Think the big selection issue we have is that we have no number 8 apart from Woakes, who is a great bowler at home, but not so great away. But we're forced to select him, as otherwise our tail is incredibly long. It's why I think Bess has to come into the equation, lets be honest we don't have a test quality spinner at the moment, Bess, Leach, Rashid, they are all pretty average county championship bowlers, but at least Bess could bat 8 and we could select our best three seamers.

Don’t think we actually need to select a spinner in Australia. Root can bowl 10-15 overs of spin and he’s really not far off Leach/Bess standard. They’re both bang average international spinners and offer nothing. Keep Woakes at 8 and go for 5 seamers (especially if Stokes is only going to give you 10-12 overs).

I do wonder, if he does nothing in this Test, whether they'll be brave enough to drop Stokes. Shift everyone below him up one so Woakes becomes more of an all rounder, drop Leach, and get Broad and Anderson in.

Broad, Anderson, Wood, Robinson and Woakes, with Root to twirl a few. Heavy on bowlers but Woakes can bat and Robinson can hold his own.
