Laugh at me all you like across multiple threads. I am secure in the knowledge that however sad my life becomes I will never be packing a lunch for work. EVER, not even on an occasional basis.

I always thought the old wimbledon supporters were freaks and willing to step up against Palace fans calling their fellow fans Nigels. For SO many years I was SO wrong. Such sadcase nigels, our support is riddled with them, but it is taken a random dart throw in the dark to uncover this seething, slithering nerdfest of nigelism.

50% of adult BBSers responding take a packed lunch into their work. Most in a Super Mario backpack. Does it annoy me, I dont know. I think it might annoy me to think I probably sat next to them at matches thinking they were normal, but they had this terrible, terrible secret. Why didnt I get my hearing tested just once, surely I would have heard the squeeks emitting from their tight chuffs - some sort of clue.

People who fail to understand that sometimes for the family or yourself you have to make adjustments. Particularly when times are tight. That may well mean taking a pack lunch to work because its a lot cheaper than paying for a coffee and a sandwich. The saving making the difference each week to the family budget. If a few sandwiches maybe some packet soup and a small chocolate bar everyday saves what shall we say nowdays £9 for coffee a sandwich. 4x9 £36 cost of packed lunch for week £9. Then sometimes its no bloody option and I would not worry about them sitting next to me a football they might not be.... or there again they could be if the savings on lunch has funded the ticket. Hey ho everyone is as well off nowdays no need to budget just put it on credit pay for it when you can.........rant over

Hotel check in / check out times.
Why can't I in big hotels opt for early check in & early check out or late check in & late check out if that benefits my travel plans?
Logically it would reduce queues at reception just after 2pm, just before 11am. Would save hotels needing to store luggage for guests and give maids longer window for room cleaning.

Crap magnetic strip key-cards that don't work if they have been within 40 miles of any electronic device. :frown:

I havebreqd alot of your posts recently and ignored most of them as it jystcseems to me that you are trying very hard to be something or someone you are not, which in itself is quite sad.
I take a packed lunch to work everyday, i work for a boss who would pay for my lunch each day if inwanted to let him but i dont like taking advantage of peoples kindness. I could also afford to buy lunch if i chose to but why spend the extra money when that could be used better elsewhere. I am very happy for you and all you have achieved in your life, living in Chile must be amazing. So why do you spend so much time on here attacking people who maybe have not as much as you?

It's because the cards can be reprogrammed after every stay for any other room. You'll never see a room number on a card as they are programmed with the room number on checking in. I quite like them as its more convenient than a key on a numbered key fob to carry around as you just put the card in a wallet or your back pocket. Also if you lose it there's no indication of the room number so it would be less easy for someone to gain entry to your room.

Agree on the check-in times, a lot of do hotels offer this but at an extortionate price. I suppose you would have to almost guarantee that the room was unoccupied the previous night to assure a pre-booked early check in?

To take the thread away from the great Panama hat and lunch box debate for s minute.

People who bang on about their holidays incessantly. Before they even go in them. If I was remotely interested in your Luis Vuitton passport cover I would have asked. Five more weeks of this drivel.

Best way to deal with that is to go on about it incessantly once they return, ensure the post holiday depression really sets in.

They already know that they delivered it when they said they would cos their computer says so. There is nothing else to know.

Sadly many companies think that embracing the service and relationship opportunities of the digital economy means stalking their customers with spam, which is, ironically, bad service

I hate how when I walk down a railway platform, just killing time or to take in a slightly different view, I'm bombarded with Samaritans posters. It's mortifying that someone might be watching and profiling my appearance to gauge how likely it is that I'm going to jump into a train. Even if I was suicidal, I wouldn't walk all the way to the end of the platform; I'd want people to watch.

I have moved into a new flat and for some reason they decided to put fire alarm directly above oven/hob. I have barely cooked a meal without it going off - and it is quite deafening worried about sprinklers going off etc. Extraction fan is barely effective and only solution seems to be open all windows plus balcony doors. V annoying

Usually they have a button to temporarily disable them. Discovered this on holiday after spending the week flapping a tea towel at it each time I cooked.

Thank you, actually just seen something online about this 'hush' button. I expect I have been entertaining for people in pub garden opposite - seen violently flapping all manner of household items from tea towels, pizza boxes, oven gloves and baking trays lol!

I'm currently seconded to another office and working with a real life david Brent. He took an interview earlier and berated the candidate for having an interest in dinosaurs. This guy has Storm troopers plastered across his screen and desk and doesn't get the irony.

