Yep, lovely win. I watched some of it throughout the day. Clarke, Clark & Roach all seemed to get plenty out of the pitch on Days 1 & 3 whereas Hants got absolutely nothing out of on Day 2. Maybe Surrey simply bowled better. On the whole we caught well, too.

Of course, consistency is key.

I'm probably in a minority thinking this, but I feel it's very artificial, and it turns the County Championship into a bit of a farce, when you can just ship in a top class player for a few games then ship him out again. Personally, if we're short, I'd rather see one of our youngsters promoted

Overseas players used to have semi-permanent status with a single County team in years gone by (Lloyd - Lancs, Haynes & Daniel - Middx, Procter - Glocs, Marshall & Barry Richards - Hants, Clarke & Howarth - Surrey, Garner & Viv Richards - Somerset, Rice, Hadlee - Notts, Imran Khan - Sussex).

Now, as you say, Counties and players seem to have adopted a revolving door policy. I agree it’s a shame.

Bringing in a back-of-a-length, tall, bang-it-in bowler on early season April/May English wickets was never the wisest of choices. Why pick up young bowlers from the fringes of other counties, like Nathan Gilchrist but leave him ferrying jumpers and hand sanitiser on to the pitch?

When you add in our other 'overseas' player is Heino Kuhn who, while the squad was (poorly) preparing for the new season, was stuck in SA and then quarantine over here and carrying a knock, it's not difficult to see where the problems lie.

As you have mentioned, the County Captain currently spending his time playing the Playstation in Delhi causes futher ire :wallbash:
