This just goes to prove that the BBS handlers were 20 years ahead of the technological curve.

Maybe some whizz will come up with a sub Parr app that allows you to put your favourite personality in hundreds of comical or even genius images. Or fabricate 3D graphical images of animals made from blue tac.

PeterH 27-05-2023 03:40 AM

Annoying, no. But seeing as there isn't a thread about things you find disconcerting, I will put it here.

Tak (Tariq) appeared in my siesta dream today.

I was walking towards my old work and bumped into another old friend. For some odd reason that old friend and walk turned into me being driven by Tak to somewhere funky he knew to get a beery lunch. It dawned on me that as we were driving around the backstreets of Borough that I neither had time for lunch and I was going to be late for my class. I woke in a panic to find I had 10 minutes before class.

The dream started with a former female colleague (and still friend) touching me in an inappropriate way before I had gone to lunch.

The whole dream made me come all over a little queer.

It wasn`t until I visited Holland and Prague that I realised what a scum nation Britain has become. There is a field near me called Latton Common where travellers tether their horses.I wander over there for exercise and take Carrots with me to feed them and I`m depressed at the amount of rubbish there is.No wonder the Spanish hate us.:frown:

Just back from Leipzig. Normal big city Graffiti but realised not a spot of litter any where. None zip I became obsessed with finding it. The closest I came was a child in a push chair who dumped her snack packet that the bigger sister immediately picked up. They also don’t seem to have drive throughs which spread detritus far and wide

It's the future apparantly. Joy for us all.

I tend to do less custom with businesses that seem to priotise the 'lazy/convenience' feckers over those that have made the effort to turn up at their premises. Plenty of extra mininum wage jobs on shite conditions, though.

Cue some BBS runt who bleats on about how delivery is essential as their ailing next door neighbour can't leave the house. Or somesuch. Regardless of the point you made that these services (especially junk food) are mainly for fat, lazy bastards. Still, fewer full kit wankers waddling about. Doubt there are many of those in Chelsea shirts at the present time.

Pre-orders via an "app" in the Wetherspoons at Putney Bridge last week. Despite there being a good half a dozen people behind the bar, only two were on the jump. It took a ridiculously long time to be served a beer.

That's funny. Just got back from second long trip to the States in the last few months. It made me appreciate the streamlined UK bureaucracy. Every financial transaction in the States is needlessly complicated.

Does the price indicated include sales tax? If not, how much is it? Don't know until you get bill at check out.

Will contactless work or do you need a pin too? Oh no you need contactless, a pin and a signature.

What about a tip? Do you do that before tapping your card/putting in a pin/signing or do you do all that first and then have to add up manually and sign again?

How much will the ATM charge for a withdrawal? When will it tell you? Oh, it's $4, but it only tells you right at the end when you've gone through every other question.

How long does it take to pick up a rental car? That depends how long they have to keep your payment card stuck in the card reader until it prints something out. It could be up to 15 minutes.

Why have I paid more for petrol than it says at the pump? That's because you've paid by card.

Can you buy anything online with a UK card and have it sent to a US address? Unlikely, your card has to registered to a US address. PayPal? No that doesn't work either.

Makes UK banking system seem like a paragon of efficiency.

Southern California weather...

After possibly one of the wettest winters on record, the month of May is now probably one of the coolest, at least in my 42 years here. I appreciate high 60's °F is not cold, but it is that temp that we are not used to. Plus the biggest issue so far is May Gray, to be followed by June Gloom. All forecast going out for the month predict much the same. Very depressing. They do say though that they are expecting record heat in the later months - feast or famine I guess.

If I wanted this I would have stayed in England, who ironically appears to be having nicer weather than us.

Bloody global warming...

I needed to explain myself better.

I meant it regarding multi-post posters.

The feckwitts that firstly shout to high heaven about how shit the new kit is, and then post that 'it is growing on them', and then buy it.

I can't abide that kind of pre/post menstrual inconsistency especially from often older adults that shouldn't be buying and wearing such shite materials in any case.

And potentially anti-semite. If Dahl's 'white as a sheet' is being rewritten to 'still as a statue', we need to remove any confusion as to whether Charles is not so much annoyed by the sniffling but more so the jewishness of the nose owner.

