Dunno if you were here 15 odd years ago but you used to be able to park your car for free literally in a field 100m from the entrance.

I knew an air traffic control who worked there, he had some interesting stories, he crashed a small light aircraft there.

My wife and father in law keep leaving the fridge door open a tiny bit. Enough to knacker the motor long term and also let all our food get warm. I shouldn’t have to teach adults how to close a fridge door. Bloody ridiculous.

A couple of weeks ago I needed to replace my kitchen scales so I bought a new fangled digital one.
Only to find out when I got it home that it was a "battery not included". Not a problem I thought , I have some batteries.... but no, it uses one of those "watch" type batteries - the little flat lithium ones. Grrrrrr
Finally I manage to buy one of those batteries today and understand why possibly it was not included in the first place.
The battery was more expensive than the scales!

Maybe this is more for the "things you've learnt today" thread (although I learnt it about a month back)...

Those flat lithium watch type batteries that have a seal or sticker on one side... if you remove the sticker the battery instantly starts discharging, so if you leave it in a draw somewhere it dies before you get to use it.

Disclaimer: I don't 100% believe this, by my hearing aid technician told me it was so, as I was complaining to her about the battery life. I use them for one day with new batteries, and then take the batteries out... a week later I put the batteries in again, and they are dead, so I sort of believe her.

That sort of thing are usually CR2032s... they're no more expensive than AAs or AAAs?

correct. Scales CLP5000 (GBP4.90), battery CLP5200. Was I ripped off? Dunno. But then some things are strangely way more expensive than they should be here. I needed the battery and couldn't do much about the price.

Yes the sticker covers some tiny holes that when exposed lets air into the chemicals to produce electricity. Once they are exposed they do have a limited lifetime but mine usually last longer than a week if not used. Ive never tried putting the sticker back on to see if it saves the battery?

You've got me confused... Googling CLP5000 shows some fairly serious looking (medical?) scales that would cost a darned sight more than £4.90, and CLP5000 looks like a mobile phone battery?

Smoz 18-05-2021 08:26 PM

correct. 5000 of 'em. 5 luka (a word like bucks or quid) = just short of 5 quid

And since H quieried I checked and fished the packaging out of the bin. It was for 2 of them... I hadn't seen the other! I have also since checked online and yes I can buy them cheaper... if I want 5 of them. Put me down as skeptical but I am not that hopeful that a 5 quid digital balance is going to last so long as to need 4 more battery changes.

Mobile batteries are a lot more that 5 luka. I think you were looking at a monthly price if you buy over time.

My Epson printer (again!).

The Photo Black ink cartridge is running on empty. I'm not printing any photos, and the regular black and all the colours are fine. After "x" amount of times printing with the photo black cartridge empty it puts it's foot down and says no more.

It is impossible to print anything until you replace that one cartridge however you try to trick it.

You have my sympathies. We have just had them nearby on a council owned recreation site. They were only there for six days but managed to leave 14 large bags of human waste, 80 bags of general rubbish and piles of wood chippings and other garden waste. They also stole 4 nesting boxes, destroyed birds nests and kicked someone's front door in. They shat and pissed all over the children's play equipment. Apparently the police said there were too many for them to deal with. (Although down here in Kent, the police are terrified of them). They will spend the next five months or so moving from town to town causing mayhem.

Great for the local economy.
Carpenters, locksmiths, CCTV installers, rubbish clearance etc. Stop complaining.

If only. Local residents left to pick all the rubbish up. Council nowhere to be seen.

Wankers

Actually I bet smoking related has dropped due to vapeing. Also to they count the costa crap from drive throughs as Non alcoholic or fast food because as soon as one of those pops up so does the litter. I cannot understand why the councils don't insist that if you want planning permission you have to employ a full time litter picker with van as part of the approvals.

And the rozzers to absolutely f all.

Disgrace

They claim to be poor persecuted things that are picked on by society and its racist to say anything negative about them. What a load of bollocks, they are simply dirty selfish scum that manipulate the system and make everyone else's life a misery. I have first hand experience of what scumbags they are. There maybe the odd "good one" but that is the exception to the rule, as in any other group in society there will always be "bad ones" that are the exception to the rule.

As a tory voter I'd have thought you were all for that sort of arrangement.

Today I'm a bit annoyed at the weather app on my phone. Got up this morning and the app showed winds would be 3 to 6 MPH all morning. So I set out on my bike, looking forward to a nice wind free ride, and low and behold it is blowing a good 3 fold those predictions, which makes it tough going at times and taking away some of the enjoyment.

Weather prediction seems pretty good when it comes to temperatures, rain and clouds, but often seems to get caught out by the wind (maybe Michael Fish can be excused). Seems like they have not yet perfected wind predictions.

Always thought representatives of the Gypsy Council should be made to come along and clear up each time they move along.

Indeed. Whilst cigarette smokers have a dirty habit and can be dirty with it - that graph is so obviously put together by rabid anti-smokers.

So you think the UK government are rabid anti-smokers?

Apparently an estimated 200 million fag butts are dropped every day in the UK, each one weighing about 0.2g. A back of the envelope calculation suggests that it amounts to about 40,000kg of daily littering. That figure excludes all the other associated smoking litter such as the packets, lighters etc.

This is a bit confusing since the data that I briefly looked at suggests that there are only about 7 million smokers in the UK, and that their median average consumption is 10 cigarettes a day. My back of a fag packet calculation makes that 70 million so I am wondering who smokes the other 130 million? (And that of course makes no allowance for the people who use ashtrays).

That’s why I provided the sources for those ‘claims’. :D

I know and it’s appreciated. Doesn’t make the numbers any more sensible though.

It was a lighthearted response to Pete, not a serious analysis of littering.

If I could have found the average weight of a sofa then I could have answered his question more fully.:D

Ultimately, it seems you can take any subject and bend it around to smokers being the main culprits.

They spread Covid as well. They spread it 20 times more than people who have just been c nuts throughout the pandemic.

There is probably a graph somewhere that shows this.

When you retrieve your voicemail and they read out the entire number first. I realise it's useful, but I'm impatient and it annoys me. In fact, listening to voicemails in general annoys me.

I posted that Pete and I still smoke. :)

Reading the supporting data I realised that I still, on occasions, drop ‘litter’ despite being rabidly anti littering.

Never again.