The optimist in me would say that this Brent character was using tactics to see how the potential employee reacted when under pressure eg being questioned on a very personal preference. It can possibly reveal the interviewees true character. However, as per your impression of him, and most probably the reality, is that the Brent guy is just a twat!

Your post does not make sense.

How have you simultaenously read a lot of my posts AND ignored them at the same time.

I can hazard a good guess that most of you have more than me. I was giving up that option when I moved here.

Seems I was giving up the necessity of taking a packed lunch in as austerity dug its heels in.

I left you lot a fine country and by your own incompetences, electoral choices, and willingness to allow the banks to collectively screw you all over, you have all managed to destroy it to the point of Brexit.

You may rail against that comment, and be offended, and attack me as being wrong and arrogant, but you are only kidding yourselves. Britain is not the place it was 20 years ago. London in particular is a numb shell of the fun place it used to be. And I supect that is mostly borne out by how people are absolutely desperate to avoid being made redundant from joyless, soul sapping jobs. And cant wait to put in the required hours and just get home to some semblance of happy existence.

Is that all a bit too 1984, but are there uncomfortable truths amid that madness?

I might not ever know, because you may read this or ignore it. Or you may do that strange reading/ignoring thing you are great at.

I know I am an ugly twat, I have had to grow up with that. An ugly twat that has never had to take lunch into work. If I combined the two, I think I would throw myself under Elgins train.

I dont see many pics of packed lunches. I think we should have a daily photo session of that, maybe a dedicated thread. Of course all pics must include the lunchee witha thumbs up smiley. Proud of his healthy options and frugality. As proud as a half and half shirt wearing Brighton fan I suspect.

Ok just to make it clear to you. I read your posts but try to not to react to them as thats the reason you write most of the rubbish you do. However your last few posts are very correct, London had changed massively and is not the place it was, it has almost become stupidly expensive. Just had a bloke at the train station ask me for a £2 coin for two £1s and I gave it to him not thinking as running a bit late. Went over for a parking ticket and it didn't work (luckily I had more) looked around and spotted him in his car so waited around the corner for the bast@rd to go back to the machine. When I collared him about it he went red, said yes, turned on his heel and swiftly went back to his car, gutless bellend, I wasn't even being aggressive as such.

What really annoyed me was that there's a cafe next to the machine he could've used instead of stitching me up.

Filling up the dishwasher, turning it on & the little 'salt' light comes on. So I have to open it back up, reach over loads of dirty plates & pans, undo the salt receptacle, try & pour in a load of salt without spilling loads in the dishwasher, standing three feet away from the salt receptacle due to the horizontal, open dishwasher door whilst reaching over the aforementioned dirty plates & pans.

Annoys me every ******* time.

Didn't she recently ask Tim Peake if he'd brought a piece of the moon back with him?

Yep.

She has an average amount of talent and comes across as pretty thick at times.

She makes sure she gets attention by dressing to please the tabloids/twitter.

Annoys me every ******* time.

I thought if the salt light comes on after you have set the dishwasher off it only needs to be refilled before next use.

Trying to do bank transfers and the like and having to jump through hoops with security details.

Any little change and I have to speak to someone on a helpdesk, in Spanish.

I am fine, I understand them, but they switch off with my pronunciation, and it all gets very painful.

I also have to get a refund on some concert tickets - same excrutiating process.

However your last few posts are very correct, London had changed massively and is not the place it was, it has almost become stupidly expensive. People are now trapped in jobs that they dont like and are unpaid. And your right again you are an ugly twat.

Indeed. I can agree with all of that.

It certainly scares me a bit to think of property prices and worse rental prices. Christ only knows what a zone 5 annual season ticket on transport costs.

One thing I suspect has happened, and I need you all to confirm, is that inner and outer London employers have used austerity to cut back on benefits. When I worked up town, we had free lunch (although taxable / bet that wasnt taxable in the House of Commons), and a we could get an interest free loan each year for the travel ticket. Have these things been cut back radically?

It still does annoy me when companies use this excuse to make savings - even when the companies themselves are doing fairly well, or their area of the company is not directly affected. As in, banks laying off workers in unrelated sectors of their business. You know they are grasping an opportunity to remove salaries and replace later down the line with cheaper workers on shittier contracts.

The 10 years of austerity has led to an accumulation of these cuts to pay and conditions. The banks have recovered, but none of the benefits have trickled down to employees, borrowers or savers, so society hasnt benefitted just the utter clowns that caused the mess in the first place. And successive governments have done nothing. It is a shocking state of affairs. It annoys me that 1) they did/do it 2) governments allow it 3) people dont react - they just accept their jobs and lifes being screwed over.

