Well, some of you were even doubting Cassel would be traded. Well done Paul. I give you the benefit of the doubt on this one. A lot of people on here should enjoy another piece of humble pie even if it wasn't a 1st round pick.

I'll take my leave, but I have to add my final comment on this trade.

a) Belichick vs Pioli. I think I know who has done better on this deal.

b) Vrabel was due a bonus on Monday as well as shoulder surgery, so Pioli knew he could get him on the cheap.

c) I'm shock there is no other pick involved, even from 2010. A conditional 6th rounder on Cassel even. Bit like the pick for Favre last year but of less value.

Finally, what makes me doubt Belichick right now is the 3-way trade.

Bucs get Cutler.
Pats get #12 pick in the draft.
Denver get Cassel and 3rd rounder.

This pick was all ready to go, but it was vetoed NOT by the Broncos, but by the PATRIOTS.

I have a bad feeling this deal came from Belichick-Pioli.

At the end of it all, I would have taken anything for Cassel last August.

I'll be in and out of the thread every so often with the news, so i'll give you one final link to view the reactions of the Broncos.

From ABC comes a scary story out of Florida. Three NFL players are on a fishing boat that is missing off the Gulf Coast in Clearwater.

One reportedly plays for the Lions, and another plays for the Raiders.

A 21-foot boat with four passengers left from Clearwater Pass at 6:30 a.m. EST on Saturday. It was due to return after dark but never arrived.

A friend called the Coast Guard at 1:30 a.m. EST on Sunday and reported the boat missing.

Per the report, officials say that the Gulf waters are extremely choppy and that it’s believed the boat is in distress.

Rumours are that its Daunte Culpepper of the Lions and the boat owner is Marquis Cooper of the Raiders. That comes from their relevant forums.

I have to say that is a RUMOUR only for now.

The Raiders LB is correct. Lions DE Corey Smith is the other.

I think i've said this before, but NFL.com sucks for news like this. Same with ESPN.

No mention of this on either page, pretty bad for an organisation this big. Pretty shocking really.

Since i've already proved I cant stay away a week (I tried to leave this thread alone last week as I have sort of ruined my entire personal life but thats a long story), i'm coming back with none of the 3 Ps. No Predictions, No Purposefully annoying some of you (tool) and finally No Patriots repetitiveness.

Although I'd like to ask a question about another P.

Julius Peppers. A 3-4 DE or LB. As according to a Carolina reporter, Peppers is either a Patriot or a Dolphin this week, depending on who the last team on his list is. Pats forums reckon a LB opposite AD, but others reckon if he was a Phin he would be a DE in front of Porter.

He may not be the right option for DE or LB in a 3-4, but if he is trying to do the transition this late in his career (and for the Panthers sake with $1.5m cap room he will be going), what position is better for him in your opinions.

My final thoughts on the Cassel situation

And the Broncos fans appear to be distressed about Cassel. Rumours are that Belichick refused the 3-way trade due to the Parcells Unwritten rule that Mangini broke and now McDaniels has broken in taken Free Agents from the team you are coming from almost straight away.

Anyway, the point of all that is, what sort of Head Coach attempts to trade away the 4th best QB in the AFC? And for Matt Cassel, someone who the majority of passing yards came from YAC (stolen from Ben) when his two top Receivers are deep threats.

But, I believe that Cassel is a good fit in KC. Same with Vrabel. Cassel has his deep threat in Bowe and his Welker-type player in Gonzalez. Improve that OL in the draft and they are in business.

Asked for a reaction from the newspaper, Stuart Schuyler, who is Nick's father, said: "Like God heard me."

The men were reported missing Sunday, and the Coast Guard had searched about 16,000 square miles of ocean for the 21-foot Everglades-manufactured boat by Monday morning.

Everglades boats are built with compressed foam encased in Fiberglas, which makes them difficult or impossible to sink.

Petty Officer Sondra-Kay Kneen confirmed searchers located a boat. No further details were available.

Waves had subsided to 6 to 8 feet, still enough for a small craft advisory, but considerably smaller than the 15-foot waves Sunday, National Weather Service meteorologist Todd Barron said.

Family members believed the men had lifejackets and flares on board. The Coast Guard had not received a distress signal from the men.

Cooper owns the boat, and he and Smith, who were teammates with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2004, have been on fishing trips before, according to Ron Del Duca, Smith's agent.

Coast Guard Capt. Timothy M. Close said at least one of the men was an experienced boater, and relatives provided the Coast Guard with GPS coordinates from previous fishing expeditions.

