If you let me know the password and other sign on details I can test it out for you

Don't open a bank account in Chile.
To pay a bill online with my debit card, I have to first put my ID number in the payee's site which forwards me to my bank website where I have to put my username and password . I click all the necessary fields to get to the "pay" button, at which point I have to use another app from my bank on my iPad to verify the payment - requiring (different) username, password and a (my) secret 6 digit pin number. Once this is completed I then receive a text message with unique code to input in the bank webpage. Finally the transaction is then closed.
So, 2 websites and application, my ID number, 2 usernames, 2 passwords, a PIN number and a unique code. And this rigmarole is for any and every online payment I make.

OK you win!

I'm on a bit of an annoyed roll at the moment after a visit to the DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) this morning. An American icon when it comes to bureaucratic government run officialdom.

For the 3rd time in about the last month I have (as requested) filled out required information and downloaded documents to a website (not just DMV but others). Obtained a confirmation number and printed out said confirmation, only to get to where I'm going and be asked all the same questions or fill out forms asking the same questions and asked to provide the same documents I downloaded.

Left hand meet right... I don't think we will ever get to be a paperless society. In 2022 people still don't trust computers and the security of such.

The IRS is a pain in the arse too. They're chasing me for '000s of Dollars tax when we sold our house two years ago and an accountant handled all the tax liabilities. He's pissed off too and it's costing us money sorting it out.

Easy once you have done it successfully but awkward to explain. Good luck.

Mrs Bubbs, every time Wimbledon comes around, going on how much she loves tennis but moaning about having no time to watch it, when she doesn’t give a flying wotsit about it all year.

Yesterday when she got home from work:

Me: Raducanu’s out
Her: Who?
Me: Emma Raducanu!
Her: Who?
Me: You know…the young Brit that won the US open
Her: Never heard of her

Reminds me of the Wimbledon winner sweepstake we did at work many years ago, the person who claimed to be a massive tennis fan pulled out their name and moaned 'who the hell is Guy Forget', pronouncing both of his names the English way.

Overuse and out of context of the word 'journey'. Everyone seem to be on the ‘journey’ when describing past events in their life or their future.

It's a way of ignoring that you either cocked something up or haven't achieved what you are meant to. Probably something to do with mindfulness.

The BBC has a Cameron Diaz story. She's coming out of acting retirement. Ching Ching

She went into retirement because she needed to go and find herself...along with Gwyneth Paltrow. Wrote a couple of books etc.

The constant and shameful bleating of “lessons learned” following on from dreadful mistakes and oversights particularly from social workers which seem to be repeating themselves all too frequently. Clearly lessons are not being learned at all. Try informing us exactly what is being done than hiding behind this glib expression.

Bloody motorbikes. Do they really need make the noise they do?

They start around 9pm past my window (open for fresh air) and come to peak around 11pm. Noisy showoff barstewards. Completely spoiled Casablanca. "Here's lookin' at you, kid" completely drowned out by 'RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR' Is there any limit on exhaust volume? There is for cars, so why not bikes?

I would say an even better example are the MPs. Everytime they have been caught out embellishing their expenses (thieving) and other ethical misdemenours (let alone other things), they brush it under the carpet by establishing some 'new rules'. The position the frauds as though they were innocent oversights, and then present themselves as ethical kingpins by introducing new 'standards'.

You would expect these people to be intelligent enough to know exactly what they are doing.

If any regular person did the same in their regular jobs - an immediate dismissal would be the least they could expect.

Still, Boris and his mates are/were receiving monies and influences from Russians, Saudis, and Murdoch. And the heir to the throne received briefcases full of cash. But the real criminals are those claiming disability or unemployment allowance or those on a dingy in The English Channel. They are the real scumbags. More fool you if you can't provide that receipt for that taxi journey you took last month.

It's a wonderful world.

I was riding my bicycle last Saturday and came to a stop at a light (yes - some of us do stop at red lights) and 3 guys on Harley's pull up along side me. The one right next to me starts doing that revving thing Harley riders seem to get a kick out of (No baffles in the exhaust?). F***er nearly blew my ear drums.

The guy definitely knew what he was doing by the smirk on his face.

Yeah, they reach 50 and have one of those mid-life crisis thingy's. Get a tattoo, try a bit of coke for the first time in their lives, then instead of chasing a bit of young skirt like most blokes in that situation they buy a fecking bike. They're jack the lad as they rev around their gated communities allowing everyone to see(hear) what free spirits they really are, despite sitting on their arse on Wall Street for 30 years.
This is all well and good until they venture out in the real biker world, where the Mongrels, Nomad's and Hell's Angels will rip them a new one. After a year they decide the freedom of the road is not for them. They flog the bike on E-bay, spend a month in rehab because they once drank a six pack at the bankers bike convention, then participate in a 6 month Plumbing course. This will allow them to function in a stress free environment, where they can make plenty of money and still get the satisfaction of ripping people off like they did on Wall Street. Rant over.
By the way apologies to any of our plumbing friends. It's a great trade.;)

Not sure where to put this, so thought about here...

