Couple mid to late 20's sat there in the coffee shop for 15 minutes not a word passed between them whilst they flicked and scrolled on phones - Young girl sitting there texting scrolling just nodding to her Mum who was trying to engage her in conversation the world is ****ed - finally turned in to my Dad. I would have dropped it in the Coffee if my wife or daughters sat their doing that no matter how ******* boring they think I am!

Another driving one... people who almost grind to a halt when doing a right turn (that would be a left turn in The UK).

I'm not expecting them to go up on two wheels while turning, but I'm not sure why the need to slow to a crawl either.

Nothing against kids being there, but during a time when schools out or at the weekend. That way I can plan around them. Just read some reviews on Trip Advisor, and people are so oblivious to this, and think it's grand they get cheaper rates and the kids get the pool all to themselves... bastards! Of course they get the pool to themselves... nobody else whats to be around them screaming and yelling so leave!

Without wanting to start a separate thread about school holidays, I do have a question about this.

In the UK do all schools start their summer holidays on the same date, or do different schools/counties etc. have different end of term dates?

I ask, because apparently here in The US the dates are all over the place locally, statewide or across the states. The end of term (semester here) for the summer break can range from the end of May to the start of July.

So basically I have fallen foul to thinking kids would still be in school this week based on our local schools still being in session, but find the place we are going to get away inundated with kids of all ages. This has nothing to do with being taken out of school... they are on genuine summer break based on where they go to school.

Frustrating, but fool is us, so have to suck it up.

Most UK schools have the same holidays. Private schools are usually slightly longer. We haven't got the vast range of weather and timezones and States and all that stuff that you have in the US which might account for the variation in holidays?

I wouldn't say 'most' amymore.
Nottinghamshire and Derby obviously border each other but are very often different. For example Notts has 2 weeks off in October, Derby have 1. The easter holidays this year were also different - they both had 2 weeks but one started a week later and ended a week later. Leicestershire usually start earlier than both of them.

Hedgehog 18-06-2019 01:09 AM

Thanks guys, sounds like it’s within a week at the most in The UK. Looks like a five or six week spread here for summer.

bubbs11 18-06-2019 02:22 AM

Scottish schools always close for the summer at least 2 weeks earlier than the English ones. It’s common for Scots families to rush off on their hols at the beginning of July before the English families turn up and ruin the ambience. ;)

Found that hard when I first moved up here, starting the new school term in mid August. Felt wrong, like I should still be off.

I believe private schools have differing term times too.

Worksop Palace 18-06-2019 06:27 AM

Changed this year up here. 5 weeks for summer instead of 6 and 2 weeks in October instead of 1.

Why don't you go to a cafe con piernas? Much better than the corporate shite.

Although, granted, at the high end of town they are pretty scarce.

Cafe Caribe or Haiti make a very decent cortado downtown. And not sleaxt enough for darkened windows. :afro:

No issue with that. Some people are even polite enough to say, 'Sorry, I forgot the cornflakes'. We've all done it.

It's the ones who abandon the trollies for ages whilst the queue is trying to move. And usually more than once. They tend to find their trollies 20ft away after the third time.

And don't get me started on the pikeys who stand in the basket only queue with their trollies. Although, ones with a child in the trolley and just a few items are also excused. I am, on occasions, quite a reasonable person.

Obviously the sensible option, but I think everyone’s hoping he’ll realise this for himself so no-one has to make a scene, but the fact that a grown man is into the stuff in the first place would suggest he’s not playing with a full deck anyway and we could be in for a long wait.

The influence of the Ameiricanisation of politics. Seen it on clips from the U.K and over here. People standing behind a speaker holding up vote (insert political party) here ,is that really going to influence an opinion or vote. The one that really grinds my gears and the Libs (conservative) party do it here. The flag lapel pin. It's either I am a better patriot than you, or I can't remember which country I live in.

Not sure if this is due to ‘Americanisation,’ but ‘socialism’ as a term losing all its meaning. People who advocate for a Nordic style social democracy (myself included), which is fundamentally capitalism with some positive socialist elements, get labelled or self label as socialists. Perhaps the scaredy cat American political tendency to call anything that isn’t 100% ruthless capitalism ‘socialism’ has seeped into the UK.

Is it ok if I do a 30 minute warm down?

Tend to agree with this . I think I would say I was a socialist, but, not a communist. Which I get the impression most Americans don't know the difference. I know we are leaving a lot of people behind.

The seagull that defecates gloriously on our car every morning. I swear he knows I’m Palace. What a mess he makes.

I see him brazenly standing on top of my porch sometimes, looking at my car admiring his handy work. He’s clearly chuffed with himself.

One more paint splattered poop session on my motor and 30 years of vegetarianism and respecting the lives of our fellow creatures is seriously going out of the window.

You should ask him if he wants to buy it seeing as he's so keen to give you a large deposit

Brick Walls ... you fall over knock your head on them when taking the dog for a walk. Ends up you are knocked out the wife gets called by passing neighbour finds me in her words in a pool of blood. Get rushed to hospital blues and twos whilst waking up..
scanned ...then stitched up. Lucky no hair left as would of needed shaving.
One thing to add Dylan the Boxer never left my side refused to go to anyone until wife arrived on battle scene.
Ok now except for sore head
