So, its finally confirmed by the Patriots.

Tom Brady has been placed on the 'injured reserve' list and ruled out for the season.

Alot of presure on Bill Belichick now; his career record as a coach WITHOUT Brady as a QB is quite a contrast. His win % slumps dramatically.

I'd disagree. No expectations now, every opportunity to achieve without the one star he has never been made to go without.

You could argue any team without the star player would have a worse record.

Either way, now it is confirmed, I'm gutted for my team and gutted for Brady. On a personal, selfish level, I'm more gutted I have to sit with two Jets fans next week and watch Cassel v Favre.

It could've been so great.

Just think though saxon. Should we win, you are able to laugh at them for losing to a 2nd string QB who has struggled in the past but can miss the useless pass rush of Gholston:o and throw it 50yds to Moss,Welker,Gaffney,Washington,Aiken,Slater. Faulk is back which provides and extra option for receiving.

I wouldnt say no expectations; even without Brady, they still have the likes of Moss and Welker and it would be a failure if they dont make the play offs.

It depends how quickly they ajust their game and how they play to Cassel's strengths. Will they add a new dimension to their offence and focus more on the running game?

Here is a quote from the Press Conference that I wrote down after 2nd listen.

“In spite of what some people are putting out there, we haven’t worked out a quarterback or given a physical. Believe me, we had a lot of people call us. Despite what people are saying, it’s simply not true.”

Now that shows some true confidence in the two QBs for now. We only take two on gameday anyway. So O'Connell and Cassel it is. Brady will be there on the sideline in the games as soon as his leg is fixed.

Belichick always looks for a silver lining as well.
"Had this been late in the season, he may have missed some of next years season as well.

Now to play Devils advocate. If, IF Matt Cassel led the New England Patriots to the Superbowl, what would Belichick do next year.

Paul, New York v Boston is a massive rivalry. Boston papers would be doing the same if Favre got injured. And you'd probably be rejoicing too!

Yeah possibly but thats because I really hate Favre for various things that I cant go into again as it causes an argument.

But if it was Pennington last year, then I wouldnt feel like that not sure why not.

But yeah, the Red Sox fans hate the Yankees, the Revs hate the Red Bulls and the Celtics hate the Knicks. But nothing is more extreme than the Jets fans hatred for the Patriots. And vice versa. I really should know this but I am incredibly tired and start college in the morning, why so little hatred between the Giants and the Pats, is it because they are in different conferences or am I just imagining it.

Im so tired and its all your faults for keeping me up through the Jets game.

I dont think that the Globe or the Herald would have a picture of Favre limping off with the headline "Yahoo. The old bastards false teeth have fallen down his throat"

So, I watched much of the Jets @ Phins game, and spent the rest of the time watching the Saints beat Tampa Bay. To be honest though, I was fixated on the game in Miami.

The Dallas Cowboys completely trampled over the Cleveland Browns. There could and should have been a greater difference in scoreline. It was the first full game that I got to see Romo play, his movement in the pocket is very impressive. He seemed to get himself out of every situation he could - bar the one where he got hit so hard that it cut his chin :D The look on his face was brilliant - pure, unadulterated pain :D Browns just didn't seem to click, although I thought Anderson had a good first quarter, he seemed to be hitting Winslow pretty regularly - and then it all fell apart. The statistics say it all, Romo completing 24 of the 32 passes/rushes he had, Anderson completing only 11 of 24.

On a side note, I wasn't impressed with Romeo Crennel's decision to kick for three rather than to go for it on the fourth down in the last few minutes. It just showed a lack of balls, he didn't want to take a risk when he really should have shown a bit more faith in Anderson. And it left the fans going home angry - I just don't think it was thought through properly.

And then finally, it came to the Bears against the Colts - a game that the Bears won through hard work and a little bit of fortune. I promised my fiance that I wouldn't watch it - but then five minutes later I'm sat infront of the telly again. I could feel my eyes morphing into the square shape of the television.

Manning had a strange game. He just seemed frustrated the entire time, and couldn't pick up any sort of rhythm. Obviously, his knee injury affected him, but he just struggled. And whenever they cut to him after another misplaced pass or a fumbled reception, you would see him with a strange, frustrated looking smile.

As for the Chargers, that was a dissapointing result. Our defense looked pretty static as the Panthers made their way up the field for their final touchdown. I don't understand how Rosario, despite having two players either side of him, had so much space to just grab the ball like he did - I don't think we showed enough discipline and to be honest, we underestimated Carolina.

Another great read after Saxons earlier post. Real interesting to hear peoples views about the games as they happen ... we should keep this up in an NFL blog kinda way .. even though Ben and Paul have gone and done their own ... ;)

I'll attempt my first review of the week tomorrow where I am sure I will prove my lack of knowledge compared to you guys ... but give it a go all the same I will ... :p

I would argue that point. The baseball rivalry is much more heated. Always been great, but since the Sox got good the past few years, it's out of this world. I was in Boston for the ALCS when the Sox were down 0-3. It was wicked!!!

And with you being in America, you know a lot more about baseball than me, but I know its a big rivalry and is talked about on PatsRadio along with bits about the Revs and Celtics.

IIRC, The Patriots werent allowed to have Monday night games due to crowd behaviour in the past, not sure if that was in games against the Jets???, which led to Kraft posting a fullpage thankyou to the crowd in the Globe when the NFL finally allowed us to have a night game and there was no trouble.

I will be updated my blog with a Patriots piece next. But, I like the idea of a blog between all of us.

Duuuuuuuuuude, seriously: this is crackers. Red Sox - Yankees is a far more bitter rivalry than Pats - Jets. In fact it's probably the biggest in American sports. When you go to Boston you'll see that its people care way, WAY more about the Red Sox than they do any other of its sports teams, even with the recent success of the Pats and the Jets. Nothing can prepare you for how completely obsessed that city is with its baseball club. I know this'll sound hilarious coming from the guy who got his Pollards mixed up earlier, but you've really gotta do some proper research before you start making these statements as if they're facts. :D