Yes, apparently so. (I did Google it... what a sad life I live!)

Seems to be used by health nuts to blend grass, berries and broccoli etc. so no chance of there being one in this house!

You are not sad, many a times I have googled too after reading something on here

Snap about the juicer. I got 3 I think and don’t use any

As I've been told at work it's a powerful blender not a juicer. The people who tell me that are the same ones that forget to clean it after they've used it :wallbash:

That is disgusting and I agree can be frustrating. I was in Chennai couple of years ago and cancelled my order of some fruit juice when I saw the blender was not being cleaned since it was first switched on.

Also, I think it is the cleaning bit is the main reason that we have three and not used blenders in our house, as between me and my wife we can’t seem to decide who will be doing the cleaning :)

Done a big shop at Sainsbury's earlier, they had the usual 2 tills open despite 20 being available. In hindsight I should've gone to the self scans, but saw one till only had one customer in front of me (an elderly couple) so I thought it would be fairly quick. I understand they're going to be a bit slow but my god the 10 minute chit chat they had with the cashier had me tearing my hair out! Was like scan an item have a chat, 30 seconds later scan an item ...

Someone, somewhere in supermarket training has decided that the British public want chit-chat as each item is scanned through the checkout. I'd suggest otherwise.

Maz 31-05-2023 08:33 PM

Loneliness.

Some 200 Jumbo supermarkets will be opening up tills where clients can stop for a chat rather than pay for their shopping as quickly as possible.

Couldn't they make a trunk call instead?

I think the elderly where I live already think this is happening at every supermarket.

Use the SmartShop app on your phone and scan the items as you go around then go to a self service checkout, scan the QR code on the till and your shopping appears on the till screen, pay and leave. It's very good.

I'm a bit disorganized/lazy/indecisive so I do go in to my local Sainsbury's quite often. You can spot the, mainly, older people who do love the interaction with the staff (and vice versa). I would use the hand scanners but like to think the more who use the checkouts the longer they will keep them. And I did my share as a student.

Showing my age here, but the last time I remember Neil Young and a cross was the one Summerbee sent him in the 69 cup final. He didn't burn it though, he buried the bastard.

I can't abide that kind of pre/post menstrual inconsistency especially from often older adults that shouldn't be buying and wearing such shite materials in any case.

Can I also add Male and Female Palace fans who are of a certain weight (applies to most fans over 40!) who wear the kit and resemble a sausage in it's skin! Just buy a loose fitting Palace t-shirt or polo like the rest of us!

Indeed. One of the vintage range or a casual top that isn't too lairy.

pallet 01-06-2023 08:12 AM

On the Supermarket thing, it is sad that slowly we are killing a job role. The more we use the self scan etc the less the checkouts are needed the less staff are needed.

This is obviously a Sainsburys policy, having as few tills open as possible (usually 2)

Its been like it for a while now in every branch we've been to

Fortunately our local Tesco and Morrisons appear to operate differently

The thing is, it's like the automated car parks... you usually have to have a live person milling around to sort out the problems and reset the machines.

Many a time, I've seen that person take someone aside and scan the customers items for them as it is quicker for them and to keep the line moving and the station open.

LOL & EFA... although I quite enjoyed the image of you trying to swat a large slow flying horned beast against your window.

Sometimes we get confused dragonflies pop in and have a headbanging session against the window.

Last week we had a hummingbird.

Two tills open in Waitrose Bromley, with shopping on the belt the woman on the till suddenly says ‘my shift is up’ and walks off. Six people still in the line. Rather than get on the till herself the supervisor says that we can use the self service tills. I walked and told her she could put all the chilled food back. You could tell there was something going on between staff and management. Since Sharon white took over the group and fecked around with partners the John Lewis group is fast disappearing down the toilet

Although the I bit doesn't work.
Why do I get asked how many bags I'm buying twice?
I just want to scan, pay and go but the Intelligence deliberately slows me down.
Which is VERY annoying.

Waitrose Beckenham yesterday: Just a few items so went to the self-service check-out and had to call the assistant four times because the machine didn't like something.
