tickets. So, he can waste his own money on drinks he gets 0 of mine.

Btw, I'm kidding on not wanting the Steelers to win because of Clark.

I just dont want them to get 6 SBs :D. I like Tomlin, seems a genuine nice guy and great coach.

I saw someone wearing a Steelers coat when we were walking down Pawsons Road yesterday. The one that Tomlin wears IIRC. I'd love a Patriot one of them right now, that looks warm as hell.

I fancy a Superbowl Snowball fight right now :D

I've been watching some of the Steeler Super Bowls from the 70's today, and man what a team, now that was a no nonsense team. I mean how'd you like to line up to take the snap with Jack Lambert staring you in the eyes :D
