Sure we have possums and I’ve seen one on our wall, but not for a few years.

I still think my wife picked them and can’t remember doing so!

We had a family of them taking over a tree for an hour or so in Florida - about 8 or more in one go.

They look cute but they're sinister little feckers.

Not quite as frightening as the Alligator that invaded our garage but that's another story.

Indeed, I am all for mutual respect, tolerance and inclusivity. But I am utterly lost as to what they think they will acheive by deleting the dictionary.

Plus being 'instructed' like this just makes people want to do the exact opposite or take the piss.

Gotta love Australia, where 350 miles is just around the corner! (Edit: how annoying that must be :))

jaspercpfc 08-10-2022 03:44 PM

One thing that has annoyed me recently our daughter was invited to a birthday party....great. I asked our daughter, and she said she'd love to go, and then 2 days later were told by the sons Mum it will cost us £19 for her entry/food etc.

I understand times are tough for many at the moment, but the sheer audacity to invite a child to a party and then be told you have to pay for the privilege to attend in addition to purchasing a present is a bloody joke. The cynical part of me wondered how many more people had been invited to the party, just to bulk out the sons present list. You could say "don't go", but by this stage we'd told her she'd been invited so I wasn't prepared to let her down.
I was always told as a child, if you can't afford something you go without, and if I didn't have enough money to pay for our daughter's birthday, we'd simply have a tea party in doors on a budget and make the most of the situation. I'd be embarrassed to do that to others. Maybe I'm just a miserable git.

I just took a look this morning and looks like whoever/whatever took the ripe red ones yesterday came back last night and took the last green tomato.

There is absolutely no evidence left behind, and the tomatoes removed cleanly and without disturbing the plant.

A mystery.

I beat you to it!

I've taken my Blink camera from my front door and set it up facing the 3x tomato plants. It has night vision so should pick up any movement during the night.

As there are no tomatoes left now they may not come back if they are smart enough to know that.

I use my spare ring battery camera as a rat/mouse detector. One downside is that you start to realise quite how many ‘things’ creep around your garden at night :) When the neighbour had a problem with rats I found myself watching for the b****y things all night. Surprisingly stressful. So be warned.

I think I may have moaned about this before but if I want to pay a bill online I have to first log on to the invoice issuing website (user name and password) then via that site log onto my bank website (user name and password). To process the payment I have to use a second bank app to input a 6 digit PIN number, then the bank send me a text message with an 8 digit code that I need to input into the payment page.
So, 2 user names, 2 passwords, a 6 digit PIN number and a one time security code. Now I know stuff like online finances need to be ultra-secure, but really? Is the bank's software that leaky?

Having said that I love my new MacBook Touch ID function that uses my finger-print to autofill all my user names and passwords.

Isle of Wight 10-10-2022 02:16 AM

It’s not that their software is so leaky. Most breaches come from social engineering, as well as hacks, that lead to wrong people accessing your bank account. One of the best I saw with a company I worked for broke into a company with 4 bottles of milk. They went to faceache and found an employee with their id card in a photo. They made a perfect copy but obv with their photo and false name. Of course the card had no chip but when they struggled at the entry system dangling his card from his neck over the reader, the guard simply felt sorry for him saw the card looked good and let him in he then went up each floor with his milk dropping the odd one off at kitchens until he found a laptop un attended but still live popped in a usb drive and 10 seconds later was reading everything that the user subsequently typed. Use name password etc etc. They then got round the rest of the IT system from the info they obtained. The customer was both pissed off and delighted at the same time. They now use 2FA all the time as it would have stopped it in its tracks. They also had a quiet work with the front door teams. 2FA really stops the bad guys a lot along with all the other security stuff. Loads of cases like this but that was my favourite. I used to go to conferences and grab people’s passwords. User name was easy just asked for a business card. I was terrified at ethical hacker conferences as they always broke into my lap top though 100’s of different ways. Touch ID is great though, as it is a bugger to get round.

Wish I could use it on a desktop PC. We had them at work for a while but they seemed to fizzle out. Not sure why… I assume there must be work around for them.

I refuse to give out my voice recognition to the bank or my finger print to apple even though both would make my life easier. We have created an ID system online and given all up for convenience and perceived free products (social media)

I had that happen to me many years ago. They told their insurance company I reversed into them because I had gone over the waiting line at the light. As we both had the same insurance company they suggested I take them to small claims court, which I did.

Judge ruled in favour of them because as the plaintiff I could not prove I didn't reverse into them.

I'm not really annoyed about this, just staggered that it took place:

Florida dads shoot each other's daughters in terrifying road rage incident

Nassau County Sheriff Bill Leeper said during a recent press conference this his agency "received multiple 911 calls with reports of people being shot at" on Highway 1.

William Hale (35), who drove a black Dodge Ram pickup, and Frank Allison (43), who drove a gray Nissan Murano, allegedly got into what one caller described as a "cat and mouse game."

Leeper said both drivers were "speeding" and "driving erratically" while constantly break-checking each other.

Hale, at one point, pulled up next to Allison, whose wife gave him the finger. A water bottle from Hale's vehicle was thrown back in response.

Allison then began firing shots from a handgun, hitting Hale's five-year-old daughter in the leg. Hale shot back with his own handgun, hitting Allison's 14-year-old daughter in the back, leaving her with a collapsed lung.

"Thankfully no one was killed in this incident, but it could have been easily turned out that way, because two people were acting stupid and let their tempers get the best of them," Leeper explained.

"It could have been two dead kids because of two stupid grown men," he added.

If this makes me part of the AGC and if that stands for everything that Liz Truss is against, then I'm happy to announce that we've got about 15 of these little bastards in our cupboard

Was on a treadmill (3 in a row) and some jock decides to get on the one closest to me (I was at one end) and then proceeded to warm up by waving his arms/legs all near my face.
He also stunk.
Prick.

Not really. I have a new Bose Mini Speaker, and when playing via iTunes on my PC I can’t control the volume on the speaker. Seems to be one of those conflict things Apple pull on you.