If people are earning less then they have less purchasing power. This seems to be borne out by less spending in pubs, more packed lunches and the like. Yet prices continue to be increased - how does that economic modal work. It goes against all basic economic principal.

On the other hand, people do have enough for expensive gadgets, multiple cars, and multiple foreign holidays - things I would have thought to be the first to go if people are feeling the pinch.

See what pissed me off about your posts is the assumption that everyone was having the wonderful life you were in the city before you left for Chile. Free lunches, free loans etc etc. That life in the late 70's and 80's was a bed of roses.
Now idiots like me who took objection to post on packed lunches might remember a different life.
Mid 70's I finished and apprenticeship in a Crane Manufacture in Letchworth a pretty Garden city work was plentiful as the engineering firms competed for you. Within what 4 years of the first redundancy the employment in the town had been destroyed it lost the crane manufacture, furniture, gears for cars, dustbin lorries. As a young guy I got out early, was doing ok then into the defence industry where my Dad worked. I watch that in the ten years 1980-90 be decimated in reverse not 1 in 10 gone but 9 in 10. Hey its ok though you were fine down in London.
So my old man and I at various times took a packed lunch he use to take a flask as well. You know what if he had not there were times when we would of been short on food on the table. But hey you take the piss dont want to sit with the scum tight wads that eat a pack lunch. You know what its such crap that given a choice of sitting in the stand with the like of you or those that take pack lunches I would without hesitation sit with those that have.
But dont worry I will try not to sully your enjoyment of watching football.
What I care about what pissed me off so much about your crap post was how you in one post had dismissed the sacrifices my father made for me to eat . Now me and him had our rows but bloody hell I respect everything he did for me. So when I have go on some other thread your moronic response remains like the first post pathetic.
I finish it off as well for you do something about is your cry some of us tried , and succeeded. There was one that sticks with me one of the last things I helped with at work only in a very small way maybe entailed each employee to free tea or coffee on tap whenever. Its a little thing maybe but I drank the first free cup and thought of my Dad

Mr Mojo Risin 29-10-2017 12:19 PM

This thread descending into arguments about the morality of bringing a packed lunch into work. Sometimes I take a packed lunch. Sometimes I go to the work canteen. Sometimes I go out on a team lunch. Sometimes I get a sandwich from Sainsburys or if I am feeling particularly flush, Waitrose. I don't think any of these options are controversial.

And back onto the thread topic, the clocks going back. An extra hour today is nice but I hate the fact it will now start getting dark at 5pm.

Wading through FB or Yahoo! articles of absolute drivel such as 'One million ways to use baking soda' or 'A Zillion things to do to improve your pathetic lowlife existence', 'How to make a Titanic liner out of two million bits of Lego' or somesuch nonsense. Shuffling past this pile of utter crap wastes more time than it's meant to save & if you DO read it you only need to know one thing...how to kill yourself with a single bullet.

And breathe.

I am glad for you that you have got that off your chest.

A long time to hold that inside.

In the 1970s my dad was a newspaper printer, my mum was a manic depressive stay at home sherry drinker. My dad worked and then came home, cleaned the house and took care of the kids. He could cook one meal - rabbit stew, and we had it three days a week for what seemed like six years. He also bought water damaged stock from wallys in Catford, and we lived on soggy sugar puffs and corn flakes. A treat was getting a nesquick or soda stream when visiting my cousins.

When my parents divorced, amd my mother was placed in a mental home, I spent 4 teenage years in a childrens home. At 19 I had some drunken twat beat the living crap out of me. That led to me moving back to South London. From 1986 to 2000 I luckily fell into a number of jobs that allowed me to grow. But lets not assume that my life was always easy. Not so easy seeing my nan and mum converted into zombies from electric shock treatment, and spending the years 13 to 21 having to work it all out without any parental support at all. But continue to lecture me mate.

We all have stories from the past mate. The 1970s is not 2017.

People working in a job that requires a packed lunch is one thing. Another is those that occasionally take a lunch in. Another is those that need to save some money at some point in time. I am rallying against those that can afford various options, but chose to organise their life in such a way to prepare a lunch religiously to take in when they dont really need to.

I find that a bit odd, maybe a bit eccentric British in a way. It reminds me of the Mr Bean park bench scene. But that is just my view. That it has upset so many to this degree is frankly hilarious. And I would suggest becasue of that the problem doesnt rest with me posting hurtful comments on the BBS.

My only issue would be to keep it to a couple of threads, and not trawl every thread I am posting on. You want to take issue with me, then keep it on the threads concerned. Dont follow me around the BBS with your faix outrage.

Silly sausage.

LOL