Today we had a carpet cleaning company coming... the bar was set very low from previous experiences and I was ready for a shit show.

They told me they would be here at 9:00am, so at about 8:59 I go to take a pee... while doing so the door bell goes and after finish my pee go answer the door it's them. My Apple Watch says 9:00am!

The guy tells me they have to take some accurate measurements of the room as the quote was given over the phone. Guy takes all the measurements using some laser devise and crunches the numbers and comes up with $11 more than the phone quote.

I give him the go-ahead and he says it will take 3 to 4 hours... 3 and a half hours later he is all packed up and done.

At various times during the process he calls me over and shows me areas that are worn carpet rather than dirt and beyond restoration.

The guy tells me he is a perfectionist, and I can believe it (I thought I was the only one!). He was pleasant, courteous and professional as was his apprentice/helper with him. I could hear the guy telling the kid all the secrets and techniques while they were working - I really liked to hear that.

Now I'm annoyed I have nothing to be annoyed about!

Once sent my sister a WhatsApp at 6am (DE time) which woke her at 5am (UK time) - she wasn't best pleased. The next day, at 6am, I sent her instructions for setting up the 'Do Not Disturb' mode - to see if she had done it, or not. Not.

Den Haag Eagle 02-07-2022 08:05 AM

Same in this house. 17 year old came home at 3am this morning, crashing and banging. Then 19 year old's alarm went off at 5.30 then proceeded to have about 10 snoozes :grrr:

Adlerhorst 02-07-2022 08:27 AM

Look at it the other way around. My wife needs an hour and fifteen minutes between waking up and leaving the house. I need thirty max. She works 40 miles away so she needs an hour to get to work, whereas, when I am in the uk, I am ten minutes away by car or 15 by bike.

So on a weekday the alarm goes off at 5.45am. Whereas for me it could go off 8 am.

Videos and adverts that pop up on websites i visit and you cant close. They take up so much screen space you have to peer behind and as you scroll they stay in place. I have a pop up blocker but still th fks get through. any one know a cure?

Lazy feckers in supermarket car parks who leave their shopping trolley there having emptied it into their car, rather than taking it to the 'trolley park', meaning anyone else wanting to park there has to stop, get out and move it.

Had to have a word with someone who did that this week. And they left their kid's drinks cups and wrappings from their snacks in it. Didn't seem to bother them that someone else would have to clean up for them.

What made it worse was where they left the trolley was only about 3 yards nearer to her car than the actual trolley bay and a bin.:wallbash:

The shopping trolley test.

TL;DR people who don't return their trolleys are massive arseholes

The litter is worse than the trolley. During peak covid time, with socially distanced queues around the car park to even get in the store, I regularly found trolleys abandoned in parking spaces but with used masks left in them. Natural selection isn't working...

My enquiry was along the lines of 'I've always wondered who leaves their trolley's for other people to have to move'. The response was an impolite version of 'what have I got to do with their biznez ':grrr:

I know it's horrible being a cynical old bastard but there were a few signs in your post that carpet man of the year might not be the star of the rug world that you've built him up to be.
"I'm a perfectionist." Perfection has a habit of kicking a person in the arse. What he's really saying is, " this is a two hour job, but I'm going to make it last 3 and a half so that I can justify the $311 I've just charged you.
New estimation is 11 bucks more. Yeah right. That's like $9.99. You think you're getting a bargain because it's an odd number . He should have just said it's an extra tenner. I'm very surprized he didn't hand you a crumpled $5 bill that he happened to find under the old carpet and tell you look what I found. Yelp would be full of 5 star reviews about how Perfect Pete the carpet guy, who used to be a surfer dude until he saw a Youtube video on "how to clean carpets," is the most honest chappie in all California. ;)

Wow, and ME gives me a bad time! :D

But you are right, anyone who says to me, "I'm a perfectionist" is usually a red flag to me, because I'm the biggest perfectionist I know, so it takes a lot to impress me. This guy was close, but let himself down with the missed section... must try harder.

Plumbers that persuade you you'll be better off agreeing to an hourly rate rather than a fixed price who then take 3 hours to do a job that you think should have taken an hour.

Agree dates for friends visiting all day, check calendar, no matches because we are playing the day before vs Leeds :) so confirm arrangements. 3 mins later, phone beeps with advice of QPR match on that day. I give up.

If the term 'professional' suggests they get paid for doing it, then fair enough if there's people out there willing to pay.

On the other hand (:lux:), it would be significantly funnier if they were an amateur palm reader, and therefore did NOT get paid for doing it

Getting reminders for at least the last 7 days telling me today is my last chance to renew a subscription.

You would think they would get the message by now... I'm pretty sure it's spam anyway, as I don't think I ever had a subscription to said software anyway.
