Ben, do you need any guest contributions to the blog?

P.S. I might have written 552 words on the subject already.

Paul, you really need to stop shooting your mouth off.

As a Pats fan, I am seriously worried about the future. Knee injuries such as Brady's are a serious detriment to that player's future.

Sure, he'll come back and I'm pretty sure too that his head will be in the right place to resume. But plenty of QBs have had similar and not been themselves when they've returned - it is inevitable given how pivotal the knees are to such a role.

And whilst you might not want to believe it, one player gone can have an effect on the team far beyond his own worth.

For example, on Sunday, the D was awful. Why? Because the pressure was on them to make a play and make a stop knowing we don't have the firepower.

Also, now Brady has gone, Moss looks toothless. He is still running most routes to completion but Cassel can't throw into a narrow lane or throw over the top as accurately.

And that is just two components. All you need to do is throw in Brady next year and he has a couple of bad games and takes a hit or two to that knee, and you can wave goodbye to the current Pats dynasty.

You might call that an over-reaction but let's see:
QB - bust up
WR - star is useless and moody without the action
Others - Bruschi is 35. Faulk is 32. Vrabel is 33. Harrison is 58. Jordan is 30. The whole OL turns 30 in 2009.

Sure, we have some rookies who are starting to look like good NFL players but it is too early to say. We're not only a QB light right now, we're an aging team, particularly on D.

The more I watch this year, the more I worry. We don't yet need a new franchise QB but I wish we had an Aaron Rodgers in waiting. We don't. In fact, we don't have depth anywhere. We have good, nay GREAT, starters in most positions but no depth except for journeymen.

Paul, you obviously watch something different to me because there are no positives right now. For us, the next off-season is huge. Week 5 is huge right now and we're only playing the 49ers who I'm sure you think we'll hammer as well...

Was the line about Harrison a joke or a typo? (Suspects the former.)

Was at a great gig last night so didn't get any of the action, but my observations this morning are;

- I was worried about the Cowboys in Green Bay, and even closed my eyes to check the score this morning ... but now on 3-0! Will watch the game this evening hopefully but nice to see other players do the business on a TO off day I understand.

- Dolphins beating the Pats? Where did that come from ... I'll bet Paul was doing his piece .. ;) .. honestly though, I have that damn RB in my fantasy team and had no reason to put him in ahead of Addai or Barber .. :sob:

- Cards come back down to earth, Ginats continue their great start to the season ... as do the Titans. 49ers win again? Philly tame the Steelers ...

Did I miss anything?

It was a joke. Even Feagles isn't that old ;)

For the record, I think Harrison is 36, maybe 37... but you can see reading that why we didn't keep Seau on, can't you? :)

Yep, a great shoot out in Denver where the last 5 minutes of the first half it looked like neither team wanted to take the bull by the horns... from one daft play to the next. If you can catch it, watch it!

And as my future "home" team, I'm fully behind Denver for a Superbowl run this year and might even have to cheer for the Jets tonight.

Nope, just kidding. I'd never cheer for the Jets :D

Because Seau is tragically destined to never win a ring?

Must be horrible to stay at the top of the NFL for a long and glittering career, and then have someone like Ahmad Bradshaw win a Super Bowl in his rookie season.

Bit like having a long and glittering career as a RB, then when your team has 1st and goal on the one during a Super Bowl and is up 37-3 see the ball given to the gimmicky, overweight defensive tackle.

(Here comes JLM in 3, 2, 1...)

Just so Jazman doesn't feel left out over here, "Photograph" is possibly the most dirgy/depressing song I've ever heard. ;)

The Raiders got back to normal ;)

Great result for Dallas and Miami last night. I wish I'd be on here to see the reaction.

They were one of the leading sides in my early supporting years I seem to recall, along with Buffalo used to do quite well ...

Yep I did notice that Neil ...

I'd liked to have been on here to see Paul's reaction ... can't be arsed to read back through though ...

Hi JM, Didn't you and Paulderulz have the Steelers down for an away win? Philly are looking good (apart from that little game down in Texas) and beating up one of the so-called top teams in the AFC and the other team in PA feels great this morning. Again it looks like the NFC East will be the best division in the NFL! Is the balance of power shifting back to the NFC?

Finally, what happened to the Prawn sandwich munchers down in Miami

saxoneagle 22-09-2008 01:21 PM

You should jazman!

I did. My thought was that the Steelers would take advantage of the Phillies tough beating last week .... ;)

And by that I mean I was worried about the Cowboys in Green Bay but they came through thankfully ...

I was impressed with what I saw of Dallas last night - they look improved every time I see them.

I'm just glad I know they'll choke in the play-offs :D

Strathclyde Eagle 22-09-2008 01:32 PM

Peter King highlights this week:
Quote:

Brian Griese: "There's a lot to be said for perseverance, not only in football but in life. You've got to hang in there, no matter what the environment is around you, and if you do, good things have a chance to happen."

...

...And Baltimore's opponent passer rating is 26.

...

At 5:14 p.m. ET on Sept. 21, on their 28th offensive possession of the season, the St. Louis Rams invaded the red zone of an opponent for the first time this season.
...

"You've got to have the mentality of a serial killer at quarterback sometimes,'' Childress told me Saturday.
...

(Goat of the week) Kansas City QB Tyler Thigpen. Through 19 minutes of the Chief debacle at Atlanta, Thigpen was one of 10 ... for minus-one yard, with an interception. And three minutes later, he threw another pick. How'd you like to be Herm Edwards this morning, convene a meeting of the coaching staff, and wonder aloud: "We got anybody to play quarterback the last 13 weeks?'' (nothing Saxoneagle hadn't already spotted!)
...

Brett Favre to ESPN's Ed Werder, last Thursday, on the Pack's strong two-game start: "When they have 16 good ones, then call me.''
And this book coming out about the mid-90s Cowboys sounds very interesting. King has details of Michael Irvin supposedly stabbing someone on page 5 this week.

saxoneagle 22-09-2008 01:37 PM

Wow, was I really mentioned on the clip? ;)

I have a master plan for next week - the wife is away and I plan on doing my first quarter report for each team, I'll probably start it Sunday by going through the bye week teams. For those interested, there will not be a summary on the Pats. I've had it talking about them, quite honestly and you all know my feelings already about our season.
