Great minds, and all that, I prefer the Royal Albert Hall edition though. 49:20 and crank your speakers up to maximum. And if you're like me, you'll let it run and listen to Ella Eyre afterwards. :)

Those pop proms do nothing for me but each to their own. What I meant was when a classical orchestra takes pop songs and plays them like grandiose orchestral works. For me, it’s not a match made in heaven but anyone is of course free to differ.

Agree if its the Philharmonic does the Clash or the Beatles or even Abba but those two Vids are amazing. Royal Albert Hall is even better than the O2! Thanks for posting

I'm sure there are - i was probably generalising too much, and certainly wouldn't wish to offend any genuinely talented people.

Offend away! I was wondering what you meant by "modern" though.

There was an article on the subject in Monday's Guardian: https://www.theguardian.com/culture/...real-musicians

It was pretty badly written work experience kid/"will this do?" in the main, but I agree with this:

Quote:

Of course, some DJs are basically human iPods, using a premixed set for their performances (the equivalent of a singer miming to a backing track). But the best DJs have always also been musicians, live remixers and live producers – skilfully layering and manipulating sounds and bringing different elements together in a new form of creative expression.

I guess by "modern" i mean that years ago DJ's only ever played records - they never or very rarely "made" them whereas in the last 20 years some DJ's have become artists in their own right.

Ah, OK - thanks for replying.

It's been a lot longer than 20 years though, and I'm not talking about such classics as "Convoy G.B." or "It Takes Two, Baby".

Does anyone else's wife just leave a trail of jobs/destruction behind them? I've lost count of the times I've unblocked sinks this year, also I've repaired our hoover so many times it must have few original parts. Despite my advice to never stretch the lead (just move it to another socket). Don't run it when it's nearly full or when hair is tangled around the brush bar.... I give up.

pallet 07-02-2021 11:02 AM

Mine does all of that plus leaves cupboard doors open, it drives me mad

Terrace Bickle 07-02-2021 11:06 AM

Also don't get me started on the hair left everywhere. I won't see 80 as I'll become ensnared and have a fall well before.

The electrics tripped this morning and there was a burning smell from her using the toaster (I rarely touch it). It was news that you have to empty the crumb tray. I just did it and almost half a loaf came out.

I'm sure I've mentioned it before but mine chucks everything into the bathroom cabinet & rushes to shut the cabinet door, knowing full well that when the next person opens it (normally me), everything just falls out - packets, tubes, boxes, everything - all over the floor. Every ******* time.

My good wife is incapable of putting things back where she found them, which means I end up having to search for everything when I need it. She also has a cleaning obsession and leaves the hoover lying out in places that I’m not expecting; so if I’m not stubbing my toe on it, I’m tripping over it or worse...treading on the upturned plug! :sob:

And what does she say each time I scream out in anger and pain? ‘Why don’t you look where you’re going then?’

Every BBC report seems to include the word 'albeit' and once we near the end of the season you know every football report is going to mention a teams 'penultimate' game.

For some reason that brought back a memory. I used to stay with my Nan while my mum as working and the gas man would come around to empty the meter but he would sit down at the kitchen table have a cup of tea and a biscuit and then he would give a chunk of the cash back to my Nan. I have no idea if this was normal or not but it happened regularly enough. Anyone remember? They were pensioners but it never crossed my mind until just now - why did she get some of it back?

So no smutty innuendos please - this is my Nan we are talking about and besides I was sitting there with them stuffing my face with biscuits so..... :)

Cheers

On here I can provoke a reaction.

At home I could do the shopping, cook lunch, wash the dishes, tidy generally, sit and watch 5 minutes of football and get the comment, 'football again'.

My pet peeve is when she has a lazy day...she stays in bed, I bring brunch etc. She tells me to ignore her because she knows she is irrationally snappy. Then at 7pm she tries to reverse her laziness by going to the other extreme...that generally involves moving furniture about...taking curtains down..painting something..

Of course, I cant be seen to be comfortable doing nothing.

These days I can see that day of misery a miles off.

Other peeve is when I don't jump to join in their spontaneous plans...even when I have taken a run up three days earlier with reminders that Palace are playing.
Usually means they go out and I avoid the nervous last 10 minutes of games houseworking to earn brownie pts.

I've mentioned it before, but there is nothing more annoying than huffing and puffing up an incline on your "normal" bike and being overtaken by some old biddy on an e-bike who gives you a cheery "Good Morning" as they zip past you!

Although there are a number of funny clips on Youtube in which the perps get caught red handed. Watching them having to manually put their garbage back in their trucks is priceless. What took seconds to tip, can take hours to throw back.

Probably. I'm not planning to mellow in my old age. I'm going to enjoy being one of those pensioners who shouts at randoms in the street. Probably while pissing down my trousers.

People who take shopping trolleys from the supermarket and leave them by the side of the road.

People wearing sunglasses in the middle of winter.
Today for example it's just not that bright.

The low level of the winter sun can make sunglasses appropriate

Nonsense unless you have a medical condition you really dont need to be wearing sunglasses, we're not in the alps.

I find driving into a low sun in winter especially in the early morning or late afternoon quite impossible without sunglasses. I wouldn't think being in five degrees' lower latitude would make much difference. Other than for driving though I tend to agree.
