Could be silly but could have a lot to do with the time invested in Romo. Only time will tell, but there are a lot of Cowboys fans that last season was the last straw for Romo. Those that have any sense will see that our cap position will not give us much leverage in bringing in a new QB. I'm not sure about it, I've always had a soft spot for Romo but even I was losing my patience. However, he is crying out for support so perhaps that is what they will have to get him along with this new contract.

Joking aside Jaz .... I don't rate Romo .... He's 33 next month and only won one play off game ....... He isn't worth that much!!

Still it's Jerry's money so who cares!!!! Muwahahaha!!! ;)

The thing is, Romo isn't worth that much. However, he's in a category of quarterback where the cost/likelihood/opportunity of getting someone else of that quality or better means that the team has to do a deal with him. Therefore he gets that kind of money.

Just been invited to a wedding on draft weekend. Does anyone know what time it starts this year UK time? I want to watch as much of it as possible if I can!

I really don't believe he is worth that money at all either, but hey, it's not mine. But I do wonder what is going on in Jerry's head to throw this kind of money at him. He has money to burn so let him burn it I guess.

Rodgers wants $23-24million a year.

At what point are the QBs going to realise that they're costing teams.

What would be the harm in taking $16m and getting 2 more O-linemen for a line that he moans about?

Strathclyde Eagle 01-04-2013 01:12 PM

I think they've all seen Brady put money aside but then not have the team invest in players around him. You could argue it doesn't pay for QBs to be unselfish.

Whichever side of that argument you fall on, it ignores the issue of the salary cap. Even the least successful franchises seen to make a shit load of money, of which the QB's are no doubt one of the biggest reason for.

It's not surprising that the better ones want their reward.

This will be Rodgers' first big contract, completely understandable that he wants a pay day, especially when looking at what flacco and romo have just got. I could see him doing a Brady 6 years later in his career when he will be at the same stage as Brady.

?

They invested in the Gronk and Hernandez... on his Offensive Line... $10m for Welker last year, $30m for Amendola, Lloyd/Ocho in years past too. Not to mention the money for Wilfork, Mayo and the move to a young defense.

It's not like they don't spend the cap money.

Romo had better have a decent season after Jerry has shown such faith in him. I fear he may buckle under the pressure yet again though. First game of the season, the media will be talking about nothing but his contract and all eyes will be on him...don't choke Tony, please.

Although it's a 6 year deal, realistically it's only a 3 year deal. Hopefully in those 3 years, Jerry will have found the long term replacement for Romo.

I have received nothing but mocking texts since the deal was agreed, so I really want to prove all my mates wrong.

Watching a rough cut of our @30for30 about the 1983 NFL Draft (coming next month). Multiple fan bases will need group therapy after this.
I don't know if you guys get the 30 for 30 documentaries over there, but this should be real good.

A day after being spotted with new New England Patriots teammate Danny Amendola working out at USC, Tom Brady was back on the field at the Trojans' facility and throwing passes to an unlikely target Wednesday: Terrell Owens.

Owens, who last played in an NFL game during the 2010 season, tweeted about the workout, noting it also involved Minnesota Vikings and former Patriots quarterback Matt Cassel.
And the Falcons dumped a pretty good RT on the free agent market.
Quote:

The Atlanta Falcons pulled a bit of a surprise Thursday morning. They’re in the process of releasing starting right tackle Tyson Clabo.

He has started every game since 2008, but this is an economic move. The Falcons are only about $2 million under the salary cap and will need more than that to eventually sign their draft picks.

In the short term, Clabo’s release will clear up only about $900,000 in cap space. But the significant thing here is that Clabo will be designated as a June 1 release. After June 1, Clabo’s release will free up about $4.5 million.

What does this mean on the field?

It could mean the Falcons think Lamar Holmes, a third-round pick last year, is ready to start. As of now, he and Mike Johnson would compete for the starting spot. But the Falcons also could look for a tackle in the upcoming draft.

Apologies, the perception is that they don't max out in regard to putting talent around him. They certainly draft wisely. However some people go back to years like 2006 when going to the Super Bowl relied on Brady having a pass caught by Reche Caldwell as a reason to continue this argument.
