My bank website is being particularly annoying lately.

First after entering your password you have to hit the "sign in" tab rather than just hitting "enter" on the keyboard.

Then the first thing you get upon entering is an ad for either obtaining a loan or getting a new credit card... I always hit "No thanks", but it always comes up next time I log in. Also tried "remind me later", but doesn't seem to help.

Lastly (for now) the whole experience appears bogged down by security and double checking. I appreciate their concern, but I suspect hackers would just laugh at all this. The moving between screens or actions grinds along. I've turned off the requirement to get an authorization code sent to my phone which was a pain, but now it still asks me periodically to provide my ZIP code and my date of birth to "authenticate" I am who I say I am.

Martin H 08-11-2022 07:40 PM

Hackers don't laugh, they just target the people that turned off the auth code :) and spend most of their time investing other people s money.

Thames water havent billed me for 3 YEARS for no apparent reason, then this week sent me a massive bill for £2200.

Part of me thinks its my fault for not realising that no payments have been requested for ages, but on the other hand why should I chase for payments to them!

If it is any consolation, Thames Water put debt collectors on to me for several months, (who I repeatedly told to feck off, literally) because they had mistakenly been billing another address that I have never lived at in my name. I eventually sorted this out by contacting TW and of course it would have been a right bummer for the occupant of the other address who had been getting their water for free:D

I have that, and I use "Touch ID" to log in. You are right, it is much more "user friendly", but I do prefer making transaction on the "big screen" of the PC.

P.S. Sorry about going all "Trolley" there!

If you have an android phone then you can get a gizmo which makes your computer screen as second screen and you can use keyboard and mouse
I got one of those for my wife to post her craft stuff on Instagram.

Interesting... sound like a good "gizmo" to have, shame I have an iPhone.

I suspect somewhere out there, there is a similar item for the iPhone.

This ones for Maidstoned Eagle...

Firefox is my browser of choice. This morning it all locked up, Chrome was working just fine. It seemed the best Google advice was to uninstall Firefox and then re-install, which I did. Got into all sorts of binds which I attributed to my antivirus software (which I ended up turning off). Finally got it back, but it had wiped out all my bookmarks and settings, which I got back from a folder that when uninstalling it created for a place holder for the settings. Just spent too much time resetting all my usernames and passwords where needed.

Biggest disappointment - and this is for you ME... is I have lost all my Wordle history/stats for the last 3 months or so.

I least I didn't loose my Beatles tracks from iTunes!

KYLIE MINEAGLE 10-11-2022 09:14 PM

Going to the gym and realising you have'nt charged your ear buds and having to listen to the crap music they play. If I want to go clubbing I will knock 45 years off my age and lie at the door. Most of it is shit remixes of what I listened to when I did go clubbing (or disco as was then.

Blimey two posts on this thread in a week , am I close to taking over from HH ?

As an aside, is it true that the Spanish dubbing of Fawlty Towers had Manuel being from Mexico?

And while looking that up on Wiki, I learnt that Andrew Sachs was actually born in Germany... something for the "Things I've learnt Today" thread.

The waste associated with Covid-19 test kits must be phenomenal based on our experiences. We still have 4 boxes all rendered useless as they haven''t contained phials of the liquid agent needed for the test.

I've had a bad reaction to the Pfizer booster, which is ironic as it's the 1st time I didn't feel the jab at all.
I just had a temperature and pins and needles on the day.
However, for 2 weeks+ I had a painful dull ache in the muscle, which was worse at night preventing me from sleeping. Thankfully that has lessened but I now have pins and needles shooting down my arm when I'm resting it and my thumb goes to sleep!
I can only assume they may have hit a nerve, but I bloody hope it's not permanent. Needless to say I'm not chancing the flu jab.

El Aguila 14-11-2022 09:02 AM

Fair enough, I guess it's a lottery, depends on health etc. Unfortunately my wife broke her arm on Friday. She was lucky as I got her to A&E early PM, so only waited 5hrs in total. She said she chatted to several people who couldn't get GP appointments, but had serious symptoms they couldn't ignore (breathing difficulty etc). You can't even get through to our GP on the phone at all. People working in the NHS have my sympathy. It's beyond broken

As you say, it is a lottery. I'm probably temping fate here but I've been incredibly lucky with the NHS treatment I've had over the past few years.

Even in deepest darkest Dorset it's been smashing. A few weeks ago I had trouble walking due to being bone idle/having a red & swollen & immovable big toe. I rang the GPs on the Thursday evening and even though they hadn't yet completed my registration I got a call back the next morning offering me an appointment on Tuesday. The next day I had blood tests and BP and as they was a bit high due to me being stressed as a bastard I came in on Thursday for a double-check and all was fine.

I've also had my OAP/physically infirm Covid booster but am a few years off being eligible for the flu jab.

Back on topic - Geoff Lemon.

El Aguila 14-11-2022 12:29 PM

So you could walk to your FREE appointment, then?

I am also not elegible for the flu jab, and neither are my children, but they give it to you if you ask for it (and COVID likewise), as long as you have a good reason.

west country boy 14-11-2022 12:34 PM

Yes I could (with CRUTCHES) as I'd been gout-ridden for four weeks and was finally on the mend by said Tuesday, Captain Prurience.

Are over-60s not eligible for influenza jabs in Madrid?

El Aguila 14-11-2022 12:39 PM

I had the COVID booster and then the flu jab about 6 weeks back and it was fine, then about a month back I had a shingles shot and had the painful bruise like arm that lasted going on 3 weeks. She said she chatted to several people who couldn't get GP appointments, but had serious symptoms they couldn't ignore (breathing difficulty etc). You can't even get through to our GP on the phone at all. People working in the NHS have my sympathy. It's beyond broken

I had both in one day a couple of weeks ago with very mild side effects - shivering in the middle of the night and that was about it.

He posted a picture of Charles Dickens to imply that your prose needs a bit of work. As in the well known phrase 'he / she can write a bit but he / she is no Charles Dickens'. Hope this helps.

Perhaps you are thinking that Maz reads his post with great expectations and is often left asking for more?

Anyway, I'm sure it is actually a picture of James Joyce to reflect his acknowledgement of the genius of the posts, in contrast to others who may struggle when reading them.
