How is the team salary cap worked out? In theory Patriots have greater room to improve their roster based on salary?!

You can spend centuries trying to unlock the mysteries of the salary cap. The Patriots just have a way of assembling non-superstar players that fit their system so they don't have to pay as much as other teams. That allows them to make the occasional big free-agent pickup to fill a hole on their team. It also helps that Tom Brady is only the 43rd highest paid player in the NFL by cap charge. ($10M less than Tony Romo)

I wonder if Shanahan even knew where the Falcons were at the end of the game.

On the ensuing Falcons possession, Ryan gripped it and ripped it. The Falcons moved from their own 10-yard line to the Patriots’ 22 with a 2-yard run sandwiched between two deep passes. They then ran once, for a loss of a yard, shaving 44 seconds off the clock. Then, Shanahan dialed up another pass — and Ryan took his fifth sack.

“You don’t think, just run the ball and make your guy kick a 50-yard field goal,” Shanahan told reporters after the game. But wait — why wouldn’t you think that?
Playing to your strengths if fine, but you can't make decisions in a vacuum. You don't play your hand the same in a poker tournament when there's 10 people left versus when there's 1000 people left.

Not just that, it's running plays with 15-20 seconds still on the play clock, too!

Multiple #NFL sources are pegging the free agent contract of #Bucs QB Mike Glennon as expected to land between $14-$15 million per season.

With all those great attributes. He only plays safety.

Not sure what the biggest mistake is here, signing Osweiler in the first place or packaging him with a 2nd round pick to get rid of him.

Houston trades QB Brock Osweiler, a second-round pick and a sixth-round pick to Cleveland for a fourth round pick, league sources tell ESPN's Adam Schefter. The Browns take on the QB's $16M salary.

Beckenham Boy 09-03-2017 09:07 PM

On paper that appears to suck for both teams

Dallas DL Jack Crawford signs for Falcons on 3yr deal

I honestly have never heard of that guy. The talk around here has been about Dontari Poe.

Teams already have reached out to Browns to inquire about Brock Osweiler's availability, per team sources.

Busy day for the eagles releasing Connor Barwin to release cap space and signing Torrey Smith from SF and Alshon Jeffrey from bears hopefully people who Carson can throw to who can actually catch a ball.
Also signed guard Chance Warmack from Tennessee

Beckenham Boy 10-03-2017 02:37 PM

So it appears that if Browns cannot trade Osweiler they plan to release him

Romo to Texans now must be happening any moment

Norwich_Eagle 10-03-2017 03:02 PM

As a Bears fan I hate the NFL right now. Absolutely hate it.

Released Cutler and Jeffery and look to be replacing with Markus Wheaton and Mike Glennon. I know I'm in a minority when it comes to Cutler, but an unproven QB who is 27 years old and made 21 appearances just seems daft to me. Same again with Wheaton. There has to be a grand plan that no one knows about yet.

Completely typical of the Bears so far with this "activity"

Heard that was part of their plan, they have so much cap space they are happy to have his dead money, in return for the picks.

Essentially they will end up paying the Texans for picks in cap space, which presumably will be the first move of its kind.

Yep all makes sense now and the picks allow them to trade onwards for Garropollo