The 29-year-old Smith of Richmond, Va., is 6-foot-2, 250 pounds and had 30 tackles, including three sacks, and an interception in 12 games last season for the winless Lions.

Cooper, 26, who is 6-foot-3, 230 pounds, has spent five seasons with five different teams, appearing in 26 games with the Buccaneers in 2004 and 2005, but playing sparingly since. He grew up in Gilbert, Ariz., and his father Bruce is a prominent sportscaster for KPNX-TV in Phoenix.

Chris Mortensen says Jay Cutler feels the Broncos are not being honest with him. His feelings were hurt when he found out the Broncos were chasing Matt Cassel and he's in no mood to reconcile right now.

"They want me to come in and talk to 'em but I'm not doing it right now; I'm going to lay low," said Cutler. "The [Broncos] deny everything. That's a problem. We know for a fact they tried to trade me."

The Broncos have denied reports of their trade talks with the Patriots, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Detroit Lions. They have characterized any dialogue as "inquiries" not initiated by the team, even though multiple sources have confirmed the Broncos' interest in Cassel, who was dealt Saturday by the Patriots to the Chiefs.

"He's not the only person in the last few days we've received calls on," new Broncos coach Josh McDaniels told the Denver Post. "We've received trade calls on a number of players, which is not uncommon this time of the year. I also think the sensitivity of the other trade that was occurring, with my relationship with New England and the whole Cassel thing, I think that stirred the pot even more."

McDaniels was the Patriots' offensive coordinator last season when he helped guide Cassel, a career backup since high school, to an 11-5 record following Tom Brady's season-ending knee injury on opening weekend.

Cutler, the 11th overall pick out of Vanderbilt in the 2006 draft, told The Denver Post he was angry that his name even came up in trade talks and said he still feels he's on the trading block -- something McDaniels denies.

"We don't want to trade Jay," McDaniels said. "We never did. He's our quarterback. We're excited about this season. And excited about what we're doing here in free agency to improve our team."

Sources say that the Bucs offered first- and fourth-round picks to the Broncos for Cutler, and that the Lions offered their second-round pick (No. 33) and possibly a future pick. The deal would have involved the Broncos getting Cassel from the Patriots.

Cutler was scheduled to return to Denver this week to continue learning the team's new playbook under McDaniels. A source close to Cutler said that the quarterback is "too stung" by the trade talks and has refused to speak with McDaniels by phone, let alone travel from his Tennessee home back to Denver.

"I'm upset. I mean, I'm really shocked at this point," Cutler told The Post. "I could see why they want Cassel. I don't know if they think I can't run the system or I don't have the skills for it. Or if they don't think they can sign me with my next contract. I just don't know what it is. I've heard I'm still on the trading block."

Team officials were in contact with his agent, Bus Cook, on Saturday and Sunday to deny their involvement and reinforce their commitment to Cutler. Cook said Cutler has every right to be upset.

"Because that's a vote of no confidence in the guy," Cook told The Associated Press on Sunday. "I don't care if you're talking about trading him for Matt Cassel, Matt Ryan or Tom Brady. That's a vote of no confidence in him, and that's how Jay sees it and I would, too.

"I don't know if they were actively seeking to trade Jay, but on the other hand, I don't know that they were turning a deaf ear to potential offers, either."

It was during their call Sunday with Cook that the Broncos tried to schedule a meeting that the quarterback isn't interested in, at the moment.

A Broncos spokesman told The AP on Sunday that neither McDaniels, newly promoted general manager Brian Xanders nor team owner Pat Bowlen would have anything else to say publicly about the matter.

The organization felt it had adequately addressed the issue by talking to The Post and didn't want to perpetuate the story, team spokesman Patrick Smyth said.

Cutler, who has three years left on his six-year deal he signed as a rookie, is by far the best player McDaniels inherited from Mike Shanahan, who had built a terrific young offense around the quarterback even while neglecting a defense that more than anything probably led to his firing.

Cutler told The Post he feels his relationship with McDaniels has "taken a few steps backward."

"I don't know if the relationship is irreconcilably broken," Cook said. "But I know that as much as he's meant to the organization and that ballclub, if there were attempts to trade him, then I think Jay Cutler is 100 percent right to be more than just a little bit miffed."

Cutler is 17-20 with no playoff appearances since supplanting Jake Plummer late in the 2006 season, and he's known for his petulant, moody personality in his dealings with teammates and the media alike.

"There's an awful lot of smoke for there not to be a fire," Cook said. "If they were in fact trying to trade Jay Cutler, then I think that's a situation that's going to cause a very serious problem for the organization.

"If they weren't, maybe he forgives and forgets. But if they were, that's going to be a very difficult situation to repair."
