Satele was very good last year. Can't say I was playing close enough attention to Carey. However don't forget how many total yards Ronnie Brown had before he went down last year. Hopefully he can be a candidate for comeback player of the year this year (even if I think that 6-10 is the very best we can do).

Interesting comment I heard about Ghoulston, about him getting his sacks in a weaker conference than Dorsey was in the SEC. When I finish this post I think I'm going to try and find a review of last season's Michigan-Ohio State game to see how the two played. Think I might have to dig out some archived mock drafts too, because Ghoulston has slipped under my radar for someone who went to such a heralded college team.

Did anyone see PTI last night? Apparently the Bengals have turned down an offer of a first round pick this year and a possible first round pick next year from the Redskins for Chad Johnson. I'm amazed they didn't chaperone him to Washington immediately for that offer.

Satele was good (if penalty prone).

Carey was okay-ish...

True but it would make better TV in a way. Which is why they have shortened the amount of time available to make the pick. Looking forward to watching the draft on my phone on Saturday on the way back. Heres hoping it works on the 3G section. If you see a ****** struggling with his phone then it is me :D

I am now going for this as a potential Top 10.
1. Dolphins - Jake Long
2. Rams - Chris Long
3. Falcons - Matt Ryan or Glenn Dorsey.
4. Raiders - Dorsey, otherwise Darren McFadden
5. Chiefs - Ryan Clady or Matt Ryan or even Branden Albert
6. Jets - McFadden or Gholston
7. Patriots - Vernon Gholston, a CB OR a trade.
8. Ravens - Leodis McKelvin or Keith Rivers since Ryan isnt on the board.
9. Bengals - Sedric Ellis
10. Saints - Rodgers-Cromartie, Jenkins or McKelvin. Basically whatever CB is left on the board.

The only one of these I am not sure about is the Bengals pick. The Saints may trade up and the Pats may trade down. Ellis might go earlier if someone trades up for him.

Benzhiyi 23-04-2008 04:07 PM

Again, I'm amazed you can be sure that the Rams won't take Dorsey. Raiders could feasibly take Gholston, Jets could take Ryan. Mock drafts are fun and all, but you've been changing your mind on a daily basis and each time telling us that you're basically certain this is how it'll all turn out. :D

I reckon we might see Rashard Mendenhall go top ten. Certainly one of the first dozen will take an unexpected gamble. Hence I don't think you can be sure about anything. Even Mayock and Kiper get a load of predictions wrong, and this year it's harder to call that it has been in maybe a decade.

Sorry if I've taken your words literally - I realise they may not have been intended that way.

Harsh, very harsh. He surrendered two sacks and two penalties (one false start, one holding) the entire season. The line may have been penalty prone, but not King Samson.

I jsut dont think that the Rams will go for Dorsey. Just call it a hunch;) I said potential and didnt call it certain ;)

I have done one every week because it has changed every week. And I have done two in a row because of players I had forgotten before.

I havent said that the Raiders wont go for Gholston, or the Jets-Ryan. It is what I think will happen. I am going to do a final draft for the first few rounds on mymockdraft.com tomorrow or Friday so that I can see how much it has changed from first mock to final mock.

pauldrulez 23-04-2008 04:18 PM

Mendenhall is a good shout and some analysts have gone as far as saying he may well be as good as McFadden.

Mayock has changed his mind more than me. He has gone with McKelvin,Gholston, Rodgers-Cromartie and Branden Albert for the Patriots pick alone. I am pretty sure that Mike Jenkins and Keith Rivers have been mentioned there as well.

I'm still confident Raiders will take McFadden. They should take Dorsey but I have a feeling they won't.

5 is Dorsey, although Clady is a better fit to their needs but I don't think, if Dorsey is still here, they can overlook him.

6 is Gholston

7 will be someone else as the Pats will try to trade down otherwise will be McKelvin or Rodgers-Crom

8 (which is now Atlanta) will be Clady or Ellis (they'll pick up Brohm in round 2 as their "franchise" QB)

Well, I'm sticking with this now. I agree about Dorsey but I think Chris Long is the better option.

I still think the Ravens will trade for Ryan too which makes picking Troy Smith last year a wasted pick, in hindsight, even if it was down the board. Who knows, Atlanta might stick at 3 and pick him themselves but I think they see better value at QB in round 2 and better value lower down the top 10 in round one.

But as Ben said, I could probably be swayed any number of ways between now and Saturday!

There is always 1 player that drops way lower than predicited, last year is was Brady Quinn, who do you guys think it will be this year?

The Jets drafting Ryan would be fantastic. Have Mr throw-it-up-for-grabs in the swirling winds of the Meadowlands, wunderbar.

Won't happen though. I thought they rated Clemens quite highly? He's shown as starting QB on their depth chart at the moment (granted, not the best month to use that source).

And in case I didn't make it clear, I don't rate Mayock's draft projections. He and Adam Schefter are at opposite ends of the NFL Network's ability scale.

Ben, I possibly missed something but was a reason ever released for why he wasn't on the field in the closing minutes of the Houston game? I felt we missed him then.

And that was possibly the weirdest loss we had last year. 57 yarder as time expired for crying out loud.

If Ryan's not taken by the Ravens (at the latest) I wonder where he'll go. At the moment he's the only projected QB in the first round, there just isn't the need there at the moment. That, or teams have lots of needs and are paying attention to those first.

Looking forward to Saturday. I think it's going to be very interesting.

Benzhiyi 23-04-2008 05:07 PM

Was about to reply pretty much the same thing. Ryan could freefall Quinn-style quite easily, particularly as a lot of teams will fancy their chances of picking up Brohm, Henne or Flacco in round two, and there isn't a massive drop-off between him and any of those three.

I think the Houston game was where Satele hurt his neck, hence having to wear a protective brace for a couple of weeks afterwards.

saxoneagle 23-04-2008 06:04 PM

Yep, I agree with Ryan falling too and if Oakland don't take McFadden I still think he'll go top 10.

Sorry - too lazy to check back to find out. Did I read the other day that they are televising the draft over here this year?

If so, what channel is it on? Would love to watch that.

pauldrulez 24-04-2008 02:50 PM

One of the NFL.com experts reckon that Ryan may be doing a Brady Quinn this year. Brohm, Flacco and Henne have all got a chance of going early in the 2nd Round. Brohm may go late 1st round depending on Trades or other circumstances.

If Ryan makes it out of the Top 10 then he will probably drop like a stone.

If McFadden goes past Oakland then either someone will trade up or the Jets will take him IMO. The Bengals would take him as well (I think) but he wont fall out of the Top 10.

saxoneagle 24-04-2008 03:07 PM

If Ryan hasn't gone by Baltimore at 8, I reckon he'll fall into round 2 or someone will trade into round 1 to get him, a la Quinn.

Also talk of someone trying to trade for Quinn on draft day now Anderson is Browns longterm choice...

pauldrulez 24-04-2008 03:28 PM

I read that as well saxon. The Jared Allen trade isnt that good on the Vikings IMO. He is a liability with the drink problems that he has had.

This also affects the Patriots as the Chiefs will probably draft Gholston at 5 now.

Ryan may well drop into Round 2 or very late Round 1. I think he may break the record for longest wait if he gets past Baltimore.
